What would DC have to do, to wash the tarnish away from Darkseid, short of a cheap avatar/clones retcon?

This was my suggestion from another board.

They have to at least acknowledge the fact that Superman beat his ass 3 times.

Without doing that, and somehow explaining it away, whatever he does will always be tainted by the Superman thrashings.

Let them say, that the majority of his vast, near infinite energies, were constantly being used to try and keep his father, Khan in the source wall.

Just make it so something fantastical and out of this world godly had required most of his vast energies, and now that the threat has gone, he's no longer so depleted.

His losses to Superman occurred, when he was trying to fortify himself with a more powerful honor guard (Supergirl arc), and a new bodyguard (Steel in the Aegis Entropy, Apok Now).

And lo and behold, he was beaten when he was caught alone, so much energy he'd put to other tasks.

And recap the panel where Superman knocks the stuffing outta his ass in the sun, but in the background show him in giant form locked with his father, energy pouring out of their eyes, dwarfing suns and solar systems being destroyed, ala Tyrant and Galactus, with him yelling at his father who calls him Uxas, "I am Darkseid!"

That way, we see why he was beaten by Superman, and that those battles were of little consequence in the scheme of things.

And how he was so preoccupied with the real threat.
Acknowledge the losses, but downplay their importance to him. And make it abundantly clear why he lost.

Thus, we get Khan freed, and some nice post crisis Promethian Giant feats(Something like slaying a league of imps and rewriting daxamite and New God dna), and some new hardcore DS feats, which all in all, bolster the Dark God of Apok back to his above the top tier, if not skyfather premiere levels.

Superman has only been beating on an near infinitely weakened Darkseid, who'd been constantly fighting battles with his more powerful father across higher levels of the conscious creation.
Or higher dimensions, if you will.

We see fade shots of Giant, true form Darkseid and his father, constantly fighting in different forms across multiple dimensions of reality. Not dimensions like Asgard and Olympus, but higher states of existence, like the theta plane etc.

Darkseid comes back into being, his full might at the ready.

Yuga Khan has broken out, and storms the Fourth World(since we know its not gone forever).

Darkseid telekinetically turns the planet Earth into atomic dust, killing all its heroes in the process.

The lynchpin destroyed, the milky way collapses into itself, and the universe is dying.

The day of doom has arrived, and all is lost.

The New Gods come onto the scene, saving the day somehow and we get some nice Orion astroforce feats, as he works through time and space, and switches the Earth of the Prime universe, with the regular earth of current continuity.

With all the heroes dead, the New Gods get some nice shine without worrying about popular heroes jobber auras.

Thus, the milky way is never destroyed, and we now have a motive for SBP trying to destroy the universe again, at Darkseids side.

We then see Darkseid bitchslap SBP for being a whiny emo, and we see that Darkseid is now at his peak, once more.

The bitchslapping of SBP, would be a homage to PC Darky slapping down PC Superman.

Then he leaves to wreak carefully controlled havoc in the fourth dimension.............?

Darkseid thwarted, but the heroes never physically touch the guy.

End

Sorry for how long it is.
