Current Drogon would lose.
Smaug is bigger for now.

Smaug vaporizes him

Actually i was thinking more of a physical fight. I doubt dragonfire can harm themselves.

smaug is much more intelligent and much larger also; he flash fries all three let alone drogon

I think he can beat drogon. All three...not really.
quanchi112
So no one says Drogon wins. Smaug for the uncontested win.
Darkstorm Zero
Considering Smaug is both larger and more intelligent with fewer weaknesses than Drogon, I don't see how drogon could win. I'd say it's more even if it were Balaerion, but that;'s neither here nor there.

On a 1 to 1 battle yes.
Is this intel for our battle?
Hahahahaha

Hahahahaha I do agree Lotr has a superior dragon to GoT. This is the only movie/tv film universe comparable to Lotr. Harry Potter is a little different and they have too many wizards so it's more fun to compare these two since magic/sorcery is there it's just not as widespread.

Hmmmm. For now though. Cause give Drogon a couple of years and Smaug would lose.

There is no doubt of that. Balerion can DEFINETLY surpass Smaug in size. Once he does Smaug is on the losing side.

Smaug still has intelligence and we don't know about Balerion since we haven't seen him in action. There have been bigger dragons in Lotr lore but until we see them on the big screen we can't assume.
Smaug would scare the shit out of Westeros IMO.

Intelligence isnt of much help in a melee fight.
Smaug would die once Drogon is bigger.
Bigger teeth, bigger mouth, bigger wings, bigger tail, thicker scales.
Smaug would die.
No. Smaug would just be another dragon.

No. Smaug would just be another dragon. When you can fly and use battle tactics it definitely is an advantage.
Smaug like most Lotr characters are superior to the more realistic of the two universes. More durable, smarter, more dangerous, etc.

There is little tactic you can implement at open airs.
Smaug is smart but he is also proud. Pride would also work as a downfall for him.
Once Drogon is bigger Smaug will only have his intelligenxe to win.
The odds would go on Drogons side.
Drogon would most likely win.

Drogon would most likely win. Many different angles you can attack or you can retreat to swoop back in for another attack.
Drogon is less durable and hasn't impressed me. Smaug has the superior size as well. He has all the advantages.

I agreed to that.
We were talking about what would happen when Drogon surpasses him.

We were talking about what would happen when Drogon surpasses him. All we will have is season eight. So it doesn't look likely.
Rebel95
Smaug at this point in time. Keep in mind that Balerion the Dread was hundreds of years old, whereas Drogon is what? 5 years old? He could easily grow to be bigger than Balerion eventually. Whether or not we see him grow to full size in season 8 is uncertain, but still.
quanchi112
Season eight can't have that large of a time gap between these two seasons. That being said Smaug decimates this loser dragon asserting Lotr's dominance over GoT.
Utrigita
Smaug for the win.

You are falling out of context here!

Well, thats a separate debate but yeah... when you are the size of 3 Mount Everest sized volcanoes, you get to eat whatever you want.

Sooo yeah
The Mighty Ancalagon the Black!
Lets talk a bit about LoTR fire drakes shall we!?
First of all, LoTR Dragons are easily oversized by they destruction they cause when they "fall". Samething applies for Ancalagon which ISNT the size of the Everest nor bigger than Thangorodrim's mountains.
Let me explain. Tolkien likes to be very Poetic when writting. When he said that Ancalagon's fall broke Thangorodrim it must NOT be taken literally. Instead, Tolkien actually meant that by the Time Anacalagon died, the destruction left was enough to devastate the Mountains.
A similar thing happened with Smaug. In the books it is said that Smaug's fall destroyed the entire Lake town (Full on the town he fell. His last throes splintered it to sparks and gledes), but this DOESNT mean that Smaug was the size of Lake Town; he was much more smaller!
Another thing that disclaims Ancalagon's size is that he had to fit in Angband. So, its for sure he wasnt the size of a mountain or bigger than Thangorodrim's.
Now am not saying he isnt bigger than Balerion! But the size of Everest is a mass exaggeration.
Josh_Alexander
Nice to have you back DarkStorm Zero.
Also remember guys that Balerion was the Largest Targaryen Dragon. Not the largest Dragon Over All.

Drogon 10 years from now devours Smaug. You already agreed Smaug is far greater than Drogon. Case closed. It's a wrap. Quit speculating. I go by facts not what ifs.

Drogon can easily outsize Smaug in 10 years! We won't see Drogon in ten years so who cares. Smaug is more durable and smarter than this bum.

Smaug is bigger, stronger, more durable, and far more intelligent. He wins for sure.
omgchos
On top of the size difference, and the fact that smaug has a diamond waistcoat. I was always under the impression that smaugs fire was a alot more powerful. His fire is said to be able to melt nigh indestructible rings of power. We know aegon used dragon fire to melt stone, and the theory is it was used to make valyrian steel. But for all we know dragon fire cant melt the steel but just went into its construction. All in all to many points in smaugs favor.
Edit: I know i came in late i just wanted to say my piece lol.
