I just wonder if Star Wars will continue to have ther longevity it had after ROTJ.

I know that LFL, along with Dark horse, Hasbro/Kenner and Batham Books, kept things alive but they always had the prospect of new films at some point.

As George Lucas has publically stated that he will NOT be making anything after Episode-III, do you think it will gracefully die off or will they try to keep it alive?

Star Wars is obviously a special case in this matter. Even James Bond, which I believe is the only movie series that will have a longer string of sequels than Star Wars, can't really be included as they are not one story.

Dim
I think it will go on to be something like the Wizard of Oz, a classic that people will always like and of course there will be some marketing for that.

When you consider that movie making has only artistically existed for less then a century I think we will see SW be included by art/film historians as a work that had huge cultural impact and ramifications, so it will always be around in some form or another..
It's like when you see a 14th century painting of the Madonna done in Egg tempera...you can understand it's place and how it contributed...
I can imagine film being looked at very much the same way as more traditional arts..

Ratcat
But will SW have the longevity it takes to be a part of that history? Probably, it has already made a number of landmarks I guess.

theEviljedi
I agree with Dim.

Ratcat
OK, explain what she said then.

theEviljedi
About being similiar to The Wizard Of Oz,etc.,etc.

Ratcat
Oh my yes, the cultural impact of the Wizard of Oz, it's ruined several of my Christmas's in the past!!!

theEviljedi
Why's that?

Ratcat
Well I don't know about you guys iin the US, but over here in the UK they show that movie EVERY Christmas, it's got to the point where it's considered a joke.

Q. How do the Jehovahs Witnesses know when it's Christmas?
A. Because The Wizard of Oz is on.

King Jedi
Yip, it's the Wizard of OZ followed by The Great Escape and then the best British movie of all time Zulu!

theEviljedi
Here it's always Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase and It's a Wonderful Life with James S.

Ratcat
That's a UK Easter!!!!

King Jedi
And don't forget the Italian Job. Every holiday it's on.

Dim

And it's even worse in French!!!!

theEviljedi

Dim
wouldn't it be funny if they could speed it up and the puppets sang it really fast...Actually I think that would scare me...

I've never been to Disney World...sad

theEviljedi
Yeah like chucky.

Ratcat
Yeah, at Disneyland Paris they sing it in French.

theEviljedi
Oh in Paris.

Dim
I wonder how different it is to Orlando and Anaheim...

Ratcat
Apart from the language and weather differneces the Park in Paris is very much like Orlando. I've never been over to the west coast so I don't know about that one.

Dim
RC, did you ever go to Disney World as a kid?

Ratcat
I went on 1990 when I was 22, then in 98,99 and now this year.

Dim
hmmm... man..you are old big grin j/k

Ratcat
Hey, it's all down hill from 30 sweety. Actually, on a serious note I have a better feeling about being 32 that I did about being 30 or 31.

I just hope I can make 100 like most of my family have in the last 3 generations, at least I'll have something to look forward to. smile

Dim
oh man...I really hope I don't turn out like my family...all the women break their hips and my 95 yr old grandma once asked me to get her an egg off of a tree so she could eat it.(it was those plastic easter eggs they like to hang from trees for easter...they even had a big inflatable pink bunny sitting underneath it..mind you this is in a alzhiemers care home...so much for helping the residents keep grasp on reality)

theEviljedi
I've only been to Disney World once when I was 7sad

Ratcat
Well we have a spoilt brat here, he's on his 3rd trip to WDW pm Friday and he's 4!!!

But honest, we only go for him. smile

Dim
Good enough reason...you have to post of picture when you get back smile

Ratcat
I'll be posting loads somewhere. I'll do some from Star Tours and the surrounding area for my Ep-2 site but I'll also have a load of others, don't know where the'll go yet though.

Great Master Brit Hunt
Star Wars will exist as long as we talk about it.
