This comes with Lana's blessing (to dispel any thoughts that I'm going rogue here).

Over in the comics forum we've had regular tournaments which are usually very popular. Copy/paste that idea in this forum, and you'll see where I'm going.

Provided there's enough interest, I'd like to spearhead a tournament that goes a bit further than our regular duels. We'll have seedings, brackets, eliminations...and an eventual winner. The winner, besides adding some more duel wins to his/her belt, will be the "KMC Signature Champion" until another similar tourney puts their "championship" on the line (every few months seems reasonable, though it's certainly up in the air).

I'd be doing most of it...but would also ask selected others to be guest judges and stuff like that. If this happens, I'd like to enter as well, though there'd obviously be someone else judging my matches to make it impartial.

Questions? Concerns? Remarks?

Mainly what I need is a "I'm in" or similar affirmation if you want to be in it, so that we can get a decent head-count. We can make most even numbers work, though 8 or 16 is obviously the ideal for a bracket-style tourney.

Hmmm...looks like interest won't be a problem.

Keep in mind this'll run slightly slower than normal duels, but once the matches start it should only take about 2 weeks.

I'd also like to set up the matches randomly, but I'm thinking setting the top few seeds aside for heavyweights (like Ken, for example, and others if they join) might be good...to heighten the drama of the later matches.

I was hoping you'd join...lends some extra credibility to the proceedings. 5 already then, and I guess I make 6. I'm shooting for 16, so this might have to stay up for a day or two until the slots are filled. But if they're not, we'll improvise.

P.S. Anyone can feel free to PM anyone they think would be good for this (Duel regulars and such). And feel free to voice any opinions, ideas, or questions.

Do we need overarching rules, like a standard file size limit for all matches (my initial thought would be 450x150 and circa 40KB)...or should it change match-to-match?

Hmmmm.

I think something like 450x150 and 50kb would be fine for all of them, since that's more or less the standard for the duels themselves.

How about for each level of the tourny there is only 1 set of rules. Same render, everything. It changes for each level though.

I think the first round should be a free-for-all, in that everyone can pick their own images, style, etc. and just have to adhere to size restrictions that are set.

Yep. Toss a little variety into the mix, and allow everyone to work in their styles with something they're most comfortable with for the first round.

Hmph. Interesting. An obvious break from normal duel protocol, but it could be fun.

It would still have to be head-to-head though....not "16 people GO!" type of thing. And at least the later rounds should have a set render.

Agreed....the more I think about it, the more I like it.

I realized a slight flaw in the idea Lana....but it's fixable.

If we just say "Round 1 is an open signature forum as long as it's below the size requirements" what's stopping someone from starting a sig, say, now to enter in round 1? Heck, they could technically just pull out an old sig they've done if they didn't have time for a new one. I think that defeats the purpose.

The easy solution is to give a general idea of what to do, not an actual render, so that there's direction for it, but also allows for some freedom. For example, I could say "Signature has to deal with Gilligan's Island in some way." Or, "Develope a signature that has a theme of 'fear' to it." I won't actually use those, but they're decent examples.

It will eliminate urges to cheat or be lazy, but will also allow freedom. Sound good?

Then later rounds will switch to normal duel format.

im definetley in! i wont win, but it would ne noce to see how far i could make it. im up for any rules, but who would judge such a gargantuan task? in fact, this task is so gargantuan, that u think no one man/woman ( ) could take it on. hint hint, digi and lana (unless lana wants to participate?)

Have like an East Coast West Coast division, like in Sports, where its like....

8 on one side of the bracket, 8 on the other, and then the overall winners of their brackets go against each other, for supreme leadership..

And to address pac's question, I'll be doing most of the judging, but will be asking people to be guest judges from time to time. For example, to remain unbiased, there'll obviously be another judge in any match I'm in, but if we have brackets we'll know who I'l face next if I win. For those I'll bring in an outside judge, so no one can accuse me of picking an inferior sig so that I'll have an easier opponent in the next round.

I say the final round should be a doozy...Animation, transparency, the whole shebang...with a fairly large file size limit...say, 500KB to give the competitors a lot to work with.

Well that's where your best 2 out of 3 would come in then. If they suck at animation they could at least give it a try, but if they are killer with sigs and avatars, then they could still win.

Sounds fair to me. If they had enough skill to get to the finals they still have a chance.

The rules for the tourney are higher up on this page. Two matches will be posted at a time, then two more once those are finished. And I'd like to invert the match order so that I can judge the first matches. So choosewisely/Ken and Honda/Amity will be first, then we'll move up the brackets from there. I'll be judging those two, then will bring in some guest judges. Barring any protests from participants, matches will start tomorrow (Wed.) but there'll be probably 48 hours allotted for each match.

We'll have the finals match at the end, and I think it would be cool to have a 3-4 match then too. But how about having a battle royale for the round 1 losers (8 of them), and letting the winner of that into the 3-4 match, for the chance to be 3rd?? Some extra dueling, but it might be fun.

I'll be extending the time limit to 72 Hours. Since there isn't a render, just a "theme" given, this will give participants extra time to search for their own stuff before beginning a sig.

Just practice lots. Two weeks ago, DW and myself couldn't make a decent sig to save our lives. We're still a ways from the veterans (Ken, TOH, and the like) but you can make up a lot of ground in a hurry.

Looks fine. I wouldn't have known that it wasn't a shadow unless you told me.

I've done that before, for shadow effects, make a duplicate layer in a different color it can work quite well.

Since it hasn't been said for a while, CyberNinja vs. Mist and Tptmanno vs. pacmaniac will start Saturday, and will follow the same "theme" format as the first two matches. Then the following two matches (Law/DW and Barker/Lana) will go up Monday or Tuesday.

There will be a guest judge for these 2 (so that I'm not doing all the judging) but that judge is to-be-announced, as I'm still working out the logistics of who and when various judges will be coming in besides me.

I hate this "Love" theme. I can't find any renders to use and I can't think of anything whatsoever.

It is good to test my skills, but I still think this theme sucks.
