I know they're essentially the same canon character but I was watching X: Apocalypse the other day and Fassbender seems to be more powerful. The most impressive feat from McKellen was moving the Golden Gate Bridge whereas Fassbender had the stadium feat, the submarine feat and affecting the entire planet? Is Fassbender Magneto more powerful than McKellen Magneto?
ShadowFyre
The planet was due to Apocalypse amp though.
Scoobless
Apoc was just unlocking what was already there.... right?

He stated that he had the potential the whole time
Mckellen as strong as he was pales in comparison to his younger self

Yes, the timeline changed in DOFP to make it possible for Fassbender Mags to become vastly more powerful than McKellen Mags ever was.
TheVaultDweller
^^ Yeah, DoFP means that stuff from the original trilogy basically all became non-cannon. So, you can have Jean Grey alive when Logan comes back to his future self, characters like Angel, Colossus being born an entire generation earlier, Mags meeting Apoc etc.

Fassbender wins a fight, Ian is sexier.
Pretty simple, ppl.

I don't see how he was unlocking what was already there as opposed to amping.
He quite clearly amped Xaviers powers too. If we're not saying this was power augmentation it means Xavier is now a planetary level telepath even without Cerebro.
ShadowFyre
The point is, without Apocalypse being there and doing that, McKellen won't be able to do that. As soon as he turned on Apocalypse he definitely wasn't bringing any earth destroying power to bear. Not even close.

Apocalypse himself told Magneto he already hsd the potential. He just had to realize it. Everyone else he visibly amped.
ShadowFyre
Then how come as soon soon as he turned on Apocalypse the best he could muster was a stream of metal? How come his earth destroying power suddenly vanished?
Granted, that stream of metal was unrelenting, and powerful in its own right but a far cry from lifting a bridge or a stadium.
I personally think McKellen wins but some of y'all are over hyping him when he clearly wasn't able to do that before Apocalypse showed up. Whether it's an amp or potential, without Apocalypse he is not capable of it.

Fassbender was the one empowered by Apocalypse.
I think older Magneto might have quicker reflexes though.

I know in First Class at the end Magneto sort of deflects a bullet shot at him and it hits Charles...but in the first X-Men movie there is there part where Magneto is using his powers on a gun and he has it to a cops head and he is fast enough to pull the trigger and yet stop the bullet before it kills the guy.
He'd need to react quite quickly to do that.

Probably the same reason Wonder Womans speed seems to disappear when fighting Steppenwolf. Lazy/forgetful writing. Trying to save a bit of money on effects. PIS.
He still had his shields when he turned on Apoc iirc, so that would suggest he still had access to his new found abilities.

Unless he was controlling the bullet the entire time.
