Same reason behind hentai: people with wild imaginations got bored and decided to make money off of their ideas.

there can be a huge difference between hentai and yaoi. first off, hentai is just plain ol' sex between characters of any match . now as for yaoi...it doesn't have to deal with sex at all, unless the writer wishes to do so. yaoi is just a way to express a relationship between male characters in shows. and one really good examples of yaoi is "gravitation". now there's some kissing in the series and yea, if you're not dumb and can put 2 & 2 together, some sex scenes, but nothing that you can literally "see". i for one dont mind yaoi and actually find it interesting, but only if it is done right. in gundam wing for instance, 3x4 is a set couple, i personally couldnt see a 3x5, make sure the pairings are for one another. you can actually see a lot of it in different shows, if you watch carefully .

Yeah, I get where you're comin' from. I could never be like a yaoi freak. Because, quite frankly, there's just some yaoi I can't handle. I usually tend to stick to certain couple pairings I tend to like. Like:
Roy/Ed-FMA
Kai/Tyson-Beyblade
Athrun/Kira-Gundam Seed
Riku/Sora-Kingdom Hearts
And some Digimon couples as well, along with probably others I can't think of at the moment. It's just nice to read something that can be romantic, sexy, and different at the same time instead of just girl/boy stuff all the time.

I'm just saying...shifting a character's sexuality just to support your pairing irks me. And the same goes for canon shonen-ai and shoujo-ai, if they're gay just leave it at that. Unless the character is canonly bi then to that I say...go nuts!

I don't mind when people write yaoi fanfiction or something involving canonically straight couples, because, hell, it's just fanfiction. Every word of it is non-canonical, so why not change the romances around if it makes you happy? When people create web sites trying to convince other people that obviously straight characters really are a couple? That's just silly.

You know what I've noticed? When two male characters are close friends (Hiei/Kuruma, Kenshin/Sanosuke, Daisuke/Ken, etc), yaoi fangirls take it as proof that they're really gay, because, OMG they're so close. And when two male characters can't stand each other (Saitou/Sanosuke, Goku/Vegita, Zelgadis/Xellos, Harry/Draco in the non-anime front, etc), it's also taken as evidence that they're crushing for each other, because ... Jesus, I don't know why. I don't don't think that there's any way two male characters can interact with each other without someone taking it as conclusive proof that they're both gay.

And as far as I'm concerned anyone and everyone is free to fantasize as much as they please. When you like a certain couple, you shouldn't try to convince anyone that they're gay. Unless they're fellow yaoi people...When you like a certain couple it's natural to be happy to see images of them together.

If you're interested in a certain pairing, it's natural that you start finding hints to prove your theory, just don't force it on non-yaoi fans. 'Cause I'm not gonna lie, I didn't even think about yaoi till I met one of my friends who I discovered later was a yaoi freak. I thought Sora/Kairi was a cute couple before my friend analyzed it and found her "hints". Then I became a fan and started finding my own.

lol, ok sry...let me try and re-explain that. i'm not saying characters are "gay" or "supposed to be together". and i totally agree that the male characters can and are probablly just really close/good friends. i'm just putting in there that some of the way, that a certain scene or display of emotion is made to another character in an anime can sometimes be misleading. and im not saying characters are secretlly put together. what im trying to say is that, if by chance someone did want to try and say/make certain characters gay, make sure they have some chemistry. like heero&duo or quatre&trowa. im not saying they're originally gay or not its just that have it make sense, not just "oh, these 2 are my fav, i wish they were together and i want them to have sex".

If you're familiar with sexual slang, the "playing the flute" is an old codeword for blowjob. Aside from that, Quatre wears pink and he holds Trowa's hand in the series. Whenever Quatre is in troube, Trowa darts out to save him (such as when Dorothy stabbed him and when he became insane.) Neither Trowa nor Quatre have shown half as much interest in any other girl, or boy, in the series. So being a GW-geek who read the script for every single episode, Quatre and Trowa are as close as canon gets in GW. Rumor even has it they were created to draw in female fans.

But evidence aside, the producers of Gundam Wing never said there were *any* couplings because it is a shonen show, meaning any sort of love is secondary to action. No coupling was validated, even the official series artwork show contradicting pairings. So, that makes it a fan free-for-all!

I get what you're saying. And I'm sorry you can't find the information you want, I feel that way too some times. But, unfortunately for some pairings, if two people are more popular as a yaoi couple, there's really nothing you can do.
I can admit as a guilty pleasure I do enjoy looking at those type of sites for certain people.

And I think that it was pretty obvious Heero and Releena were meant for each other. Whether Duo/Heero is a hot pairing or not.

To sailormoon's post. I understand completely. What's sad about the Dearka/Yzak thing...it's frickin' EVERYWHERE! Like the PLAGUE! Why can't they just view their relationship as two guys who are buddies? Almost brotherly? Yaoi-manga.com is just DMP's yaoi section, and they do have good manga. Yaoipress, on the other hand, seems to be American artists failing badly to copy Japanese comic art styles, without bringing any of the genre's charm to the table.

its about this really adorable kid Ritsuka (male, 12yrs- age is important) and this other guy Soubi (20yrs...) and their search for the murderer of Ritsuka's older brother Semei. anyways its pretty complicated but if you love a bit of freakiness and uber orgeous art you will love it :P
