the offense has evolved from run it up the gut to creative draws and tosses and sweeps and reverses, but my question is could the likes of marion motley, duane thomas, tony dorsett, eric dickerson, walter payton, roger craig, earl campbell, or bronco Ngurski compete with the rudi johnson's or egerrin james, or adrian peterson's of today?

i'm going to be honest i think that running over someone has been around since the stone age, so powerbacks probably are and always will be the same, but the skill backs have evolved to a fifth or fourth option as a reciever, there are just too many ways to use a skill back in this league where they can't be a real threat

A lot of these could just be discussion topics in the NFL thread. No need for new threads every time.

And yes, they could. Strength may be boosted some by current training techniques and steroids/supplements/etc. but speed, vision, and agility remain the same.

Everyone remembers the 85 Bears, but Payton dragged some sh*tty Bears teams in the 70s and 80s to about 1,800 yards a year. Kid was truckin' even without a good team. He'd play, start, and excel in today's league.
