Why is choking Kam impressive? Luke himself didn't even know how to defend against it, it seems more like he wasn't able to defend it because he didn't know how.

Luke did know how to defend himself against it, hence why he did defend himself and Kam. Solusar should've been able to at least try and resist it, but he couldn't without Luke aiding him.

And Kam, two years later, would go on to throw large stones hard enough to crush TIE-fighters, IIRC. Sure, there's a power-growth there, but nothing to suggest vast improvement, tbh.

Well I mean before Luke didn't seem to know, until he got the holocron. But I guess so.
