aside from maybe a few exceptions, it seems like every major event over the last several years has been complete trash.

i'm talking about events so good that you literally couldn't wait for the next issue to be released.

Thought there was a bit of fatigue with Bats who Laughs, I enjoyed Metal and Death Metal too, just a wild ride. But I also wasnt waiting for the next issue with pure excitement.

The last one of those for me was probably Convergence, which ended up a bit disjointed and fairly mid because of the climax at the end, but I think I think its also a bit of an underrated event if you followed the main JLA and Earth 2 books, and then all the tie-ins, but for a casual it was a bit overwhelming.

The last one that I was super pumped about and actually delivered was either Flashpoint or Blackest Night. Blackest Night was also riding off the back of Sinestro Corp War, so hype was peaked for a good stretch on Johns run.

Honestly?

Missing The Walking Dead comic.

The superhero genre is fun, but it always goes back to the old status quo and nobody stays dead.

The last major DC/Marvel events that I genuinely couldn't wait to read from start to finish were probably SCW and Annihilation.

Don't get me wrong, there have certainly been some good/great events since those, but I just didn't have the same level of excitement for them.

death metal and convergence was hated by most. i personally dont mind them. the good thing is they did expand a bit on the dc cosmology. but at the same time they are not good writing

I enjoyed metal, only because i love the design of all the dark knights, dawnbreaker and red death are dope, those origin books are the ones i read it multiple times

flashpoint as an event wasn't bad, and it did give us n52, but the whole thing left sour taste in my mouth because that reboot was so unecessary. after that dc took years to correct the reboot mistake because they dont even know what they are doing. which left us with the mess we are currently seeing now

blackest knight was the event that got me interested in comic book and it was during the days johns can still write a story or two

Night, not Knight... don't tell me you have a crush on carver.

Same. It's been largely downhill from there.

Sure, there are moments of goodness, but on the whole? No event in a while has been particularly great.

Basically this. Can't think of any others, most of the ones I've read since then were garbage and a few were okay.

SCW might be the greatest event I've ever read. DC animating everything accept Rebirth, SCW and blackest night is a travesty lol

Thinkerer
Blackest Night - DC
Annihilation Conquest - Marvel

its too much of an animation for them to do

blackest night and scw both have the same problem

too many characters, too big of a worldview and too big of fight scenes.

they want to go with something simpler

sad but it is what it is

Yeah...something simple like killing off their universe for the boring af "Tomorrowverse"...

Sinestro Corps War is basically the greatest Green Lantern storyline ever.

Annihilation is basically the greatest Marvel Cosmic storyline ever.

Maybe we should lower our expectations? Hard to rise to all-time greatest stories.

For me, I liked Trinity War, Doomsday Clock, Batman: Endgame and Thanos Imperative, Avengers vs. X-Men, and A.X.E. Judgment Day.

Doomsday Clock was the best. They didn't try to milk tie-ins and it was pretty self-contained. Also we got this:

vin There was another JLD one right after the Trinity War called Blight, which was a really good event contained in the JLD books - Phantom Stranger/JLD/Constantine/Pandora. It was excellent.

Honorable mentions for me would probably be things like Blackest Night, Final Crisis, Multiversity, Doomsday Clock, and Hickman's Secret Wars(along with all the build-up leading up to that.)

And Pak World War Hulk

HoX/PoX is the last thing that got me truly hyped for mainstream comics

Slott also penned some fun Spider-Man events. Spider Island was great to pick up and read.

What was the Hunger Games/Most Dangerous Game sorta event where Arcade had a bunch of C listers grouped together on a booby-trapped island? That was fun too.

Those four Countdown titles were amazing. Sacrifice was pretty good too. And then the finale, Infinite Crisis, itself was definitely satisfying but... just good. The lead-up was great. Hasn't been matched since, IMHO. Before Countdown, I didn't know crap about Blue Beetle or Catman or Maxwell Lord or Adam Strange or Ragman but after? I was hooked.

I felt similar with Time Runs Out. In a different way because I knew all those characters well... and then seeing them have to struggle with the impossible choice was so compelling. And likewise, the finale of Secret Wars was just good... but not great like the lead-up. The way it just methodically tore down the members of the Illuminati was sick.

Probably will never see its like again.
