Most missed EU: V-19 Torrent. These things rock my socks off.

Let it be known I'm a power over finesse guy. To get that job done I like the LAAT gunship, ARC-170, and the B-Wing.

The YT-1300, although the Falcon's caffeine producing applications (they must exist) make that the prime example. Other than that its some of the nice used future ships like an X-Wing or a Mon Cal Cruiser.

Gotta say something about some of the PT vehicles, costumes etc...

A lot of that stuff (especially stuff that ties directly into the the OT) is forced, contrived, and uninspired.

The jedi starfighters in Sith are a perfect example..they're not cool, they're crap!

The original clone troopers...don't look cool, they look lame!

So many people fool themsleves into thinking all this PT stuff is cool...just 'cause it's in their favorite new Star Wars movie...and you know what...it's just ugly, lame crap... (There is a lot of good stuff, but the ARC fighter is NOT one of them...ugh!)

When the OT first came out, it was (for the most part) art unbridaled, unleashed...an open canvas to do whatever with the Star Wars universe. Really, at the end of the day, is the Millenium Falcon not one of the coolest things you've ever seen...NOTHING in the PT even comes close to that.

There was room for artistic expression in the PT as well, but not as much because you always had the OT looming over you...and no matter how you dice it, that WILL get in the way of complete artistic expression.

ARC fighters?...that is easily the ugliest of the bunch...if you like them, you simply like bad art... (that is sooo me, isn't it?)

Example of uninspired, lame, ugly, PT "tie-in" ship/vehcicle crap...

Example of inspired, awesome, sweet lookin', OT "no tie-in needed" ship/vehcicle...

A lot of the stuff in the PT shows tremendous originality. What about the lartys? What about the Delta-7 Starfighters and the hyperspace rings? What about the droid fighters?

What you seem to be missing is that starships are supposed to show connections and allegiances. You're meant to associate the ARCs with the X-wings and the Eta-2s with the TIEs. Droid fighters are supposed to look like mass-produced over-marketed cheap Taiwanese knock-ups.

You may just find them to be a lame reflection, but they really are not.

Stromtroopers are a franchise all to themselves! Look at the 501st Legion!! There will NEVER be that many people who will have the original clone trooper costumes...they're just lame.

Ok. Very little artistic freedom was limited in TPM because most everything was new. The two references we saw were the Trade Federation Battleships and the Infiltrator. Both these ships had similar inspirations.

Things like the Delta-7 were totally new. They simply make reference to the "wedgie" shape of the star destroyer.

I guess, as an artist, its not limiting my creativity to work within a known universe or with a clear direction in mind. You can say that the stabilizers on the ARC-170s and the Eta-2s are contrived, but why to x-wings and TIEs have them anyway? I don't think they look more ridiculous in one place than another. (ARCs are a bit awkward, but I still like them a lot...I'll try to think of why) Pure artistic freedom came int he form of ships that weren't going to be used again (Tri-fighters, Lartys, Grievous' Starfighter, Vulture fighters, V-19 Torrents etc) but there still is lots of room as an artist to do what you want within a framework.

You answered too quickly...there's more edits to my last post...and I forgot what Larty's are.

But honestly, I was trying to find some cool PT vehicles to give as examples, and I was surprised to find myself having a hard time out of such a selection.

As soon as you star making hundreds of ships/vehcles for your movies, the level of quality ends up suffering.

Look at the OT stuff...there aren't a lot, but each one of them is gem! The falcon, star destroyer, tie-interceptor, snowspeeder, emperor's shuttle. All beauts!

I'm not saying they shouldn't have had a lot of vehicles in the PT, but at the end of the day, the staying power of those designs are just...meh!

I do like Zam's speeder, the wookie stuff (although I wish they showed them for more than 2 seconds), the clunky...and quirky...droid army stuff, the Naboo fighters, Trade Fed. landing ships, sebulba's podracer, and the gungan sub.

(I'm so glad Anakin's starfighter wasn't in the movies...Jeez!)

i've gotta agree with alliance on this one...

i like the starfighters quite a bit, and i consider the OT to be far beyond the pt when it comes to the movies themselves...

i think, at least in a visual, aesthetic sense, the pt has a hell of alot going for it, especially in the realm of starships and fighters...

it has nothing to do with liking the movies for me, just the designs...

and clones rock imo... especially episode II ones... the uniform, the weapons, the ships, the lot...

What I like about the Phase I armor is that (at least in the EU, which is the only area that actually covers these things) is that it fits in with the Kamino architecture. I like that the sleek white armor fitst that culture, yet, connects to the Empire.

The Phase I armor also doesn't fit the clones very well and is bulky and not alway anatomically correct. Its a perfect statement of the abuse of the clones by the Kaminoans.

Phase II armor kicks ass, even if it is contrived. w00t

The original designs in the PT are the coolest ones. I'm supposing a 'Larty' is a gunship? The Naboo Starfighter definitely in there. The Jedi Starfighter from AOTC was neat and more original.

Sorry, Yeah I forgot to answer that. A "Larty" is slang for the LAAT/i Gunship.

I like Phase II armor better than Phase I, but Phase I is more artistically viable.

i actually prefer the phase 1 armour, and the arc dudes in cw cartoon cemented that for me...

i love the laat, especially the sound effect of their engines...

Argh. Did you know that armies contain different types of soldiers and those soldiers have different uniforms?

Its not a stretch. The clones are one of the BRILLIANT (may I emphasize that) bridges between PT and OT. The Phase I troopers are DISTINCTLY Kaminoan. The Phase II troopers are a bridge between the two, yet the armor makes logical sense. Of the Three armors, Stormie armor is the worst. There is nothing contrived abotu the armor.

And the "kilt" is called a kama. And ARC are glorious. Its about time the amries that fight the star WARS are treated as soldiers and not expendable rats.

The clones are the most ingenious child of the Star Wars Saga.

I liked them too, thier destruction at Endor makes me hate the majority of ROTJ. Scout Troopers are even more brilliant.

....but then I learned about clones. People would be a lot more obsessed if they could easily buy clonetrooper armor. The clones have way more character and way more depth that is physiologically possible with stormtroopers. Their intelligence, depth, culture, abuse, and the nature of the Clone Wars gives them this...stormies can never have any of those things.

I'm an artist myself. One of if perhaps the best aspects of Star Wars to me is the art. I'm telling you from experience, working towards a goal is not THAT artistically limiting. You complain about artistic limitations, but then complain about the incredible variaton in the PT which came about from the diversity of the creative process. This makes no sense.

I'm not just arguing practicality. I've repeatedly stated other reasons, such as artistry, culture, and ther abuse....not to mention their role in the CLone wars and Mando culture.

At the end of the day, most people don't care about that stuff...especially when it's buying a costume...They care about how cool it looks, and in this case, how cool Stormtoopers look. If they aren't in fact interesting as you say, then why all the Stromtooper nuts? Cause they look cool-ass...and all I've ever been talking about until now is the look, the look, the look.

and as far as the pt goes, the clones are, imo, one of the greatest contributions to the saga made by the pt...

It's a spaceship I guess...from the EP I deleted scenes. Never really cared...just thought it looked cool. Imagine being an animator/modeler on that and then getting it deleted...I'd explode! (At least it made it on the bonus disc).
