a question that has perplexed me for years. why do people enjoy listening to that horrid excuse for music. i mean, how is rap still popular after like 20 years of straight "sex with many anonymous partners", "do drugs till we die", Pimps, bitches and hoes, and killing each other. not to mention continuous distasteful profanity. Rappers have no talent. if you watch any live footage of a rap "concert", the rapper just looks bored passing back and forth on the stage. at least with real bands, they have fun when they perform. and rap is mostly pop these days. all the preps and jocks love rap.
bottom line: rap is the bane of my existence

Thats what I tried to say. Most people never hear rap except what is on MTV. But I know that I do not like rap, no matter how good the artist may be. It just isnt my type of music.

Most of the acts masquerading as Rap and R n B are fakes. I hear barely any rapping in 50 Cents stuff. I hear mumbled ramblings. Where the hell is there any rhythym or blues in Beyonce? These acts are POP. Those compilations that claim to be R n B and Soul are POP. Since when do you put a price tag on Soul music? "Blues" doesn't solely consist of whining about a boyfriend who dumped you, b*tches.

It's a shame that genres are allowed to bleed like this, with so many ignorant fools thinking this stuff is legit rap music and R N B and hip hop.

Check out the origins of hip hop and rap and you'll find some good stuff. Check out the likes of The Roots for some awesome hip hop with a difference.

Anything that Joe Nobody likes is pop music. They are casual morons who don't look any further than whats in front of them, so they buy pop music, because it's easy to find. Crap like 50 Cent, Eminem, Beyonce, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte all cater for idiots looking for a quick fix for their simplistic rap/hiphop/rock needs respectively. Every genre has a bunch of "black sheep" negatively representing them to the unwashed mindless masses. People that know nothing about making good music, don't know what is good music, so naturally most people will flock to garbage because their image is "cool". "Fiddy is a gansta, I wanna be just like him and get shot" etc.

I agree with some of this but i wouldnt put beyonce in the same category as 50 Cent. Fair enough if you dont like her music and/or what she represents but the girl is very talented and an accomplished vocalist.

I cant speak for Red Superfly here so correct me if I'm wrong Red, but i think he was saying that real RnB and soul music like James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Ray Charles and such never had to parade around semi naked to sell records. There are lots of girls that can sing as well as Beyonce but not many look like her therefore they are not millionaires. With artists like Beyonce, 50 Cent, Nelly and the rest its not just the music that the kids buy into its the whole image, whereas with the real artists of yesteryear it was purely about the music.

I think the problem is that preppy white kids who knew very little about music started listening to rap, and none of them bothered "going underground"

As far as this obsession with underground music, the claims that underground stuff is better may be true with rap/hip hop, but for rock there are some awesome bands that are very popular. There are just as many popular bands that are shit, but it becomes a matter of separating good from bad, as opposed to "going undergorund"

there is different types of rap aside from the 2 obvious ones hip-hop and rap. theres crunk rap, gangsta rap, and others but then there is underground. and the reason we call it underground is cuz its not mainstream and chances are people havent heard of it. but im sure you knew that already and that still fails to grasp what im telling you.

different genres talk about diffent stuff and the same stuff at the same time but for rap it didnt used to be like that. but now since rap has changed so much theres different genres within it. not all rappers raps about the hoes money sex ect. theres other rappers that are poetic and absract. but you wuld never hear them because some of them, that wuld make it on TV, are banned from the media cuz thats "not what people wanna hear these days."

Rap has produced some really cool music over the years, just saying it sucks is indeed ignorance. I must say that most of it lately is a mere shadow of rap/hiphops potential, but it remains a good concept.
I'm mostly into metal and rock, but amongst those kinds of albums I have a section with Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Eminem, Beastie Boys, Osdorp Posse, Outkast, 2 live Crew and such. And of course the rock-based stuff like Rage Against the Machine, FLC and The Bloodhound Gang. I admire a good rapper just as much as a good metal singer.

I have never liked rap I never will like rap FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN all they do is talk I have not seen any of them play imstuments they stand up on some stage and talk wow exciting but actual bands do stuff and enjoy what they do they play instruments sing (or in some cases scream) they have actual musical ability.
And yes i have heard some "Underground" rap and i didnt like it

running around the stage bobbing ur head till ur brain pops hardly strikes me as entertaing, since were looking at it from ur point of view.

Mos Def plays instruments, so does DJ Quik. lot of rappers play instruments.

That's equally as stupid an assumption as claiming rap sucks based on what you see on TV and the radio. Rock lyrics aren't horrible in the same way hip hop isn't horrible. There's shit and good in both genres. You've obviously never listened to Soundgarden, Tool, RATM, Bad Religion, or SOAD. Rappers have no talent. if you watch any live footage of a rap "concert", the rapper just looks bored passing back and forth on the stage. at least with real bands, they have fun when they perform. and rap is mostly pop these days. all the preps and jocks love rap.

Yo Rap is a way of life to people. It exresses how we feel. People like it because they understand it. You probably dont like it because you never went through the hood or getting shot or stabbed. Hell I got stabbed twice in my life. I like rap becasue rappers know how it is. When they talk about hoes and bitches, is because they now have what they wanted all there lives like Money, Power, Respect. Rap is not just music, its a way of life. The biggest problem with rap 'rockers' see is they just see it as spitting about cars, women, & money. Find any song written by Tupac, or Biggie. Dr. Dre can spit about his fame & money but do it CORRECTLY. Eminem has been spitting insanely lately in each song he wrote after Encore, and for you skeptical ones, Like Toy Soldiers, Mockingbird, Hailie's Song. He said if the situation arose, he would drop rap completely and take full time care of his daughter Hailie, and his niece Alaina who he adopted & gave her his last name.

That's all I feel about saying about this right now, because this battle will never end because of shallow people in the world and that's quite sad.
