What is the saddest movie you've ever seen?
I vote for "My Life" - starring Michael Keaton and Nicole Kidman.
I cried for 6 years after seeing this movie...definitely the ULTIMATE tear-jerker.
Sabrea
evry movie is depressing if haydens not in it, no j/k...umm, id have to think bout this one, i dont usually watch depressing movies, although, evry single time i watch LAAH or MR i kno wats gonna happen in the end and i start crying a half an hour before the movie ends, lol...gimme a few min. and ill try to think bout this one
BackFire349
Requiem for a dream, one flew over the cuckoos nest, the elephant man, paths of glory.
Sabrea
err...i cant think of it, i kno ive seen movies more depressing than MR and LAAH, but i just cant think of one at the moment...this is really bothering me now, but im not really a big fan with depressing movies so that may be y i cant remember it...
BackFire349
whats MR and LAAH?
Pinky
God knows! She always uses this very idiot abbreviations.
Fire
abbreviations aren't idiot they're cool
Sabrea
MR is Moulin Rouge and LAAH is Life As A House...
BackFire349
moulin rouge looks like colorful trash, i havent seen life as a house. i doubt either of them can match requiem for a dream or one flew over the cuckoos nest or elephant man.
mechmoggy
A real depressing film is "Angela's Ashes", I didn't really like the bloody film but by the end I wanted to top myself.

Sabrea
the ending of MR was sad and so was the ending of LAAH
Ushgarak
But AA ends on a happy note, Mech!
Reqiuem certainbly has to be a very strong contender. Moulin Rougue is just an old-fashioned love tragedy- that is not a criticism of any sort but it is a bit run of the mill to be truly considered a pinnacle of depressing films, much as I like it.
Schindler's List, of course... despite it's triumph.
Thomas H
Dont kill me now...please...Black Hawk Down...I hated to see all those fine soldiers die, esspecially Ranfy Shughart and Gary Gordon!

Fire
ooh my god, well a sad movie that's been a while lemme think
BackFire349
platoon is the saddest of all the war movies, the only vietnam movie that really shows how it really was. that the americans werent really always the good guys.
Thomas H
hmm? dont understand..
BackFire349
he's trying to think of a sad movie because he think there hasnt been one for a while.
BackFire349
dead poets was pretty sad.
Fire
lol cool so is sophie's choice
Thomas H
Dead Poets, is very sad indeed, it is also great, Williams actes so good, I cant find words!
Fire
yea one of my favorit movies, tho good morning vietnam ain't bad either, funny as hell
mechmoggy
I know its a happy ending film but I still cry every time I watch Shawshank. The ending when he's fixing the boat on the shore and his mate walks up the beach to be reunited with him.....oh.....I'm filling up now........ just thinking about it..........

..........

ToMacco
That is a pretty good scene, mech.
I think Ush is right though; Schindler's List is not a happy movie. The darkest part about it is that it all really happened.
Fire
lol, well I didn't find that depressing what so ever, I found the whole movie hilarious but that's just me
BackFire349
it was bitter sweet.
Dexx
American beauty..yes another one of my top5...very good.
Not depressive though.
I can think of a depressing one. It was one 'bout drugs....with Jennifer conelly i think..yes. can't remember the anme though.
BackFire349
requiem for a dream. it probably is teh most depressing movie ever. it hits so incredibly hard.
Tex
Funny, I didn't find Requiem depressing at all.
I think everyone got what they deserved.
BackFire349
yeah, the music is incredible too.
Tex
I liked the 'eye' shots. Really amazing.
and Jennifer Connely was a total babe.
Dexx
Oh yes!!..that's the one.....i couldn't place my finger on it.
Anyway..the moovie's good..very hard indeed
J-ROC
The most depressing movies I've ever seen were-
Requiem for a Dream
We Were Soldiers
Fargo
Casino
American History X
and Harry and the Henderson's (I cried everytime when John Lithgow punches Harry...when i was a kid of course!)

Dexx
american history x was great..loved it. Eduard Norton is very good.
J-ROC
Ed Norton rules!

BackFire349
one flew over teh cuckoos nest and elephant man are up there with requiem.
Dexx
i remember lolita being pretty disturbing...probably cause i saw it long ago. But no way near requiem for a dream
Corran
Elephant man was pretty sad and the Boxer too.
Thomas H
as I said before, Black Hawk Down!
Dexx
that wasn't depressive at all. Barely touched by it
BackFire349
same here, as far as war movies go, the most depressing of all the war movies are platoon and paths of glory.
BackFire349
that was pretty good. not depressing though.
Fire
feelings are something u can hardly discuss or debat imo
if he thinks it's depressing it is to him
so well just leave it at that

Dexx
i saw film i've been touched by, but i don't consider them least bit depresive. Requiem for a dream changed the atmosphere of the whole day. It turned...gray.
BackFire349
yeah, exactly dexx, same with me, it put me in a funk for the rest of the day. ive watched it like 40 times now, it still affects me heavily and make me cry like a ***** with a skinned knee.
Dexx
every possible tear freeses
Dexx
vanylla sky was pretty desturbing too..not that much..but a very sick film
BackFire349
yeah that was pretty cool.
BackFire349
well when you've seen some of the movies i have you dont use the word 'sick' lightly.
Dexx
*looks at backfire's siggie*
*thinks at vanylla sky*
no, i'm pretty sure it's sick

BackFire349
not when compared to movies like cannibal holocaust, henry - portrait of a serial killer or i spit on your grave.
Dexx
this one was sick on a more ..hidden, sbtile way.
Gundark
The Elephant Man was the most depressing movie I ever saw.
Billy The Kid
agree on elephant man.
another one is Mississippi burning.
Thomas H
why is that sad, they was all busted, those moder****es (the KKK)
BackFire349
about time someone else mentions elephant man.
Corran
I can relate to elephant man, I mean I can relate to finding it sad.
BackFire349
i can relate to the elephant man cuz im ugly.
Billy The Kid
well..yeah....but it was sad untill they were busted
The KKK are so "stusselige" as we say in norway....dont know what that is in english though!
finti
Most depressing film you've seen
Schindlers list is definitely one of them
Gundark
Ah, come on BackFire.....you're not ugly. Maybe you need to change your signature....Leatherface (while a classic character of course) doesn't exactly give you a lot of self-esteem. And you know anybody who posts a pic here just gets some friendly teasing. Look how everybody picked on ToMacco's black socks....just a little fun. Nobody is gonna bash you if you don't look like a movie star. Which none of us do. Don't be so hard on yourself.
To comment additionally on Elephant Man...I think the fact that it was shot in black and white added to the dreariness and hopelessness of his life.
Dexx
yup, and leatherface's nice too....ergh..if u get used to it

Thomas H
indeed! a very sad movie!
BackFire349
what many of you fail to realize is, that sig is actually me.
Gundark
Ah, come on buddy.....Leatherface is one of kind. Like Michael Myers.
You don't have to post a pic if you don't want to, of course. But don't you dare let anybody tell you you're ugly. And don't even tell yourself that !! In the eyes of your Creator you're beautiful. And ultimately, thats all that matters.
If you believe in that...I mean, I do. I'm not trying to shove religion down your throat...okay ? Just trying to help ya out.

Dexx
and leather face is kewl

BackFire349
i actually tried to post a pic but it was too big and i don tknow how to make it smaller.
Gundark
Ah, can't help ya with that one. I suck at posting pics. If you e-mail it to Raz, he'll be glad to help you. Or probably yerssot.
Dexx
backfire just paste it in paint and cut some of it. Select only you, or your face....
BackFire349
ok i got it. its in general discussion. anyways, i still say requiem for a dream and cuckoos nest take the cake.
chico23
My pick was easy and it seems many agree its Requiem for a dream. I've said it before, I felt like someone had punched me in the gut after it was over. I think that film explains, or least in my case, the difference between sad and depressing. Yeah, I cry like a ***** with a skinned knee (like someone so fatasticlly put it) when I watch Savanah Smiles (No laughing please), but that's just sad. It could never put me in the funk Requiem did.
Just my Opinion.
BTW liked the reference to I Spit on Your Grave, backfire.
The tub scene could be the most depressing (Not to mention "sickest"

scene I've ever seen.
BackFire349
oh man, i spit on your grave. that movie isnt sad, its disturbing. but man its effective.
mechmoggy
I didn't think that much of I spit on your grave, Cannibal Holocaust was far more disturbing.
Rented out Requiem for a dream at the weekend to see what all the fuss was about, OMFG I was ready to top myself by the end. Good film though.
BackFire349
mech, you've seen cannibal holocaust? yeah thats a messed up one too. some of the effects are amazing
BackFire349
some other disturbing ones are henry-portrait of a serial killer and last house on the left.
chico23
Will someone enlighten me on this Cannibal holocaust. I've never heard of it. When was it made? Sounds like an interesting movie. Also, do you think its rentable?
BackFire349
you cant find it to rent. its not available in the states yet, it should be soon. its pretty much blair witch with some gore and stuff. its better then blair witch though. its really extreme.
mechmoggy
It was banned over here for years but was recently re-released. In the version I saw they still had to cut out big bits where they were killing that turtle thing. My mate told me that the original had a few extra scenes where they tortured the turtle and stuff. Sicko's.
The SFX are good for the age of the film and it was the original Blair Witch except they keep going back to present day where they are veiwing the tapes they found, edit out those bits and Bingo! you've got a better Blair Witch.
BackFire349
it hasnt really been re-released yet. grindhouse is still working on it. once they get it out it should be pretty easy to find. and yeah, the original turtle scene is disgusting. i saw the original un-edited version. its really sad but effective.
brownie
I was wondering, I was reading the posts and I went to look for that movie cannibal holocaust. I did happen to find the movie cannibal apocalypse, is that the same movie? The back of the DVD said it was an italian film that was banned in a few countries. If so, let me know if thats the same movie that will help both me and chico out.
BackFire349
no, its not the same, its a rip off. cannibal holocaust, was the first cannibal film, there have been alot of rip offs, the only other good one is cannibal ferox. but no, its not the same movie.
mechmoggy
I can rent a number of previously banned titles from my local video shop. They have usually got a generic "Vipco's Vaults of Horror" cover with the title of the film on, I believe there's quite a few out now.
I saw "Cannibal Holocaust" there the other day but I'd already seen that one so I rented out "City of the Living Dead" which I felt was a little lame to be previously banned until this poor chap was held down and a bloody great drill was put through his head. Great SFX for its day, you can see the whole thing quite clearly.
Did you know there was a Cannibal Holocaust II out Backfire, I've never seen it but I typed in that title on google cus I couldn't remember that "Vipco's etc etc" bit, I noticed one link mentioned a sequal.
Fire
I'll have to rent those
BackFire349
no, its fake. there was no cannibal holocaust 2, thats either cannnibal apocalypse which is such a similar name that people thought it was a sequal. or jungle holocaust which is another movie about cannibals by the same director, but its more action oriented. but there is not movie with the title cannibal holocaust 2. and if there is, its a fraud, city of the living dead was alright too. the scene where the dad drilled that kid in the head was cool. and the scene where the girl puked up all her organs was really cool. you should check out "The Beyond" and "Zombie" those are both done by the same director as city of the living dead, lucio fulci, but they're both better. and have some outstanding gore effects
BackFire349
you're lucky you have a video store that carries those, i had to see cannibal holocaust through my cousin who happened to own a pirated copy of the movie and he gave it to me.
