The Thing (current)

VS

Mortal Hercules

Who wins?

GalacticStorm
Hercules. Judging from She hulks reaction to being considerably stronger than him in her series. She seemed surprised as if it was a big feat. Whereas when she maxed out Things max with one arm she did it on a whim like it was nothing big. Hercs stronger and a better fighter. Thing goes down once again.

Agreed, Hercules.

I dont think that depiction of Hercules is weakened at all. MOrtal Herc is more like the HErc that was demolished by the Hulk. Thing could take that Herc too. But Im conflicted about who would win between Thing and the Herc of the nineties with the long hair and shoulder pads. This most recent Herc, that has his own book seems stronger than the previous version.

"MOrtal Herc is more like the HErc that was demolished by the Hulk."

Tecnically, the Mortal Herc that lost against Hulk, and that fought Ares in the mini after that (scans in the Hercules Thread) and that belonged to heroes for hire for some time, was way weaker. The same when he went against Neafarius, and the guy didnt even felt his punches.

In the late years, Mortal Hercules seemed to have gotten stronger under most writters. Busiek made him trash the Thunderbolts and almost killing Atlas (scans in the thread). The same writer in Avengers # 12 made him stand together with Thor pretty well against more than 3 of the examplars. Jurgens in the last volume of Thor, had Hercules punch Thor out of a bar, and together with the Destroyer holding its own against the whole army of the Dark Gods. And the same against Diana in Jla/Avengers #2.

And finally you have She Hulk # 9 where she was surprised to find out she was stronger than Herc, while before she lifted Things max weight with one hand, like it was nothing.

All those appearances have the ocassionally statement about him being depowered, its just that the level when he first was depowered seems long gone.

Is he back to his peak in his recent series?

armandovalles
no way. He's still not even close to his peak, but over the years since Zeus took away his immortality he has gradually been getting stronger.

Thats not an actuall official change that hercules is going through is it? Its just that he's being written better these days more in line with when he was immortal. Its not like he's going through some physical augmentation as time goes on. Sorry if thats not what youre saying but thats what your post suggests.

Either way Herc wins
