IS the Dark Side stronger?

It's been said many times that the Force is split evenly into two sides, Dark and Light. Neither can overpower the other in theory, but Episode III would seem to contradict this.

Palpatine masterminded a grand scheme and successfully overthrew the Republic and the Jedi with the aid of Anakin Skywalker. When Yoda and Palpatine fought, it was clear Palpatine was the stronger.

This would seem to contradict the idea of the duality of the Force. It seemed that the Dark Side really was stronger, at least in the PT.

Thoughts?

You know what...

Nevermind I don't have the patience for this.

Isn't this exact same thread, made by the exact same guy, in the Episode III forum?

I requested the old one be locked and reproduced it here because I realized this is too EU to belong in the Episode III forum. It was also generating a fairly hostile response, which seems to be repeating itself here.

Has no one on this forum resisted the urge to flame from behind a computer? Relevant, thoughtful discussion please.

Nah, we can't resist. It's over the internet so noone can actually hurt each other. We just RUN with the oppurtunity.

But.....the Dark Side DID conquer the Light. But the Light eventually struck back and overthrew the Dark, did it not? The Light and Dark will always have it out, with one winning every now and then only to be defeated by the other. How very Classic.

No, Episode III does NOT contradict this. Episode III is a moment of imbalance, which is rectified by Episode VII. If evil was clearly stronger, it would always rule. It doesn't, because it is self defeating.

And no, it wasn't "clear" that Sidious was stronger. If anything, Sidious was weaker. He lost his saber to Yoda in combat, and he had his lightning reversed back on him at point blank range by Yoda. Sidious was -fortunate- to have survived that last Force battle, and was also fortunate to have been able to hold the upper ground. Yoda showed better agility and Force mastery than Palpatine did, and would have most certainly owned the Sith Lord in a more even environment.

And the dark side -was- stronger in the PT, due to imbalance caused by the Sith. But such an imbalance would never persist, because the lightside exists to counter it. Thus, neither will ever gain a lasting advantage over the other. It is balance. Period.

And this has been done to the death.

Your question asks about Episode III; it was running fine in the Episode III area. Please do not duplicate like this.
