Ok in ESB (cinema version ) a woman played the empror later it was changed to a man ! can someoe tell me why ?

Because the Emperor is a guy...

It was effectively played by a man- Clive Revill did the voice and got the credit (and noted that because of that few minutes' work he still receives fan male about it decades on).

I seem to remember that a woman's face and a chimpanzee (or some similar arrangement) were combined to make the original image shown. But basically, the Emperor was always played by a guy.

He was supposed to be male anyway.

Why use a women in the first place? Did Lucas or Kershner pick up some bum off the street or something?

I always liked the original Emperor in the ESB hologram, much more haunting, and a bit more spirtual. I still think McDiarmid did a great job in ROTJ, and never found the difference between those two actors any problem when I watched the OT for years.

I find the new ESB Emperor (McDiarmid) in the SE, a bit cheesy, and I just don't know what it is, but so much shit that Lucas did in the PT and SE just come off as cheesy. The worst is the new song (Jedi Rocks) added in ROTJ in Jabbas palace, that just takes you right out of the movie!

Definately, the SE was bad...

I think the original ESB emperor had a more haunting quality to him... For some reason McDiarmid gave his least impressive performance in the new ESB as Emperor...

The SE Emperor is the same in all six films !! Anyway before he talks what does vader stand on ? its a round thing which lights up and makes a sound too .

It's a nice little stage, with lights and makes sound too.

Basically. Plus, I'm guessing that the Emperor was watching Vader's hologram on his end of things. That likely put Vader in the spotlight for the hologram to be made...or something.

I think it's more likely that it is a major hologram projector or something.

That's pretty big.

I'd rather call the Emperor a little girl...or tell him his face looks like my nut sack...

I didn't have a problem with the Emperor in the original ESB, but I like continuity so I prefer Ian in the SE.

Yea i know its weird...sometimes they sit there and start screaming "power...unlimited power!" and start shooting...well nevermind...

There's a couple things I like better about Clive, but Ian is just the man, and he IS the emperor, so it flows...

Yup... except for that odd growling after his face ws melted. That was.... obscure.

I was rather creeped out about that.

All of his expressions and "moans" during that battle...hissing and shit...creepy indeed.

No, I know. I was just saying that all his faces and noises he was making during the fight were creepy and odd.

Very strange that... Didn't like it very much. He didn't do any of that in ROTJ.

his pimp hand was way strong in ROTJ...he didnt need too. But in ROTS, Mace's pimp hand was stronger.

I was just watching ESB SE on tv and i saw the old Empiror !!! . but everyting else was the same ! is this another change by GL ?

No. He was a poser. The real one died during ROTJ post-production.

He looked creepy all the time, it didn't make much difference to me.

Nah I saw that too, Cool Movies, they were the '97 SE versions...
(so many annoying things in that, Jedi Rocks, Monkey Emporer, Crap Jabba in ANH etc)

ITV should show the DVD version instead.
