Anime adaptation of the manga. Haven't read the manga, but I'm liking the show. For those interested and whatever

I like the fighting and the incorporation of the manga. From what I understand it seems to so far be VERY close to the manga.

Ah yeah.....This manga was nuts. The author literally does not care who your favorite character is. No one is safe. Akame is pretty legit, she's probably my favorite character. Her or the main female antagonist with the ice powers.
NemeBro
Just watched the first episode of this show.
I can't recall a more lulzily tryhard anime or manga I've observed since Elfen Lied. Pretty dumb fun, but not sure if I care enough to follow the series.
NemeBro
What about it do you love!?
KingD19
Aside from Leone's carefree attitude and her insistence that she will f*ck Tatsumi at some point...I think I love how easily death comes to everybody.
SSJGGogeta
I agree with Nemebro on this one.
It's overrated too. My roommate won't shut up about this dreck, and it drives me crazy. It tries way to hard to one-up series like Elfen Lied, or even Attack on Titan.
I've only watched a couple episodes though, so I'm still not really sure how I feel about it.
BloodRain
Is this worth checking out though?

I've caught up with the manga and I've seen the first six episodes so far. I enjoy both and I'm glad Yen Press has licensed the manga. Not sure why it's being heavily compared to Elfen Lied. Aside from the violence, they are worlds apart.
AgK has a more basic shounen manga feel to it while Elfen Lied is a seinen manga (Not one of the better ones, IMO. I prefer Battle Angel Alita, Berserk, and Eden It's An Endless World!).
Despite the reputation it has for killing off characters, the body count isn't that high. Atleast the ones who have died so far get a fair amount of development unlike in Terra Formars where you barely get to know the cast before their heads are separated from their torsos.
NemeBro
I compare it to Elfen Lied because both seem to have that super edgy tryhard feel to them (As opposed to a series like Berserk, Vinland Saga, Neon Genesis Evangelion, or for a fellow Shonen series Attack on Titan, where the darkness of the setting is portrayed very seriously and the really ****ed up parts are used relatively sparingly).
I mean, in the first episode (So like, spoilers I guess but who didn't see this coming?) there's a teenage girl who tricks homeless people into coming into their home by acting as a kind-hearted good-samaritan. Only she actually just wants to torture the shit out of them and eventually kill them (Her family is of course in on it too). Okay, fair enough, but then she has an incredibly over the top rant about how country people are farm animals and about how she tortured some girl as long as she could because her hair was nicer than hers or something despite being a hick.
I mean really:

Can anyone here say they could take this scene seriously? I still laugh while thinking about it, and I'm not sure if it was meant to be funny.
I mean, I wouldn't say it's truly awful. The animation and art style are actually pretty nice, for example, and there's a certain narm charm that made it easy to watch (Even if the protagonist is the most generic piece of shit in history). I'll also be fair and say that there wasn't a moment as jarring as some of Elfen Lied's (Namely the ****ing puppy song, lol), and if people like it then hey, that's fine. There are certainly worse shows out there, and if someone thinks it might be worth a look (like BloodRain up there) then go ahead. But personally? The first episode wasn't enthralling enough to convince me to follow the series.
NemeBro
I'll be nice and say another good thing. It's surprisingly funny at times.
"You're not a target. There's no need to kill you."
"But you plan to kill this girl!?"
"Yep."
"... Yep!?"
Legitimately lol'd.
Nephthys
Berserk is pretty edgy. I mean the first scene is the man character banging a demon that he then kills. Juxtaposing sex and murder is supa edgy.
NemeBro
Sure, and the first three volumes are also not really all that great and that's one of the biggest examples of early installment weirdness in anime (Though I like to pretend Guts did this to intentionally be ironic, being that that is the succubus apostle who killed Corkus).
Also, I feel like a difference should be established between "edgy tryhard" and just "edgy". There's nothing wrong with a work being "edgy" in of itself, as I'm sure you'd agree; after all, you are a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire. There's nothing wrong with a messed up show.
But shows like Elfen Lied and seemingly Akame Ga Kill aren't messed up shows because they try so hard to be one.
RaventheOnly
It reminds me of the mood of Future Diary in terms of you know you are going to lose some people and its just a matter of time but along the way there is still a bit of humor but everyone is freaking psycho, even the characters you like you like them because they are psycho. Yet you understand why they are psycho on a realistic level.
NemeBro
A comparison to Future Diary isn't very flattering.
Nephthys
Yuno is mai waifu.
NemeBro
Yuno might be the only character worth a shit in that series from what I've seen though.
Similarly Akame is the only character I really find interesting in this show (So far).
Nephthys
.... Yeah, she kinda is. mmm
But she's such a badass that you watch it just for her. **** all the other characters.
NemeBro
If a series has to pull you through on the back of one character alone it's not worth your time.
RaventheOnly
HEY Minene Uryū is awesomesauce to >.> Yuno and her are holding the whole ship up!

Nephthys
I never got passed how the show treats Minene as a good guy immediately after she tries to blow up a school with no change in between other than losing an eye. And how every character shrugs and is like "Sure, she killed children but you know she's not sorry about it and hasn't done anything to redeem herself so obviously she's got our backs."
Like.... no. She's not a wacky anti-hero, she's a ****ing monster. Treat her like it.
NemeBro
Isn't Yuno a monster though?
RaventheOnly
The only legitimately marginal not monster character in the whole anime is the blind guy and maybe Yuki lol

NemeBro
Funny, I've heard Yuki is the single most deplorable piece of shit in the manga.
RaventheOnly
His dilemma is to exist, and fears above all else to cease to exist so he twists others to continue; while everyone else is to trample others who are the sources of their problems out of revenge or joy. In the end when he attains power he seeks to undo what was done. That is why I said maybe hehe

Yes, and the show treats her like it and doesn't gloss over the fact that she's completely insane. Minene blows up a school and is a terrorist yet still gets treated as a good person.

You forgot that woman with the freakishly large head. And Detective Yaoi.
AuraAngel
Minene> Yuki and Yuno.

I haven't read/watched Future Diary so I can't comment on it. Let's get back to Akame Ga Kiru!, shall we?
Just caught up watching the episodes. Since I've read the manga, I know what's coming but the faithfulness to the manga keeps me enjoying it.
One thing that drew me to this series is that the art style makes me recall Needless at times. The character designs for both mangas have a razor sharp feel to them and they both have fights that emit sympathy pain like crazy.
NemeBro
I'll go ahead and admit that this show has become a guilty pleasure for me.
Sheele...

RaventheOnly
/cry

I hope he kills her and that dog with her imperial arms

KingD19
Hehehehee. Just wait.
NemeBro
This is bullshit. ****ing Bulat died. I want to ****ing kill myself.
KingD19
How else would Tatsumi get Incursio?
RaventheOnly

Ohhh sweeeeeet revenge please :3
NemeBro
Not really. Now that my two favorites are gone (With only Akame rivaling them) I am entirely jaded.
Zack Fair
Anyone know the name of the song/beat that plays during the fight between Akame and the Fire guy from Esdeath's team? It is from episode 6 and it plays during the middle of the episode when Akame dodges his flame thrower at point blank range. I MUST HAVE IT AS RING TONE.
RaventheOnly
I broke down and read the manga. I seriously question my hatred of so many people on the bad guy side now

The only legitimate bad guys are the new comers and the minister guy

NemeBro
Uh, Esdeath is the minister's best buddy and outright condones the people's suffering, and sexually gets off on torture. She's a bad guy.

RaventheOnly
She does not really like the Minister in the manga wise and there is a serious conflict between them especially around Bol's death. She is really flawed but she is likable as the story progresses.
NemeBro
She is easily the most likable character in the series.
She's also a monster.
KingD19
While Esdeath does condone the suffering, her reasoning is different. It was drilled into her from birth that the strong thrive and the weak are crushed under foot; if you die you just weren't strong enough. Her dad said that to her as he lay dying. So while the Minister just wants power and is corrupt to the core. Esdeath is extremely ruthless.
Also it's true they don't like each other at all. She puts up with him mainly, but he pisses her off. At one point I think she said she was planning on killing him.
Zack Fair
So no one knows the name of the song/beat =\
KingD19
Bols wasn't introduced until episode 9.
Zack Fair
Well I meant episode 16. *shrug*
Anyways I'll wander youtube. Someone you have the answer there.
KingD19
There's not a lot of info to go on. I'll try and look too but don't get your hopes up.
vansonbee
Really, enjoying the series so far, currently on episode 6. My favorite character has to be Seryuu. Her mistaken outlook of justice, is pure creepy and one of the many reasons why she is so enticing. :3
Now about the passing of the imperial arm, from the bro to the main protagonist, felted forced, anyone else thought the same?
Glad the sadist kid was taken care of, man that guy was crazy! The skinning part reminds me of "Ghost in the Shell".
ares834
Well that was unexpected.
KingD19
What the f*ck? The anime has diverged so damn far from the manga it's unrecognizable. I guess they had a lot less episodes they did some creative restructuring.
NemeBro
Not necessarily. Keep in mind the manga is still only on episode 21's events.
The biggest change is the removal of the entire Wild Hunt arc and the changes brought on by that decision.
RaventheOnly
It feels sooo rushed
It was going so well then it went 10x speed and jump over everything. There seems to be so much unpolished smashing together of fights with no explanations in the anime version I feel sad.

The manga drew out everything so well and you really felt for both sides

Esomark
I didn't think the anime's ending was bad. Despite condensing plot elements from the manga, Akame's duel with Esdeath was well done and it was satisfying to see Leone literally beat the minister's face in. That character was just so rotten that he made even the viewer want to punch his face in.
The manga itself is drawing towards a climax so it'll be interesting to see if the ending to it will be like the anime's or different from it. I personally hope Leone and Mine will live but the AgK universe doesn't care who lives or dies.
wakkawakkawakka
Well I just got finished watching this entire anime and I have to say I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I found it particularly funny how the ending just sped through everything to reach the conclusion.
ares834
I thought it was very subpar. But then I don't confuse darkness and gore with depth.

wakkawakkawakka
Oh yeah it was definitely a subpar anime. Nonetheless I still found some enjoyment in it: it helps that it was only 24 episodes.
Esomark
I found it to be a good snack muncher. If you approach it from that angle, you won't be disappointed.
The manga is certainly more fulfilling, though. I actually look more forward to new chapters of it than I do with One Piece, Bleach, Fairy Tail, and Toriko these days.
