Post war Japan is at its lowest point when a new crisis emerges in the form of a giant monster, baptized in the horrific power of the atomic bomb.

Caught this last night, was a very good classic-style Godzilla movie. Godzilla was where he belongs, crushing Tokyo and Japanese people.

The special effects where interesting, at times it looked like the old school models, maybe it was. I really enjoyed that, took me back to my childhood.

What about if I don't really give a shit about Godzilla movies generally? Would I still enjoy this?

I thought it was great. Easily one of the best Godzilla films.

This isn't like the American Godzilla films.

If you enjoyed the older Japanese Godzilla films from the 50s-60s, you will enjoy this.

You need to trick Leech into thinking Vin Diesel is in it.

And that it uses CGI made on Windows 95.

Otherwise, he won't care one bit.

Nothing can stop Vinzilla when he sets his sights on you and the only thing that can make Vinzilla betray his family, is family.

This looks good. I'm sold.

Nah, if you told me Willem Dafoe is in it I'd rush out immediately.

Was it better than WB's MonsterVerse movies?

Estacado
The Godzilla scenes are all cool but there arent many (about 8-10 minutes). The characters are kinda relatable unlike most the WB human characters.

The movie could have used more Godzilla but their budget was pretty low (15 mill) so I guess they maxed out what they could.

Overall its a good movie.

It was better than most WB movies yes.

StiltmanFTW
8-10 minutes? sad

I see, I see. Thanks.

Kazenji
Seems to be about on par with his screentime from his first film.

ShadowFyre
The fact of this movie cost $125 million less than Godzilla versus Kong is insane.

I see, I see. Thanks. In the older Godzilla films, it was common for Godzilla to have a screen time of 10 mins or so.

One thing I liked about Godzilla (2014), Godzilla had 9:30 of showings, which was a shoutout to the old films.

thumb up

2014 was absoulte garbage though....

The Way they kept teasing the fights just to shut them down right when they started was awful.

Also the only good character died 30 minutes into the movie.

This movie is pretty good but it is nowhere near as good as some reviews say.

ares834
2014 was good and -1 was great.

Anyone who disagrees is a retard with such shit taste that they probably enjoy Bleach.

FalconPaunch!
I did an essay about Gojira (1954) back in my film studies course at University and I said pretty much the same thing in a seminar that I'm just going to write about it being the atomic radiation turning the Komodo Dragon into a giant monster that breathes atomic breath to destroy old Japan, and is defeated by Japan's new post-ww2 technology.

About a fortnight later when we all received our grades, one of the lecturers said she couldn't believe how many people picked Godzilla out of all the Japanese films they talked about, so I think I may have had some influence there. laughing out loud

This movie is kicking ass. Usually I respect opinions of others but if you don't like this you are just wrong.

People who didn't enjoy this are probably terrorist supporters and pickle lovers.

The movie was great, When the iconic music kicks in thumb up

also the human characters were better then most of the Legendary pictures Godzilla movies.

jaden_2.0
Saw this tonight. Glad the cinema was quite full and that it's being well supported.

The human aspect was a lesson on how to do characters in a Godzilla movie you actually care about although Koichi was a bit of a whiney manlet at times.

Almost all the destruction scenes are in the trailer but I have to say, the wrecking of Tokyo was fantastic. Same with the first boat attack.

Phenomenal what they did on such a tiny budget.

Very much enjoyed it. Not quite the masterpiece some are hailing it as but still excellent.

Kazenji
The movie is getting an exclusive Black & White re-release in Japan

Surprised no thread for this...

finally watched

nit enough of Godzilla for me and the story being told could've been better

Bashar Teg
What really bugged me was Godzilla's exaggerated buoyancy in the ocean. I understand that Godzilla's Thicc as a big bowl of oatmeal, but too much of his bulk was above the water surface to be believable.
It did have a more classic godzilla ending, with the sympathetic respectful saluting. Shin Godzilla is still the greatest

Got around to seeing this last night, was very good. Excellent human element and the destruction scenes and effects were great especially for its budget.

I wanted to watch this the other day, but my file didn't have subtitles and I figured that would be a problem.
