'Ello, long time no see. Haven't posted here in ages, thought I'd try something out. (And fail).
Anyway, the point of this thread is to try and find something new to gauge the power of certain characters against others. I don't know how it'll turn out, but just trying to bring something new here....
Ok, so let's say we have NJO Luke Skywalker as an example.
Now, he's a very powerful Star Wars character. To some he's the top dog at this point, to others, he's merely on his way to reach his prime. (LOTF right?)
So, I guess most people would agree that as far as pure raw power comes, there's no one who can really stand up to Skywalker, even at this point. (Save possibly someone)
But as we all know that is not enough to gauge the victory of Skywalker. No, there are lots of other things to take into account before we decide the victor.
With that said, let's use Luke Skywalker by NJO as the first fighter. He'll fight 5 others, who I've picked out because of reasons that should emphasis these "other" conditions, not just power and speed alone.
1. Caedus.
2. Darth Sidious.
3. Darth Tyrannus.
4. Darth Revan.
5. Lumiya.
As you'll probably notice here, a lot of them have some kind of relationship with Luke. That's one of the things to take into consideration here, different kinds of relationships.
Darth Sidious is kinda the opposite of Skywalker, and thus, he's pretty much his worst enemy. Skywalker would probably have a lot of emotions to draw on for better or for worse when fighting Sidious, and seeing Sidious' manipulative nature, he'd probably take advantage of it.
Also, Sidious, with a pretty much wider knowledge than anyone in Star Wars as of the time of DE (and probably ROTJ as well, ROTS questionable, but still wide), compared to Skywalkers somewhat limited knowledge of the old as far as techniques and saber styles go (not sure, but didn't he make out new forms from scratch after establishing his Academy?) would probably be unfamiliar with a lot of them, thus making Sidious to be a somewhat unpredictable opponent to Skywalker in what he can throw out.
Luke is, however, the stronger fighter. Probably faster, certainly stronger, most likely the better saber fighter (taking the others things into account, not skill), but still loses pretty much in the tactical front.
Judging by that, I'd say that Skywalker, even though stronger than Sidious, would be at a disadvantage fighting any match that has Sidious in it, because of Sidious' mental edge and tactical advantages.
Not necessarily would I give Sidious more wins out of 10, but I'd give him an advantage over Skywalker compared to Skywalker having advantage over him.
Hope you got any of that. (Unlikely) Have fun trying to figure out the possible advantages n' stuff. Bah!
