I heard the fifth 'Jaws' was to be a prequel that would be set in the 40's that would involve a young Quint battling a shark aboard the USS Indianapolis (mentioned in original film). And that it is to be released Summer 2007, and that Steven Spielberg had actually expressed interest in directing it. I also thought he would never want to direct a 'Jaws' sequel or prequel since he loathed the films beyond the original.

I heard one working title was 'Jaws: Darkest Waters'.

Well, There was already a 'Jaws 5' According to IMDB.

i think that would be very cool to explore quints past. i would probably see regardless if spielberg directed it or not

It's still in pre-production. So The filming hasn't even begun. A release date is un decided so far.

Sometime next year. If I had to guess, I'd say Summer.
