Franklin reacts in yottoseconds and turns Manhattan into a turnip.

It then turns out that Manhattan saw this happening three years ago, and made a clone body.

But Franklin knew he knew, and had actually created a pocket universe within which Manhattan was trapped.

But Manhattan knew he knew he knew, and had time travelled to the 60s to insert a defunct gene in Reed (plot twist, he is the inspiration why the FF wear blue uniforms) which means Franklin is psychologically incapable of hurting him etc etc
