Best movies of 2004 so far is Spider-Man 2 and Kill Bill Vol. 2.
Worst movies of 2004...it's a tie, and they both debuted on the same day:
- Van Helsing
- New York Minute (yes, I did see that movie)
Just so you know, there is a movie titled Without A Paddle coming along in about 2 weeks, thus I could very well change those selections for worst movie of 2004.
SlipknoT
If I had to narrow it down those would be my choices two
BloomBabyGirl
what was so bad bout van helsing? the plot ending was kinda weak but it was till good
botankus
Kill Bill, The Village, The Passion, Anchorman to name a few. And I don't watch Harry Potter movies but if I did see it I'm sure it would be on the latter list.

3. The Punisher
4. Hellboy
WORST
Random Order
Shrek 2
Catwoman
Kill Bill Volume 2
The Village
Chronicles Of Riddick
I, Robot
Troy
Alpha Centauri
I don't think Troy was one of the worst at all. I thought, besides dubious dialogue here and there, that it was a very good movie.
Mean Girls I have never seen and will never see but just from it's concept I can tell you it deserves no place other than that of the worst list.
-AC
WindDancer
I'm cool with that.
TheFilmProphet
The cast was great Eric Bana, Brad Pitt, and Orlando Bloom. But the story was a bit weak at best. They made it seem as if all these thousands of people were killed over some woman. Orlando didn't do much of anything in the film. Eric was killed with about 45 minutes left in the film. I think the film could have been done much better than it was.
BloomBabyGirl
Alpha GO SEE MEAN GIRLS IT HILARIOUS! and troy...weher was helen in all of it? she had like 2 scnees
Alpha Centauri

That's how it happened so I'm cool with how they did it. Pretty accurate and that's coming from a history/mythology fan.
"Alpha GO SEE MEAN GIRLS IT HILARIOUS! and troy...weher was helen in all of it? she had like 2 scnees."
I've got enough airheaded bimbos around where I live without paying to see them do nothing on a screen thanks.
Troy was about the consequences of everything, not the one woman.

I don't get why everyone is putting 'Dawn of the Dead' I mean it was another one of those stupid "Look there are dead rotting people.. run" movies. If I were to choose one of those movies that was actually good, it would be 28 days later.. it actually carried a PLOT.
Best:
Kill Bill vol. 2
Eternal Sunshine Of the Spotless Mind (went straight to my favorites list)
I can't remember the dates of most of these movies.. let's just say that there were alot of movies that were advertized really well and LOOKED really good but turned out to be pure CRAP.

Worst " " " - The Village
MissesDepp?!
apparently it came out August 6th but I've seen it in no theatres, today I was informed of two in my city.
WindDancer
The remake of Dawn of the Dead had more zombies. We love zombies! Besides is the same thing with 28 days later. Look there are rotting people...run. So much for a plot.
RaventheOnly

its a true story

the fighting was awesome.
O.K. were does Kill Bill 2 come into the area of a good movie?

they were both loads of crap
The horror movies of this era are also loads of crap... nothings bloody scary at all... they are all let downs.

you could take the zombies and give em rifles and call it a 80 war film

SlipknoT
um there have been alot of bloody horror movies within the past few years Dawn of the Dead, Cabin Fever, Freddy vs. Jason, House of 1000 corpses and I cant really think of any others
RaventheOnly

you aren't aware of the adverb bloody

its like saying freakin or f'ing

MissesDepp?!
yeah but it doesn't matter, whether YOU used it as an adverb or not he was using it as an adjective.. it didn't change what either one of you were saying.. but that doesn't matter. Kill Bill WAS a good movie, it was gorey yeah but who cares? It wasn't put into a horror movie genre...
Spitback
Worst
catwomen added
RaventheOnly
actually it would change what i was saying... blood filled horror movies are usually the crapiest anyway... they think if they throw gore at you it will some how make it scarier.
BloomBabyGirl
kill bill was awesome but if they ddiitn have blood that wouldve defeated the purpose of KILL bill
SlipknoT
Kill Bill did kick ass.
MissesDepp?!
Thats the thing, a human mind responds to things like blood and guts in resent and fear. It's not very appealing to the brian (there are exceptions?) Nowadays peoples minds have become used to seeing blood and cuts and severed heads in movies but way back when it was new and scary..
Stormy Day
Kill Vol.1 sucked.
Taratino is a good director but he just doesnt know how to write a story.Instead of putting the whole story out of order he should've put it in the order it happened. It wasnt fair to me that I had to spend a whole 90 minutes of my life watching this person fight so many people for a reason I didnt even know much about.
Kill Bill Vol.2 on the other hand is excellent

RaventheOnly

Kill bill was made to be stupid guys... it was making fun of already stupid 80's martial arts movies

which makes it in turn stupid.

Stormy Day
It was stupid. This kind of movie makes me think who pathetic and easily pleased the average movie goer is.Just throw them mindlless gore and they'll love.Dont worry about the plot because there gonna be so busy and the gore they wont even care anymore

forumcrew
the butterfly effect
man on fire
garden state
kill bill vl2
eternal sunshine
bourne supremacy
troy

some of the best of the year in my opinion the first 3 are my top choices for sure.. the others were pretty good
Cinemaddiction
In retrospect, after seeing "Kill Bill: Volume 2", I have to disagree. Aside from the anime segment, the hospital rape scene, and the "pussy wagon", which I detested, I did like "Kill Bill" deep down. It was a fun flick to watch.
The problem lies in the fact that the movies were split up. There was PLENTY of backstory in "Kill Bill" to merit Kiddo's actions. She "roared and rampaged" through 1/2 of her "death list", much like "The Bride Wore Black", with the Kung Fu themed movie feel.
The plot, Stormy, is simple. Revenge. Gore and obscene language is typical Tarantino.
That said, "Kill Bill: Volume 2" was the beginning of the end. The elaborate explanation of Kiddo's backstory was totally unnecessary and would have been more effective at the beginning of 1, during it's flashback segment.
Had that been thrown into the first movie, cut out all the unnecessary training montages, her being buried alive, Budd getting fired from his job, and her drama trying to find Bill through the Latino pimp, and of course drop the HUGE BUCKETS OF SAP that were alllll throughout this movie, the two would have worked seemlessly.
I didn't see the point in The Bride being buried alive. Wasn't Budd being an acomplice in her attempted murder enough of a catalyst to murder him? Seemed like a time filler, and besides, if it were to "test her strength", both physically and mentally, was this not already tested in the first movie, given everything she had to overcome?
2 was just a messy, messy movie. It jumped from having a little correlation with the first installment, to being an "Enough" like girl power ripoff, back to her exacting her revenge, then plunging into some baby drama, which was superbly sugar coated and sappy. Not typical Tarantino fare, by any means.
All of that coupled with one of the biggest letdowns of an ending to a franchise I have EVER seen, it just made for a really unusual, and boring viewing experiences. It was just a messy movie that just didn't stick, and would have been so much better had it been conglomorated, shaved down, and given an over all "hip" feel in lieu of the 2nd's tone of taking itself way too seriously.
I'd consider it one of the worse movies of the year, in which doing so, you can't even take "Kill Bill Volume 1" into consideration. They are two totally seperate movies, and this movie can't stand alone.
RaventheOnly
^that pretty much sums it up... but the parts about sliming the story down would not have helped either... it just plain sucked

Stormy Day
Dude your being really unfair with this movies. Its great. The story and the acting is great and it focused more on story between all these characters so we got to see what they where really like before she started killing em all.
I understand what the plot is I just think that before she started her death list it could have given us the wedding scene at the beginning of the second, but it just rushed in.
poshtotty1987
my fave movie so far would have 2 b The Day After Tomorrow'
Wort 'King Arthur'
Red Superfly
Van Helsing people, Van stinkin' Helsing.
MissesDepp?!
yes, van helsing indeed.. what has happened to our beloved vampires? THEN they killed vampires AND picked on the poor werewolves in 'Underworld'..psh.. lycans.. I know that that's short for lycanthropes or Werewolves but please the way Kate Beckinsale said it really pissed me off.. the best part of that movie was her outfit.. by far.
cal31
The Day After Tom. had to be the worst film I saw the whole summer. Besides the scenes of the storms ripping through the cities, there was nothing even remotely good about the film. The way they showed the whole story of Dennis Quaid(sp?) and his son, Jake whatever his name is, was just pathetic. At the end I wanted them both to die in the cold and I didn't really care what happened. What another surprise, another summer movie with action and no story, only this one was by far the worst of the summer for me.

Best:Kill Bill Vol.2,Spider-Man 2,HellBoy,I Robot,and The Village
Worst-Anchorman,Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen,Starsky and Hutch.
MissesDepp?!
If I ever see Ashton Kutcher leave MTV for the big screen again.. I will bomb his home.
Stormy Day
Why? this was by far the best performance of his career

SlipknoT
you forgot Dawn of the Dead
MissesDepp?!
it was the best of his career yes, which is sad because it means his career is unbelievably crappy and this was crap but it was.. bearable crap.
bardock
i thought he was great in butterfly effect
Stormy Day
He is,anybody that cant appreciate that just doesnt know movies
SlipKnoT,I havent seen the "Dawn of the Dead" remake yet

Cinemaddiction
Don't go as far to make such an ignorant blanketed statement such as that.
He's good in the movie, but Kutcher's overall performance isn't anything special, it's only noteworthy because he broke out of a stereotype.
Stormy Day
He was a good actor tho not just because he was doing something different.
BloomBabyGirl
its not that hard to act stupid like he does in al his other movies

bardock
so people just wont give him a chance
Stormy Day
I wasnt reffering to his other movies
SlipknoT
Yea, he really shined in Dude Where's my Car, and My Bosses Daughter
Cinemaddiction
Don't forget "Just Married" and the stoner in "Down To You".
He's not a great actor, however, "TBE" is a step up from his usual, and his breakout performance. Granted.
BloomBabyGirl
ha i loved just married. hes not a great actor. the butterfly effeect was good but i was itching to see him crack a joke or trip or somting
Stormy Day
I just dont know why people dont like Ashton Kutcher in TBE I mean you got to give him credit for his breaking out performance

.He's really not a bad actor he just doesnt pick the best roles

Primitive Screwhead #1
Good actors know the difference between good and bad roles.
Kutcher is going to continue having a hard time convincing people of his talents until he puts out a few more movies that do not feature him in his 70's show type persona. More reason for him to choose carefully in picking future roles.
Mr Zero
I think someone is perhaps mixing up "I think Ashton Kutcher is a great actor" with "Ashton Kutcher gives me confusing feelings down in my little bald sac"
Stormy Day
That one is perfect for you

MissesDepp?!
Ok, let's not get in on the gay jokes. Though Mr. Zero's comment was really funny, a respect-worthy come back doesn't include taking their diss and just saying it applies to them more than you..
"YOU'RE stupid"
"yeah, that's more like you."
no dice.
Ashton Kutcher did a GOOD JOB in TBE but in general he's not a good actor, he did BETTER in this, but he's still not a GOOD actor.
bardock
it wasnt that good
Primitive Screwhead #1
As of today, here's my top 5 best and worst:
1. Shrek 2
2. Spiderman 2
3. I, Robot
4. Bourne Supremacy
5. Collateral
Honorable Mention: Anchorman, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
-5. Fahrenheit 9/11 (just a one-sided political campaign... actors and directors need to stop with flaunting their political viewpoints. And Michael Moore is a complete ass-biscuit.)
-4. Van Helsing
-3. Highwaymen
-2. Troy
-1. Torque
Just not crappy enough: Secret Window, Passion of the Christ, Godsend
If I didn't see it, I didn't include it. Hence the reason crap like Catwoman isn't on my list.
Stormy Day
Its usually better to post things you know cant be used agaisnt you

BloomBabyGirl
secret window waz a big dissapointment
Primitive Screwhead #1
Stop causing trouble and stay on topic.
Stormy Day
I didnt throw the first blow

Primitive Screwhead #1
THAT'S a good reason for off-topic posts. "He started it! He started it!" How old are we?
Before I get accused of being a hypocrite, I need to add Jersey Girl to my Dishonorable Mention list. Now I'm back on topic.
BackFire
You haven't thrown a single blow at all. More like little girl slaps.
Anywho. I think AvP is one of the worse movies of the year.

They are practically related.

Best: Catwoman
Worst: The Village
Primitive Screwhead #1
And your favorite movie quote is the lame-ass "toad-lightning" theory from X-Men as well. Your obsession with Halle is clouding your better judgment.
Mr Parker
and your willingness to just accept and be satisfied with ANY spider-man movie is clouding your better judgement as well.

Really bad movie i swa this year is johnson family vaction.
SlipknoT
The Village wasnt that great but it takes a huge shit on Catwoman
Stormy Day
I like the "Catwoman" but its certainly not the best film of the year neither is "The Village" the worst :/

I kind of regret giving it as high as a rating that I did but I still like it for its cool CGI,and also too much talk about it being horrible that I kind of just walked away liking it looking at all the things that people where saying and just thinking its not as bad as all that.
