Star Wars Stupidity

truejedi
The moments in Star Wars that you feel are absolutely the most ludicrous, and the most stupid. Couple to start with:
1. Mace riding around on a couple of droid fighter ships with their cords held like a bridle.
2. Anakin yelling "Now that's podracing!"
3. Flow-walking. All of it.
Red Nemesis
Jacen being a "total master of the Force."
Also, Jar Jar.
Dr McBeefington
I'd go with Jacen magically obtaining advanced battle awareness as soon as he chose his sith name. Also the whole master of the force thing and his destiny to be a sith. Nonsense.
Also, George Lucas.
truejedi
How about Ahsoka calling the droids "tinnys?"
Or Ahsoka going head to head with Grievous and surviving?
Dr McBeefington
I don't watch Star Wars cartoons. Ahsoka is the hot minor half human right?
truejedi
I thought she was Anakin's Padawan?
KingD19
Yeah, she's hot, but not half human, she's a Togruta, like Shaak Ti.
How bout in the claymation cartoon, Obi-Wan was chasing this Mandalorian assassin, the guy backs off a building, and instead of using the Force to catch him, Obi lets the guy fall.

that is one of the three episodes of that series that I have seen.
The whole thing should probably go into this thread.

Speaking of Mandos, how about Jaina going to train with Boba Fett?

Anakin calling Padme an angel from the moons of Iego. WTF?

Oh yes, and their entire bedroom scene in ROTS.

Bane's orbalisks. This isn't exactly what I meant with the thread though. I was thinking the kind of moments that just make you cringe, and kinda become a little ashamed to be a star wars fan.
Ludicrous. (Such as mace riding droids like skis)
Comic book moments. or characters. Such as Durge. Durge is a comic book character. (at least he is in the CWC with Kenobi, when he just won't die.)

The Legacy Comics. That includes the idiotic way Krayt became emperor, the return of the sith, and Cade's "chosen one" powers that he randomly activates and kicks everyone's ass.
BruceSkywalker
jar jar...
jacen being built up so strong and so fast,, which they never should have done..
darth maul should have had more screen time and more fight scenes
i love the legacy comics, but yeah Krayt should have been done better... agree on cade too

How Padme....lost the will to live, so she died.

Jar Jar.
Podracing.
Crystal Star.
Bane novels.
KotOR 2.
The Clone Wars CGI franchise.
Ewoks.
RotJ Leia.
Dark Empire.
Time travel.
Gods who can manipulate space and matter.
Tatooine.
That's it I think.

This right here is my trump card...
Zero the Hutt
WTF were they thinking?!
Darth Truculent
One thing and one thing only - Padme never aged. Did they get that idea from Highlander or something?
Rest is trivial.
Galan007
Padme dying from an easily recoverable situation just because she 'lost the will to live' or some nonsense.
"My hubby turned to the dark side, so I don't want to live anymore..... Screw watching my children grow up."
Utter fail. srsly
Nephthys
Amen.
Also, Lucas ruining the coolest thing in Star Wars: General Grievous in rots, which just paved the way for the the continual Villian decay ever since.

So very true.
Notice how 90% of the "stupidity" is in the PT?
Ms.Marvel
its cause the pt's less cliche.
ot's got plenty of dumb shit, its just that its been discussed to death already in the last 30 years lol

OT crap: How about the musical interlude in ROTJ? What was that?
And the ewoks turning into a real fighting force.
And Luke's "I used to shoot wamp-rats no bigger than that back home."

I don't count the musical number in ROTJ, that was SE. That's not the true version of Star Wars.
The Ewoks would have been much more believable if they didn't look like cuddly teddy bears.
What was wrong with the wamp-rats line?
truejedi
just really cheesy.
Kinda like the stormtroopers never hitting anything in the entire trilogy. They might not of even had real blasters for all we know.
Galan007
Obi killing Grievous with a blaster was pretty fail too.
Autokrat
There are four awesome scenes in all of the SW movies.
1. Luke in the cave, the only scene that contains a worthwhile line from Yoda. "Only what you take with you." That was the best line in all of ESB.
2. Vader's reveal at the end of ESB. Talk about major mindscrew for Luke.
3. Anakin's march on the Jedi Temple with the clones combined with the autocratic music in the background, f*cking menacing.
4. The Anakin/Sidious opera scene. The music, Sidious doing his chessmaster thing, moving the pieces into place. Chilling.
The rest belongs in this thread.

I like the thought of Obi-Wan killing him with a blaster, but the execution of the scene sucked ass.
Nephthys
I'd say the scenes on the Death Star in ROTJ also count. Lots of emotion, a great fight scene (yeah it was sloppy, but had tons of emotional weight in it, unlike the PT's plastic feel) and the guy who played the Emperor really f'king nailed it. Stole the movie.

Agreed completley. Except about the fight scene being sloppy. I prefered the saberfighting in the OT over the PT. Seems far more natural and powerful.

While I personally don't like Obi utilizing a blaster offensively, it wasn't a fail moment for him so much as it was for Grievous. I mean first they have Obi utterly embarrass GG in a saber battle (within seconds) -- then they enter a pointless 'time filler chase scene' -- and finally Obi summons a nearby blaster and kills GG with a few well placed zaps to the chest.
All in all it was a less than mediocre end to a villain who'd been previously established as a sheer badass. Granted GG had the smoker's lung working against him, but none the less, Lucas could have done MUCH better with that whole scene. /shrug

The part I really didn't understand, why was fire bursting out of his eyes after being shot with a blaster? From everything we've seen in the past, a blaster will burn right through you, not cause your flesh to be combustive.
truejedi
I loved the "so uncivilized" line from Kenobi after the kill though. According to ROTS novelization, he is talking about the blaster, not about grievous, and that made it cool.
S_W_LeGenD
Some of the biggest blunders are:
1. The death of Padme (She lost the WILL to live) WTF?
It would have made more sense if Force Choke was to be blamed.
2. Ewoks managing to battle the superior forces of the Empire
And an absolutely terrible Alien race to begin with.
3. The invinciblization of Luke Skywalker
He was a great character in OT but after that an overpowered pile of shit with personality flaws. I hate over-powering of hero characters like this.
4. Jarael
The worst character ever introduced in Star Wars mythos. The Gary Stu of KOTOR. In later stages of her life, she even wields the lightsaber of Exar Kun - OMG!
5. The disappearance of Revan in to the unknown Worlds and never heard of since?
Thanks to Obsidian for ruining Revan's story. We now officially have an unsatisfactory conclusion to the story of one of the greatest characters in Star Wars Saga.
6. The Jedi Exile
No pun intended to her fans but I believe her to be one of the worst and most useless characters of KOTOR times. She beats 3 Sith Lords and than vanishes? (Another example which shows that how Obsidian ruined KOTOR.)

I knew he was talking about the blaster well before reading the novel...he looked at the blaster as he was throwing it away. It's a call back to ANH when he says lightsabers are a weapon from a more civilized age.

Yea, she briefly holds Exar Kun's saber. For one fight, during which it's revealed she has no force abilities whatsoever and several characters were just fooling themselves into thinking she's oh-so-special. A pretty badass fighter for conventional reasons, but nothing like they though. She doesn't get to keep the saber.

The fact that any R2 unit can interpret the entire Imperial network and use that oversized robotic fallace to shut down whatever the hell they feel like, always struck me as a bit ridiculous. I mean doesn't it seem odd that the Empire would protect a multi-billion credit investment like the Death Star with a terrestrial deflector shield generator, yet any random jerk with an R2 unit can still open the door, and stroll in to blow it up?
truejedi
very true. Given enough time, R2 can open, disable, or reverse absolutely anything. That makes no sense whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure there are a LOT of canonical sources stating that Freedon Nadd destroyed Sadow's spirit. Apparently, the writers for SWTOR continue ignoring continuity. I'm also if Sadow's tomb and Kun's spirits were in different temples. Anyways, lots of questions.

Here's some stupidity from the Clone Wars cartoon (new one) and how it contradicts the OT.
We all know they STUPIDLY gave R2 those jets so he could fly around (why?), and he never uses them again after Episode 3.
I was watching the Clone Wars the other day and at one point R2 has Anakin sitting on him and they fly up high and around for quite a long time.
If R2 were to have those jets, I would prefer them to let him hover for small distances, he can't possibly have enough fuel to fly up high and all over the place while carrying a load the size of the average human male.
mattatom
For the fisrt point Lance it's likely he got stripped from the specialist R2 unit he was to a generic one between 3 and 4. The other two points I agree with you on

They all imply that his spirit was destroyed because he was in suspended animation for 600 years.

Stupidest SW moment?
"Greedo shot first because I didn't want to make Han a cold-blooded thug."
How does shooting in SELF-DEFENCE make you a "cold-blooded thug?" Greedo was pointing a gun at him and flat-out said he was going to kill him. Letting Greedo shoot first is just stupid and raises the question; if Han is that slow off the mark, how had he survived that long?
And even if Greedo was a rookie, missing at that range is just ridiculous.
That's why I take everything Lucas says with a pinch of salt.
Also, in the PT, the Jedi's view on "romance." Right, so being in love (the most unselfish feeling of all) makes you evil, but one-night stands where you indulge selfish passions without giving a ***** about the other person are good? (Although to be fair, that view was shown to be wrong as it led to the PT Jedi's downfall).

Maybe Jedi viewed sex as something to enjoy, kinda like enjoying a favorite meal (lol). I mean really though, how is having sex selfish? One-night stand is just two people having some pleasure and some enjoyment which eachother. I don't see why a jedi should not have some time to enjoy things in life.
I actually agree with the jedi's policies about attachement and falling in love. Most of the time when you are deeply in love with someone you would risk anything for that person. You would save the one you love before saving a thousand people who you do not even know. I see why jedi are against attachment. It is too much a risk.
Nephthys
Possibly the Order wanted jedi to pass on the jedi gene (or whatever), but didn't want to risk love and family so they just said that they could have sex. Plus there might be certain species who have very active sex drives, making it harder to be celibate.
