I really enjoyed the japanese movie Ringu and the two follow on films (sequel and prequel). When the film was remade as Ring i expected nothing better than what it was, a big fat disappointment. Does anyone agree?

Well i've only seen The ring and I liked it alot! I guess its like when you read a book and then you watch the movie you are always disapointed! What works in the movie is the element of surprised, diffult to surprise someone who already knows the story!

duffy
Ive only seen Ringu but from the trailers for the ring it looked nowhere near as good, was i rite?

Unfortunately, yes. If you enjoyed Ringu, then see Ringu 2 and Ringu 0. The final scenes from 0 are more terrifying than a hat full of horror movies!!! The guy who directed them has a new movie on release called Dark Waters, and Film 2003 described it as the scariest movie since Ringu. It's on release in the UK at the moment.
Kes
I liked the ring and thought it was quite creppy, couldn't stop thinking about it for a week or so!though it would have been cool if they had left the scenes with chris cooper! havent seen ringu.probably wont!
noodles
You should..you're a horror fan.

I've never seen the original japanese version, however i saw the american one, nothing special. over rated, didnt think it was scary at all.
Kes
Who me?
And BF if it doesnt have zombies or blood its never good for you.
Intriging that you where bothered by texas massacre!

BackFire349
i actually love psychological horror as well. i love all types of horror. and the thing that got me in tcm was its realism, it was like watching a documentary, it was so damn bleak
Kes
cool! i got to watch that. it was on not so long ago but i forgot. dont know if i can fall for the realism thing! kinda hard when its a movie lol
worst horror movie ever? like real garbage?
for me blair witch project! what a waste offilm!

BackFire349
oh, i didnt think ring was bad, just not worth all the hype. if you wanna talk horrid horror movies....queen of the damned.... darkness falls, fear dot com, blair witch 2, and both i know what you did last summers along with soul survivors, valentine, and probably many more i cant remember.
Kes
i didn't know queen of the dammed, i know what you did last summer and valentin were suppose to be horror! lol
BackFire349
just stay away from all those movies.
Kes
lol

There are remakes of Day of the Dead and Salems Lot on the way, and theres a remake of tcm without the gore!!!!
BackFire349
no remake of day of the dead, although id love to see one , if it were to be directed by george romero so he could make it the way he originally wanted too.
tasteier
I saw The Ring first, and then rented Ringu a bit later. If you have seen either, then you have seen both. The Amercian version is damn near identical to the Japanese version.
grymlock
well i like the ring (us version) rather then the ring (original version) coz of the way they make it... but for dark water emmm i don't like it nothing much to like...
Fallin Angel
i didn't know there was a ringu 0 and 2
grymlock

Fallin Angel

Remakes have a really negative stigma, especially US remakes of foreign films. But I enjoyed both versions immensely.
The Ring disturbed me more than any movie I'd seen in a while. I immediately searched for a copy of the original, and loved it just as much. The remake scared me more, but I think that's really only because I saw it first.
Although very similar, there were some differences between the two. And I think the most important one is in The Ring, they didn't explain things nearly as much- leaving a lot of questions open at the end. And in my opinion, that approach is actually a little scarier- the less you know, the less you can take comfort in. Of course, Ringu still gets major praise for originality.
