RDJ will be Doctor Victor Von Doom!
ares834
So the rumors were true. I'm not at all a fan. It seems very likely he's going to be some evil variant of Iron Man rather than a proper Doom.
Kazenji
Wouldn't surprise me if its just a Dr Doom variant and the real one appears later on.
ares834
Sounds like massive cope. It seems that RDoomJ will be the be the main villain of an Avengers film. Maybe we'll get a "proper" Doom years later, but he'll always be in the shadow of the first.
Darth Thor
Kinda makes sense. The Iron Legion in Multiverse of Madness could basically be Doombots.
At least this way Doom wont be blowing heads up with his mind. And the focus of his threat will be on his genius.
Also this would have been a much better reveal at the end of the FF film. Have his mask on for the film. Then Have Doom take his mask off in a post credit scene. But whatever.
Galan007
Hope to god this doesn't turn out to be a Stark variant that just went rogue and started calling himself "Doctor Doom" for the lulz -- Doom should be his own independent character, imo.
Although If Chris Evans can be Captain America and Human Torch within the canon MCU, then I suppose it sets a precedent that RDJ can be Stark and Doom as well.
Nuke Nixon
Hang on, wasn't Kang originally a Stark variant or a future version or something, could they have not replaced the Johnathon Majors Kang with RDJ and gave Doom to someone that could actually make him awesome?

I'm thinking a Stark Variant. But his name was always Victor Von Doom.

rdj cold be the real Doom or a variant as I've heard rumors for both,,,
seeing him as Doom though won't shit on his legacy as Stark, IMO
I'll trust Feige and the Russos though

STFU with your flaming. Either contribute or GTFO.
playa1258
Yeah hoping it's not Tony variant.
StiltmanFTW
Esposito is playing a z-lister in Cap 4

Robtard
If they wanted to reuse an actor for Doom, then Mads Mikkelsen would have been a better choice. What a shame.
I really hope RDJ isn't reprising his Stark role in any form with this and we never see Doom's face. I'm fine with RDJ playing Doom as a proper Victor Von Doom.

this should be 3 hours of fun

I don't think this is a case of reusing an actor for the sake of it. I think it's more a case of the Russo's vision for Doctor Doom being an evil Stark variant.

If true, that's hot garbage and lazy then. I'm sick of the multiverse and I am sick of "variants".

Galan rode Mads' dick first on KMC. You're late to the party, Rob.
But yeah, I agree, Mads as Victor would be pure win.

I'm pretty sure he somehow got that Mads' dick riding from me.
StiltmanFTW
mmm
I wouldn't be surprised. Galan is like Chameleon sometimes.
Have you seen Another Round from 2020?
Robtard
Saw it back in 2020, maybe 2021, Good film.
Slowpoke
i don't think it's a good idea. RDJ is not a good choice for Doom and it's even more difficult to get over with his Iron Man image.
Also the previous 2 movie version handled Doom very poorly.

But Doom should be handed better since he's a great villain.

Will be handled better than the last 3 movies is my point.
Anyway seems like RDJ and Russos are getting paid stupid money for these next two Avenger films. Not sure their price tag is worth it tbh.
Even with Russos, I feel like they should get fresh directors in.
ares834
RDJ will put butts in seats. I may not be the biggest fan of him as Doom, but having him return and play the villain will definitely play well the GA.
Anyway, I'm hoping he uses magic. Even if he is a Stark variant (and let's be real, he will be) he better use magic.

Dunno. Think theyd prefer him back as TS/IM tbh. (Im guessing even as a TS variant he will be playing Doom very differently).
For what its worth im seeing memes going around absolutely ripping this news (and not from comic book nerds)

That happened a lot later in comics. He had no magic during Secret Wars.
That said wouldnt be difficult to add that in with the way the MCU has built up magic. And would make him a much greater threat in a direct fight. Could make him too much for the FF to deal with though.

Depends on which Secret Wars story that they're adapting or using for the film.

They said their fav comic book arc growing up as kids, so I'm guessing the classic one.
But with creative changes to the big screen, they're entitled to mix and match and adapt and what not.
ares834
You're not wrong. The bigger issue was never the villain, but that the new heroes just aren't compelling and their stories are generally awful.

I don't know or really care if he didn't have magic back then. Doom has been a sorcerer for decades now. He's been a sorcerer for longer than I've been alive (since at least 1989 and potentially earlier). The fusion of magic and tech is a large part of what makes him a compelling character and really helps differentiate him from all the other super geniuses.

While I never read it, I've only heard poor things about the original. By contrast, I thought the new one was very good. Hopefully they take more inspiration from that.

What are the chances that Doom ripped Tony's face off for himself?

Has it really been that long? I thought it was like 1999. Jeez.
And yeah agree he is better mastering magic as well as science.

You got it the other way round.
Hickman is pretty pathetic.
ares834
Hickman is great. His Avengers was merely good, but his FF was excellent.

^That probably came off as a joke, but I wasn't joking, read on Screenrant:
"Finally, a June 2024 Deadline report brought news that the Avengers 5 cast could feature more than 60 characters, which would make it a story of truly epic proportions. While this could present some potential narrative issues in terms of ensuring the wide range of figures brought into the film are paid off over the course of its runtime, this considerable roster would help the next Avengers movie after Avengers: Endgame live up to its predecessor, and could well prove exactly what the franchise needed."

I've read it, It ok i'd give it a 6 or a 7/10 but the newer one is better.
i've heard Secret Wars 2 is alot worst.

^ No Spider-Man either. Looks like (outside of RDJ) Chris Hemsworth is the biggest star in this one.
Hopefully Marsden gets a proper shot at Cyclops.
Glad Loki is in it. Assuming he's the one from the series.

My friend sent me a video of Marvel hyping the production for this, with the names on the back of chairs and then Robert Downey at the end.
Meh. Marvel needs to get their head out of their ass.
Robtard
Problem with this, it looks like they're going multiverse of a multiverse of another multiverse yet again and just throwing in everyone. It worked for Deadpool & Wolverine, which was at its core goofy fun, not sure about this one.
