Rick Mccallum has said that Lucas has been tinkering with the OT continuously, especially after the SE. Plus the fact that EP I and II have gone mysteriously out of print as of 12/31/2003, I think is further evidence of an upcoming archival edition. The only other positive proof I can think of is that a guy I nkow who manages an indie store cald Box Office Xchange says that he's got two release dates from Lucasfilm. One in september, and one in May 2007

at this point, the only things that really bother me (and I think at least some of you will agree with me) should be changed. specifically-
Episode I-reshoot Bail Organa's scenes with Jimmy smitts and add them back in. add all the deleted scenes back in.
Episode II-add anakin's chace through the rescue party graveyard back into the movie, finish the space battle and add it back into the movie, add back all the deleted scenes.
episode III-whatever deleted scenes apply
episode IV-retouch all the lightsabers, especially in the obi-wan/vader duel, get rid of all the english text and numerals, rearrange the soundtrack (already done), fix CGI Jabba, redub the troopers with Tem Morrison, let Han shoot first, add whatever deleted scenes apply
episode V-smooth out the Walkers and Taun Tauns, refilm Palpatine with Ian Mcdiarmond, rearrange the soundtrack (may already be done) redub Boba and the troopers with Tem Morrison, add the deleted wampa subplot back in, add any deleted scenes that apply, resynch luke's lips and back in the original "your lucky you didn't taste good" line in the artoo gets swallowed scene
Episode VI:redub the troops and Boba with Temura Morrison, fix the rancor, show boba with no helmet at least once (ala infinities-ESB), add all applicable deleted scenes back in, especially vader's confrontation with the red guard, rearrange the music (may already be done ), get rid of the splotches on palpatines head, add the prequal planets to the fireworks show-Naboo, Utapau, Aquilia, Geonosis, Kamino, Kashyyk (and maybe the clone war planets-Illum, Muunilist, Mon Calamari, Dantooine, and Rattatak?), finally, add episode III hayden Christiansen to the ghost scene, Sebastion Shaw looks nothing like Anakin at all, same goes for the death scene-maybe...
There, that's really not much, is it? a lot of it is fixing technical glitches.

Some almost confirmed details for the OT boxset are up at www.darkhorizons.com. Some cool details, but the lack of deleted scenes surprised me since they've been released on CD before...

That pic looks soooo fake. It looks like they took someone in a crap rubber mask and placed it in the scene instead. The original emperor in that scene is so much more intimidating. I hope it's fake, I really do.

I personally could care less about continuity. The original emperor looks cool, and I never knew the difference until I came to these boards. It's one of those nitpicky things, like the english writing in ANH, that you guys like to attack when it's fine how it is.

it will be the SE but it'll include some work that lucas was unable to complete earlier due to Fox rushing him with deadlines. things like the lightsaber glitches and palpatine's spotty head in ROJ should be fixed. some new stuff like the afformentioned emperor could be added as well. and that pick does look real.
in case anyone is wondering, the original emperor was an old woman with chimpanzee eyes superimposed on her with Clive Revell's voice. More creepy if you've had a few hits before the movie.

i read an interview with GL and he said that the SE was the final product, finaly completing them the way he wanted after 25 years, and that there was no need to go back to the original versions. he said that they were old and outdated and the new versions were crisp and clear, thats why he likes them so much.

They posted this on aintitcoolnews.com today. It shows Hayden Christensen inserted in the last scene of the new Return of the Jedi DVD. It looks pretty legit to me, I've never seen a that pic of anakin or one with him wearing those robes. Personally I liked the original/older Anakin better. Arent force ghosts suppose to reappear same age as they died, not 25 years younger? Has George Lucas seriously lost his mind? bleh I mean you don't see a young obi-wan or EP1 Yoda. grrrr . Well discuss

I think it will be emotional to see Anakin as he was before all the Sith stuff took over. Since Kenobi and Yoda never succumbed to it they would appear at the age of their deaths... since they did disappear. Anakin died when he became Vader so he would appear as a young Hayden Christensen... although I think the pic is a fake.

Isn't the whole point that he returns to the "light" side by the time his death occurs? In that case, shouldn't he be the old man as a ghost?

There's been plenty of talk this week about just what will be on those Special Edition DVDs this September from Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox. Will they be the re-released versions of the original films or have there been even more changes?
Our sources tell us that there have been lots of changes to A New Hope, including some tinkering with the Han/Greedo scene. This is also the film with the most significant changes. The Emperor has been replaced with prequel actor Ian McDiarmid in ESB and Hayden Christensen does indeed appear in the final cut of Return of the Jedi. The explanation of his young appearance as a spirit is revealed in Episode III, as (spoiler) the years in the Dark Side don't age the Jedi's spirit form.

I suppose it would make sense to have young anakin. It's his story after all and his redemption would be complete if he came back as a young guy instead of an old duffer.

I'm not sure I get the aging part and the young ghost, because Vader's whole redemption thing is that he dies in the light side, and as such, should die as he was oringally.

I refuse to believe this and even if Lucas follows through with it, I'll continue to disagree with it.

It means that his ghost will be of him as a JEDI, and he was young when he was a Jedi...He also didn't disappear, so that could have something to do with it.

For what it is worth, a very reputable site I go to for DVD info, that has never been known to give out bogus info, posted and commented on this picture and did some of their own research and their source say it is the real deal.... Still undecided on how I feel about this true or not...

this was a link 2 a video of the han and greedo scene that will be shown on the OT DVDs that will be released in september but i had 2 pull it down after only 10 minutes sorry (btw this vid is not yet sure if its real or not but chances are this 1 is pretty reall after endless discusion or some1 has some real spcial effects skills .

wellanyway here is a short descreption of the video :
Greedo still fires first at Han, but it looks like it was fixed considerably. It's just a lot more fluid, and the choppy manner in which they tried to make it look like Han avoided the blast in the SE was fixed. Now Han doesn't even move, Greedo's shot just plain misses.It takes special effects talent to make the simplest things look believable. In my opinion, this was done professionally and, we might be looking at the first footage from the OT DVDs.

i got it from a release group wich i work 2gether with and they got it from a source who found it ona a IRC channel and BTW dont expect 2 see this scene in DVD quality there are during the scene different timecodes showing and this clip is about 20 sec. but please do rember its has not been verified if its real or not and i my self who is following a education at the filmacademy couldnt tell if its real or not i might need 2 take it with me 2 the acedemy 2 do some real close up investegation with the right equipment.

the letters WIP (at the very beginning). Stands for WORK IN PROGRESS,
Therefore it's not the final/finished version. This could make it in the film, could be even better.
The quality is also low because it's a wmv file so it's easy to pirate. The original quality probably wasn't super great either due to it being a workprint. therfore, you can't use quality as a way of proving it's real or fake.but we we still keep investegating in any possible way so please be patience.

Jello, I'm sorry, but most of those things are really really picky. Who cares about the English writing in ANH? The only people who notice that are die-hard Star Wars fans, and it doesn't interrupt the flow of the movie at all. Same with the alternate Emperor. I say, leave the damn things how they are. They're fine, and the price for tinkering often means you end up with crap like the ANH Jabba scene, and Greedo shooting first.

we shudnt really be changing the star wars films again, the first changes made jst improved the viewing pleasure and added a few little things, eg jubba was entered into a new hope but not as his original human form, then there were improvements made to the display etc and making the speeders look like they really were hoovering, wasnt a song added to return of the jedi?

I agree. That's one tough point to beat. Some things are better off being left the way it was, though it wouldn't have bothered me much if they did add Hayden into ROTJ, it's perfectly fine the way it already is.

Here it is:

There's a new scene(shot during Episode III) where Darth Vader goes to Coruscant and lands his ship in the same building Count Dooku does at the end of Attack of the Clones. Except now the building is all fixed up and it is now Palpatine's palace. He meets with Palpatine to ask for forgiveness for his failure and inform him of a new potential who is strong in the Force.

This scene is supposedly going to be inserted into the dvd release of ANH. I know I've stated before that I don't like messing with past works of art, but I have to admit I would like to see this.

What's your opinion?

i am against the tweaking of new scenes in the OT .... we already have the SE that GL decided to tweak back in 97. if that was the case he should have waited til the end of Ep.3 before he decided to re-edit the OT as one big edit. i am a big fan of the OT like every other SW fanatic. i saw two of the OT in the theater and if this is true about the rumors of added scenes i will be pissed off.

i hope this is just that ... a rumor. nothing more nothing less .... but i can see the need to add the scene, seeing as how Palpatine/Sidious is in all the movies except ANH. it would be strange to see him not in an episode seeing as how he is an important character. be also interesting to resolve where Vader went after the Battle at Yavin when his ship went spiraling out of control.

Special Editions, when he re-released them in theaters in 1997, those were the Special Editions. They already had new footage in them, as well, so what's another scene or two?

i have mixed emotions about this. it'd be cool to see, but doing anything else to the OT would probably be detrimental. i do not like the SE changes, especially jabba in ANH, greedo shooting first, and the cg bandmembers in jabba's palace. instead of making a definitive version of SW, they should release the originals on dvd, and then the SE with all these new scenes (if they're real) on seperate dvds (GL could make even more money if he did this). or come up with some cool option on the dvds that lets you pick which additional scenes you want in the film. i don't know if that's possible, but it'd be pretty cool by me.

Those people who whine about preserving the original trilogy. If they want the OT as it was, then go buy it, because Lucas said that those have expired, and do not represent the true movie he wanted to create. So, however unpopular my decision may be, I say go with the director's vision, and if adding another scene in 2004 is part of this vision, sobeit.

this is a rather long post and not about ep3, but for those of you who haven't seen them, this is where the rumor comes from, and all of the other OT dvd rumors. (i think most, if not all are bogus, except for ian mcdirmiad as the emperor in ESB.)

Directly from the rumor mill Ain't it cool news, here are changes that lucas intend to make to the DVD versions coming in sept. 2004

Episode IV: A New Hope

01. The Imperial March has been added to Darth Vader's first appearance on Princess Leia's ship.
02. When Obi-Wan is talking to Luke about his father Anakin's Theme plays in the background and then it turns into the Imperial March as he talks about Vader.
03. The lightsaber effects have been redone and the frame jumps of lightsabers being turned on has been removed.
04. There's a new scene which has been shot during the filming of Episode III in which the Emperor dissolves the Senate.
05. In the Cantina, the Duros(green aliens guys) have been replaced with Neimoidians and some aliens from the prequels have been added.
06. The bleeding arm on the floor in the Cantina has been replaced with a non-bleeding arm because it's now canon that lightsabers cauterize wounds.
07. The original shooting scene between Han and Greedo has been restored.
08. Jabba the Hutt has been given a makeover and Han no longer steps on his tale.
09. In place of R2 wobbling down the stairs to the Falcon's hangar, a CG R2 navigating the stairs like he does in Attack of the Clones was added.
10. The white boxes around space ships have been removed and new CG shots have been added.
11. The scene of the Falcon being chased by the two Star Destroyers was modified. The Falcon now does spinning moves, avoiding the Star Destroyers' fire.
12. When the Death Star destroys Alderaan there's a new scene of Yoda's reaction to the disturbance in the Force that is created by all those deaths and then it cuts to Obi-Wan reacting to it as well.
13. The Dianoga has gotten a CG makeover and were are now able to see more of the creature.
14. The Death Star's paneling and computers have been slightly altered to show similar displays to those in the prequels.
15. The words "Tractor Beam" with Aurebesh lettering.
16. More stormtroopers have been added to the Death Star.
17. Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for use with all the stormtroopers.
18. The Obi-Wan/Vader duel has been spruced up. It is much more epic and there is much more movement. A modified version of Duel of the Fates is being considered for the scene.
19. The Death Star plans that are taken from R2 have been updated. When the Rebels are reviewing the Death Star plans they look similar to the plans we see in Attack of the Clones.
20. The Death Star battle is much more epic with more Tie Fighters and more Rebels being blown to bits. We get to see old Naboo starfighters being used by the Rebels.
21. There's a new scene(shot during Episode III) where Darth Vader goes to Coruscant and lands his ship in the same building Count Dooku does at the end of Attack of the Clones. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

01. The taun-tauns are now CG.
02. The battle of Hoth is much more epic. We see the Imperial ships land on Hoth and release AT-ATs. The AT-ATs have been sped up a bit. There's a ground battle between the Rebel soldiers and stormtroopers featuring new ships and vehicles.
03. Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for the older Boba Fett and all the stormtroopers.
04. The white boxes around space ships have been removed.

06. Ian McDiarmid has refilmed scenes as the Emperor. The conversations between Vader and Palpatine is now longer and features a few connections to the prequels.
07. Yoda's face is now animated in CG allowing more _expression of emotions yet his movements remain the same. Also two deleted scenes featuring Yoda instructing Luke have been restored.
08. A new scene was shot in which the stormtroopers, after they capture Han, Leia and Chewie, bring Vader the box containing C-3PO in pieces. Vader orders the stormtroopers to bring the broken droid to Chewbacca's cell so that he can fix him.
09. The lightsaber effects have been redone in certain parts.
10. Luke's fall from Cloud City has been reshot against bluescreen using a stuntman.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

01. Jabba the Hutt is now a combination of the puppet and CG.
02. The Rancor is CG and looks disgusting as ever.
03. Yoda is CG. Yoda disappears leaving his clothes behind like Obi-Wan now.
04. The ewoks are now mostly CG and there are a lot more of them.
05. The plan is to insert the love theme Across the Stars when Luke is talking with Leia about their mother.
06. Temuera Morrison's like before is now the voice for Boba Fett and all the stormtroopers.
07. In the battle of Endor there are thousands of Ewoks and they are more vicious than there midgets-in-suits counterparts. More bite the dust now.
08. White boxes around ships removed.
09. The black blotches around Palpatine's face are gone.
10. Some of the lightsaber effects have been redone. The shadows that the lightsabers made on the floor are gone.
11. During Anakin's death scene it starts with a sad rendition of the Imperial March and slowly evolves into Anakin's Theme.
12. Sebastion Shaw who played Anakin when he was unmasked has been replaced with Hayden Christenson in make-up to make him look older. Anakin has much more dialogue. He apologizes for the destruction he caused, he thanks his son for turning him back to the light, he tells his son to rebuild the Jedi and he says he loves him and his sister. Just before he dies he says, "It is finished...".
13. We see more planets celebrating at the end of the movie. We see an aged Jar Jar, who is now the leader of the Gungans, on Naboo celebrating with the people of Naboo and the Gungans. We see an old Watto, who is now unable to fly, sitting in a hover chair cheering on Tatooine. During these scenes Across the Stars plays transitioning to the victory celebration music at the Ewok tree village.
14. Anakin's spirit is now played by Hayden Christenson with make-up to make him look his age. He looks on proudly at his son Luke with the spirit of Padme by his side

yep because he did not have the tchnologie in 77 to do al kind of maragorounds you know so now in 04 he can.its better to know the whole story that way

i will admit that it's tempting to want to see certain things happen, like the imperials dropping off the ATATs on hoth would be pretty cool. but they're just rumors. and certain things i totally disagree with, like making jabba part digital in ROTJ or parts of yoda's face digital. i guess i just don't understand why they'd want to do that. frank oz is such a master puppeteer, nothing needs to be changed about the OT yoda!
