Luke Skywalker....Dark Side?

General G
I believe Luke was for a small portion of episode 6: Return of the jedi went to the dark side because when he went into Jabba's Palace and the Gammorean Gueards go over to them he uses Force Choke. Correct me if i am wrong but i thought Force Choke was a dark side trait.
Ushgarak
You're wrong.
There is actually nothing to indicate that at all outside of computer games and the like.
It's just a form of telekinesis to squeeze. Squeezing isn't evil. Hacking someone in half with a Lightsabre is a far more heinous issue and Jedi get away with that.
General G
yes, but do you see any other jedi doing that, and the Gammorean grabbed for his throat, and didnt really get back up. That sounds like an unnecessary kill.
overlord
Well.. No matter how you analyse force choke.. He certainly used the dark side.
Dirk Jade
he does fall to the darkside in episode 6. He Gives in to his ANGER and whoops his daddys mechanical ass.
Tangible God
And then falls again like 6 years later.
God, what a hypoctrite.

Beru: He has too much of his father in him.
Owen: That's what I'm afraid of...
Maybe just showing the family resemblence (other than wearing black...)
Ushgarak
He doesn't fall to the Dark Side in 6- that's not something he would recover from.
He was being tested by it, but at the crucial point, he rekected it, where Anakin had fallen.
"Gammorean grabbed for his throat, and didnt really get back up."
I didn't notice him die. And what would you have rather he did, used a sabre? Seemed like a fine non-lethal takedown to me.
overlord
He only gave in to his anger when he choked that alien to death for no reason. Perhaps it was to lead the viewer to think that he could be seduced by the dark side.
But he doesn't fall to it as Dirk Jade thinks.

General G, i was gonna post a topic just like this but u beat me!!!! furious
Captain REX
You don't come back from the Dark Side unless you're Vader or unless you're in EU. Luke did not fall to the Dark Side, otherwise he would have joined Palpatine. Period.
He did not strangle the Gamorrean to death. It temporarily frightened the pig to step aside and subdued him.
Next Venom_girl
I thought there was this kind of finality to its keeling over squealing though. (I was under the impression that they died).

Council#13

i think they're just cowards (see how one tried scambling up the hole when the rancor was coming, while Oola just sobbed and seemed to beg for mercy?)
exanda kane
Ush is right. Using anger in a fight isn't the dark side, it leads to the dark side.
Lucas allowed Luke to use Force Choke to show how far he had progressed since ESB, and he didn't have the principles of light side/dark side powers figured out yet apart from Force Lightning.
Red Superfly
Or, maybe Luke did just knock them out.
I remember posting a thread about this very same thing a while back, and after some thought I think he just put them to sleep.
It DOES give the impression that he choked them, and it's down to your own assumptions whether or not he killed them. Maybe using a choke wasn't the best choice to demonstrate Luke's progression, due to the fact being choked is frightening, and the Jedi are not terrorists.
exanda kane
True, but its one of the things I'm willing to dismiss if he did choke them.
overlord
Someone who isn't as lazy as me should find out whether he indeed killed the cow.

Like Lucas cared twenty years ago... the Jedi and Sith "rules" weren't as half defined as they are now (and even now they contradict themselves sometimes).
You guys think about this waaaay too much.
steverules
Luke turned to the darkside but then turned back to the good side again in a book set after episode 6 but people don't usually count the books.

Shadow x 20
Force Choke wasn't made to be a dark side/ light side attack in ROTJ. In fact Palp and Vader weren't called Sith yet during the OT times for no one heard the word Sith until like TPM.
overlord
They were sith alright during those times.. Lucas has written the word sith down so many times but for some apperant reason never used it in the movie or something.
