The church in it's determined ways to please god though seeking out the devil in all its forms did many hideous things. For instance the belief in Werewolf's. It was reported that a werewolf was captured by the Inquisition in 1598 and was possessed by a demon...While in prison it was said that he drank a tubful of water until his belly was distended and hard...This was the official report...Though in actually he was probably the unlucky guy who was subjected to the water torture and died of a ruptured stomach.

Another report was that of Peter Stubb of Cologne,, tortured until he confessed to being one himself by taking a magic girdle given him by the devil...though the judges never could find the girdle, saying "it has gone back to the devil who gave it." Though this case was unproved, Stubb was nastily executed and was sentenced to have his flesh pulled off his bones in 10 places with red-hot pokers, then have his legs and arms broken with wooden axes and finally beheaded and burned.

There were many cases of were wolves at this time. If a person had scratches and scars over his/her body, it was said they came from their transformed werewolf bodies running through the brambles.....IF you were found out, the usually would hack off your arms and legs, searching for the wolf hair that you wore inside your skin.........If they could not find the hair, then you were considered innocent, which did you NO GOOD, since you were dead.....oh god.......

Though werewolves have taken a back seat, has the church changed much in it's superstitions?

lil bitchiness
Only in the matters that such is illegal these days. Combined with much science, I think the superstitions have changed.

These days there are different kind, which would probably be punishable as harshly and inhumanely as those, if it wasnt illegal.

Tomas de Torquemada was one of the most insane sons of bitches who ever lived.

However, claims of werewolves have validity in the fact that the ancient Dacians were feared by the Germans who settled in parts of Transylvania and Wallachia because of the Dacian religious belief that they evolved from wolves.

Werewolf stories are very wide and encompass many different religions also... Belief in the werewolf, or "spirit-wolf", probably began with early medieval wolf clans who worshipped their totemic gods in wolf form...Lycanthropy (werewolfism) was named for Apollo Lycaeus "Wolfish Apollo" who used to be worshipped in the famous Lyceum or Wolf temple, where Socrates taught...There are also She Wolfs that are associated with the triple Goddess. In Mercia during the 10th century ad the druid priest called on the spirit of the wolf also....it meant "Out Law"

Lovers of the She Wolf would masturbate over the Goddess's statue and ejaculate on it for protection ...She would guide and protect them, provided they never set foot in a Christian church.......hhaha

See it's just not being accused of being a witch.....though by using herbs one was thought to be using devil magic........

Today I see it taugh in many churchs that demons now are everywhere and are attacking you by this or that going wrong.....Now it demons, demons, demons....The end is Near and it's the "Us and Them"....it seems....

Is it getting worse, or is it me???

Any other thoughts about superstitions of today..
