Um in myth Achilles was only made immortal by his mother dipping him in the River Styx. Now of course the whole she held him by the heel so that part wasn't made invincible. But other than that he had no real power. He was just a really good warrior who could not be killed by Mortal weapons. Herc on the other hand was absolutly capable of hurting Achilles. since his strength isn't of Mortal origin I bet it would hurt Achilles. Plus the only reason Hector lost to Achilles is because the Gods weren't siding with him in the fight yet he still fought a battle he knew he had no chance of winning. Herc kills Achilles.

Achilles was a demi-god, he was peak human in terms of strenght, stamina, reflexes, speed, durability and so.
He was invulnerable except for the heel, not invulnerable just to mortal weapons.

He was invulnerable except for the heel, not invulnerable just to mortal weapons. I know he was a demi god but like I said besides his body he had no real power. Hec was the son of Zues. Achilles couldn't be hurt by Mortal means but a god could defeat him no problem.

Why didn't his mother just submerge him in the river completely?

So a goddess can't swim and catch her son?

Why didn't she just put his heel in the river along with her hand?

Why didn't she just dip him again, holding him in a different position?

Alot of things in the myths wer never explained. Sure she could had bath his heel also. But that was merely to give an origin to explain Achiles invulnerability. The old stories didnt worried about these other details.

As it is, while both are Demi Gods, they are in different levels. Achiles was peak human while Herakles was above. (Godly strenght and stamina, with speed up ahead the human levels as well).

o.g. slaughter
what iz that pic of olympian. who iz that

olympian
Its Hercules. Its from the cover of his mini. Issue 3.

Btw i have been digging if there was any reason why Achiles mother never bathed his heel. One poster of another board says in that story her husband came on, saw her and was afraid she was about to kill the child. (the river was on tartarus - underworld so i kinda understand his fear). Thats why the heel was never dipped.

Its an explanation and probably there are others hinted.
