Which is it and why?

I'm actually tempted to say Inglourious Basterds, but I'll give it some time.

gobstakid777
I too am tempted to say IG
here i'll put in no order
Pulp Fiction,Kill Bill 1/2, and IG
Ig is my fav at the moment

Impediment
Reservoir Dogs. The ending is so awesome. I also love how sadistic Mr. Blonde is with officer Nash.

Pulp Fiction is a very, very close second, but only because of Samuel L. Jackson's final scene in the restaurant.

NemeBro
It honestly has to be Inglourious Basterds for me.

Impediment
I have yet to see IG. I'll be seeing IG this next weekend.

Bouboumaster
I'll see Inglorious Basterds this week.

But for now, it's Pulp Fiction. Reservoir Dogs is second, but Pulp Fiction is my favorite movie of all time. What a great film!

Altar[1stONE]
Reservoir Dogs for me, its got that essence of cool throughout the whole film, and its kinda a mans man movie. I almost voted for Kill Bill 2, because David Caradine was great as well as Mike Madsen.

WhoopeeDee
Not a very easy poll.

Of course IB is very fresh but....arggh!!! I don't want to choose. See, Kill Bill was a perfect blend mixture of genres that I love. Reservoir dogs and Jackie Brown were just cool and intriguing.

I think the honor goes to Pulp Fiction...pretty much everything was in it. After so many years of watching the film...I just never NEVER get bored with it. I love every dialogue. The performances are just soooo goooood...and I mean...come on Vince and Jules....

Yeah...Pulp Fiction...

T.M
Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Inglourious Basterds
Kill Bill vol. 2
Kill Bill vol. 1
Jackie Brown

Haven't seen Death Proof

The top two change place pretty much every week.. and I think IG will be doing that now too.

Mr. Rhythmic
"Pulp Fiction" is his only good film, imo.

MildPossession
Out of his directed work:

Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs - I know, so bla.
Kill Bill
Jackie Brown
Death Proof

Yet to see Inglourious Basterds.

AverageSavage
Pulp Fiction
Inglorious Basterds
Kill Bill vol. 1
Reservoir Dogs
Kill Bill vol. 2
Jackie Brown
Death Proof

Pulp Fiction being the best and Death Proof the worst

Myth
Pulp Fiction is an easy choice for me.

Robtard
Pulp Fiction, hands down.

Delivers from start to finish, great mixing with the sequences and it is exactly as it's name implies.

Steak Knife
PF for me as well. There were way too many memorable moments for it not to be my fave.

Alpha Centauri
Gotta be Pulp Fiction.

Perfect movie.

Pulp fiction---every aspect of the movie is flawless, to me

Kill Bill Vol. 1-----This movie bleeds aesthetic style. It is the best example that i can think of fusing eastern and western cinema. It's also just a lot of fun.

Death Proof------Other than the best lap dance captured on film i love the performances that Tarantino pulled out of the actresses. I know many people are put off by the monotonous and mundane dialogue. The dialogue is pretty mundane, even for Tarantino but i really enjoyed that because it didn't feel forced. Most movies have trouble accomplishing mundane dialogue because it usually comes off as feeling forced.

Reservoir Dogs-----The characters and actors should place this one higher on my list. When i think Tarantino Reservoir dogs comes to mind before Pulp Fiction, that says a lot.

Inglorious basterds----It was good, thats all i can really say about this one. I think it's his weakest movie but the performances he gets out of his actors are quite memorable.

Jackie Brown-----I really really like this movie. The dialogue and characters are balanced and intertwined especially well but there are a few points where the movie drags on. I really feel this movie could have been a half hour shorter. With that said, those slow parts are still entertaining even if they don't feel necessary

Kill Bill Vol 2.-----Not much i can say here. I like the movie but i was severely disappointed. The first half of the movie felt like empire strikes back and this half feels like, Phantom menace. I felt as though Tarantino struggled with this half. I'm still not even convinced that this half needs to exist.

wicker_man
I've never enjoyed any of Tarantinos' films, I've tried just can't get into 'em, closest I've got is his turn in From Dusk Till Dawn.

Quincy
Res Dogs and Kill Bill Volume 1 are my tops

Kovacs86
1) Pulp Fiction- one of my favourite films of all time. Quite possibly the coolest film ever made.

2) Reservoir Dogs- I'm always surprised at how much I enjoy this when I watch it. The characters and pacing may be weaker than Pulp Fiction, but it's the original Tarantino and had such an impact on cinema as a whole that it has to be remembered as a classic, and will be for a long time.

3) Jackie Brown- Maybe his most conventional film yet still very much a Tarantino film, though amazingly it's still a great adaptation of Elmore Leonard's book. Probably his most emotionally satisfying film.

4) Kill Bill: Vol. 2- Maybe it doesn't have the pace and endless action of Part 1, but the ending is perfect and surprisingly moving. Uma Thurman and David Carradine are superb.

5) Kill Bill: Vol 1- Amazingly enjoyable but ultimate maybe a bit too thin on plot. However, Uma Thurman is great and it's still one of my favourite pure-action films.

I've not seen Death Proof and unfortunately have yet to get round to seeing Inglourious Basterds, which I expect I'll love too.

I'd almost agree with this statement. Its close between Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown.

A collection of Tarantino interviews:

http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/08/25/votd-quentin-tarantino-on-charlie-rose/

Rogue Jedi
Quentin was involved in the making of Planet Terror, does that count?

SnakeEyes
I'd say no, since he just acted in it. It's not his film. He wrote the screenplay for True Romance and worked on the story for Natural Born Killers though, I'd consider those more acceptable Tarantino favorites.

Rogue Jedi
No, I mean he was like a guest director or something like that.

Kaibs
As far as fav films go from him the list is pretty straight forward.

1. Pulp Fiction. Jules alone did it for me. The movie just is overall greatness.

2. Jackie Brown. Another classic and great movie.

3. Reservoir Dogs. A great movie.

4. Inglorious Bastards. Pitt was brilliant in it.

5. Kill Bill I and II. I wasnt a huge fan to be honest. However I love that RZA scored for the film.

6. Death Proof. I was not a fan of Death Proof.

Quiero Mota
Definately Pulp Fiction.

That movie kicks ass in every aspect; from genius dialogue to the plot device (the briefcase). And the career's of the entire cast are alive because of that movie: Travolta and Willis were in serious slumps and everyone thought they were fading, and Jackson, Thurman and Ving Rhames were all basically unknown character actors until that movie came out.

Three scenes always make me laugh:

-When Vince and Jules are arguing about whether a foot-massage is cheating.

-Christopher Walken's speech about the gold watch.

-Tarantino's "Dead N*gger Storage" rant.

MildPossession
That was Sin City. He didn't direct any of Planet Terror.

He wrote the script and had a pretty big role in it. It's as much a Tarantino film as a Rodriguez one.

kaonoshi
Pulp Fiction, that might change when I finally see Inglorious Bastards.

dadudemon
Out of those listed:

1. Inglorious Bastards. The best Tarentino film to date. His masterpiece. One of my favorite movies of all time. In my top 10.

2. Pulp Fiction. Very good film. Not one of my top all time films, but still a very enjoyable film. Not a second time watcher for me, though.

3. Kill bill 1 and 2. Both good films. I watched the Kill Bill 2 film twice, but it still wasn't better than Pulp Fiction.

4. Jackie Brown. Enjoyable. Better than most films.

5. Resevoir dogs. Some parts in the film are great. Altogether, not a very good film. From the acting, to the prop mistakes, to the sound editing. I gave this movie a 5 out of 10.

6. Death Proof. Altogether, a shitty film. Only cool part was the major crash. Very cool. I give this is a 4 out of 10.

I am always off base here, with you guys. It's like I have different tastes in films than almost every one of you.

Myth
1. Pulp Fiction. Favorite movie of all time.

2. Inglorious Basterds. Hans Landa was such a huge surprise. One of my favorite bad guys of all time now.

3. Jackie Brown. I loved Sam Jackson and DeNiro in this. Great overall story too.

4. Kill Bill 1 & 2. When these first came out, I was absolutely in love with them. Each one offered something different, yet combined to be great. However, for whatever reason, it just didn't have the "staying power" for me. I felt like it was a top 5 movie for me when it was new, and now.... top 25 maybe. Not sure why it didn't have that staying power, it just didn't. It may have to do with the length. It was great when it was all new, but I never feel like watching a 4 hour movie that I've already seen before.

5. Reservoir Dogs. I really like this movie as well. I respect the movie a lot for how it helped boost the independent films, but I feel like it is at times overrated for what it did rather than for how it actually is (people do the same thing with Clerks).

6. Death Proof. The only thing that QT was truly the creator of that made me ask "really?" I liked it, and I loved the whole Grindhouse experience overall in theaters, but I didn't expect Death Proof to be the worst part of Grindhouse.

Very well said. I think this better captures my sentiments on it. Clerks as well. I watched Clerks, again, about a year ago. Sure, I Laughed pretty damn hard at a couple of parts because it had been years so it was almost new. But, I was rather unimpressed. I was more impressed with Clerks 2, but that still was barely above mediocre. Best part was the LoTR part.

beer Is there something wrong with me?
I found Jackie Brown really ****ing boring

Ladyluck
Gotta go with Pulp Fiction. I could watch that movie a million times and never get sick of it. Just an awesome movie.
I'm also a big fan of Death Proof. I thought it was really well done, and you have to love the cars and the stunts.
Of course, have to mention the dialogue in his movies, particularly Pulp Fiction. I just love it. It's so... funny, clever and pretty much irrelevant to the situations in the movie but... real, I guess? Pretty much conversations you'd actually have. It's quite refreshing. A serious problem that movies seem to have lately, aside from a number of things, is the lack of decent dialogue. No one can do it like Tarantino can.

I haven't seen Inglorious Basterds yet, but I'm going this week. I'm very excited, I hear great things all around about it, but I guess I didn't really expect anything less from him.

No. Jackie Brown is a rather slow paced movie, but it has incredible character development, in my opinion and, also, some great dialogue.

Death Proof, in my honest opinion, was just too slow and overdone. I was really disappointed with it.

Alpha-7
It has to be Reservoir Dogs. It is easily his best work, and I never tire of watching it.

Based on what you described about why you liked Pulp Fiction, you should love Inglorious Basterds.

Lonely Boy
Reservoir Dogs

TombSTONE4
Pulp Fiction. The rape scene with ving rhames bent over was delicious.

Reservoir Dogs

For what he directed:

Gotta be Jackie Brown for me.

Awesome dialogue, awesome performances for all cast members. I loved Jackie's and Max Cherry's characters. Deniro and Jackson could not have been more perfectly cast. Some people found the movie to be slow, but I found every second entertaining and significant. Awesome soundtrack. The opening scene is beautifull (The Graduate homage). I love Pump Fiction/Reservoir dogs... but Jackie Brown has heart -- it stands separate from the rest .

True Romance is my favorite work that he wrote. Wonderful movie.

Quincy
My favorite of all the Tarantino characters though is def Mr. Blonde

Ziggy22
Kill Bill vol. 1

i like them all really but if i had to pick on i would say pulp fiction :d

pulp fiction without a doubt. kill bill 1 and 2. ing basterds. i could never get into res dogs

Just saw Inglorious Basterds last night. I liked it, although I thought many scenes and even some characters were unnecessary. The movie was a bit too long, and the character development was lacking -- for a Tarantino film. Pitt was great, as was mostly everybody else. Some scenes were just straight out awesome, like the basement taven scene.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now I can rank his movies -- since I've seen them all:
1. Jackie Brown
2. Pulp Fiction
3. Reservoir Dogs
4. Inglorious Basterds
5. Kill Bill vol. 1
6. Death Proof
7. Kill Bill vol. 2

To be honest I don't know whether I thought Reservoir Dogs or Inglorious Basterds was better, it's a toss up.

Out of curiousity, which scenes from IB did you think were unnecessary?

Also, my problem with Tarantino has always been this - do his movies have substance? Sometimes I find themes/ideas/etc. worthy of chewing on and thinking about, but a lot of the time I just think that maybe his films are just really entertaining, like really well-written popcorn flicks (exluding Jackie Brown because it's been far too long since I've seen it/I don't remember it that well).

What are KMC's thoughts on this? Do QT's movies provide anything other than entertainment?

I thought that a lot of the scenes that were about the Jewish cinema owner (I forget her name) were unnecessary. Her relationship/romance with the projectionist (and the German war hero) were extremely anti-climatic and unnecessary. I wish the movie would have had more time devoted to developing the characters of The Bastards themselves. Of course, this is all my humble opinion.

As for your question about "substance"... IMO I think that both Kill Bill movies as well as Death Proof are nothing but "popcorn movies" ... that is why they are at the bottom of my list.

EDIT: To answer your question... no, I personally do not go to a Tarantino film and expect to see something with "substance". Tarantino's movies though, as you said, are well written, directed and etc.

I liked Kill Bill 1 and 2. Excellent story and acting. It's very rare that you see well-developed characterization of the villains.

Inglorious Basterds was a great movie too. The Nazi milk-drinking general stole the show. He was outstanding.

For me Pulp Fiction has everything......very racy...

DarthLazious
Its a tie between Inglorious Basterds and Pulp Fiction for me.

There can be only one: Pulp Fiction.

Tarantino wrote From Dusk Till Dawn.

1) Inglourious Basterds
2) Pulp Fiction
3) Reservoir Dogs
4) Kill Bill vol. 2
5) Kill Bill vol. 1
6) Jackie Brown
7) Death Proof

The second part of the film is fantastic, once the group of girls at the start are killed in the car crash, it gets much better from then on. But best film is pushing it.

Pulp Fiction ftw

Darth Martin
Finally saw Pulp Fiction. It was good but not great. All of the parts involving SLJ are GOLD but the rest is just "good". Inglourious Basterds was consistently great all the way through. Every character was great. In Pulp Fiction there was only SLJ and at times Travolta who stood out. Not sure what I'm missing but no way is this better than IB for me.

I will take it upon myself to try and see the rest of his work. As for right now, IB is clearly in the lead on my list;

1.IB
2.PF

Yep. I didn't mind the second group chatting away and it helped having that wonderful and bonkers Zoe Bell in, just couldn't stand the first group.
