Hey guys.

Someone asked today in another thread why there was no official "Quantum Of Solace" thread. I had never noticed this glaring oversight before, and so decided to create the thread myself (albeit, I'm cutting it a little close by doing so on opening day stick out tongue ).

Feel free to post your reviews of/thoughts on "QOS" here. I myself will hopefully be seeing the film tonight, and can't wait big grin ; I know it'd be wrong of me to feel a little smug satisfaction that the UK are getting to see this a full two weeks ahead of the States, but ... I can't help it, sorry stick out tongue . After all, you guys get across the pond get to see pretty much every other major film before us Brits do ...

Let's hope that "QOS" can maintain the high standards set by "Casino Royale"; well, we'll know in just a few hours ...

Apparently the script is rubbish and nowhere near as good as Casino Royale, most reviews have been disappointed by the film... and also the two Bond girls are nothing memorable like Eva Green's Bond girl...

Be seeing it next week sometime.

~Wĺlshy~
i skipped work to see it today. laughing out loud

i thought it was awesome, great action in it! maybe it can be a little confusing though. mmm

out of 10...8.5 mhmm

after reading the first line I thought the movie sucked... after reading your claim the new girls are nothing as memorable as Vesper I realised we're definitly on another page...

Ushgarak
It's ok.

Very downbeat for a Bond film; very sllick but felt a bit disjointed; the girls are fine but you don't care that much for the General's subplot, and in the end you feel that not very much has been gained by the end of the film, which is fine for making more sequels but hurts QoS as its own product.

So... yeah, it was ok. CR was betetr though.

Mr Shindiggery
Just saw it today was very impressed by it not as good as Casino Royale imo but still I would call it one of the better Bond movies in the series. Craig was awesome as Bond and imo is up there with Connery, hopefully though in the next movie they have him turn on the charm more as in this movie he was very downbeat but that was for a reason which was all fine and all. Villain was very impressed by he was imposing and the final fight between him and Bond was great. The Bond girls I did not mind too much, Agent Fields I thought was a good tribute to the more older Bond girls in particular Diana Rigg. But alas she did not have that much screentime. Talking of tributes watch out for one later on in the movie you will know when you will see it and its quite clever. The other Bond girl was alright and made a good opposite for Bond in this movie with her whole revenge plot, not as good as Eva Green as Vesper but still okay. It seems they have set in motion some hints at the movies going back to what people expect a typical Bond movie should be and I think they can easily make many sequels to this movie with the potential they have with the organisation mentioned in this movie.

Overall it was very good imo not as good as CR but still one of the best movies to enter the Bond series I give it...

8/10

MildPossession
Not my claim, that's what I was saying the reviews said, not me.

Jovan
then the reviewer is clearly not on par wink

MildPossession
I like the actresses that are playing the Bond girls, though the Olga one I hope has brushed up on her acting skills because she isn't the most strong of actresses from the two main films I've seen her in. Gemma whatshername is fine from everything I've seen her in.

Don't look as memorable as Vesper though from everything I've seen. Vesper was just perfect.

Well ... I had a feeling I'd be saying this (based the film's advance word), but sadly, "Quantum Of Solace" doesn't quite live up its predecessor. But, when you consider that "Casino Royale" was probably the best Bond film to come out in ten years, that isn't necessarily a huge failing.

Overall, I very much enjoyed "QOS" - despite being surprisingly dark and downbeat in places, I still felt it was a very strong and worthy addition to the franchise. The action scenes are fun and well-executed (though there isn't one that stands out in the same way that, say, the free running sequence in "CR" did), and I'm certainly intrigued by the still very much untapped potential of the SPECTRE-esque Quantum organisation, whom I'm fairly sure (and hopeful) will feature more prominently in subsequent Bond outings. And, while the acting on the whole is very good, I was particularly impressed by Daniel Craig's portrayal of a ruthlessly efficient, almost haunted 007; he definitely proves that "CR" wasn't just a fluke, and I feel that he could very well be the best Bond since Connery (which is no mean feat).

I suppose that "QOS" is quite an unusual film in that it's more of a conclusion to "CR" than a stand alone Bond movie in it's own right. Let's hope that Bond 23 starts to re-introduce some of the Bond elements that have (understandably) been left out since "Die Another Day" - namely Q, Moneypenny ... and some gadgets would be nice as well smile .

MildPossession
I don't think you will see them again at all in the bond future. I believe they have finished with all that.

Ahnold
Really? Did the producers say that? 'Cos "Quantum Of Solace" definitely leaves room open for the Quantum organisation to return in the future. And why not? Remember that SPECTRE featured in six of the first seven Bond movies ...

Ahnold
Or did you mean Q, Moneypenny, and/or the gadgets? Because I'd be extremely surprised if they've dispensed with them for good ...

MildPossession
I meant the Q, Moneypenny, silly gadgets part lol.

Ahnold
I wouldn't bet on not seeing those elements again any time soon ...

Ushgarak
I don't see why not. mild. 'Q' is a product of From Russia with Love, which is what they are trying to get back to.

There's been no room or role for them so far but they can be re-invented like anything else. Q's suitcase in FRWL was integral to the plot; they just need that sort of angle instead of it just being silly gadgets (which I agree we won;'t see, with any luck).

MildPossession
That's just what I read from the people who work on it, they might change their mind though.

Jovan
on the other hand, they could have given a small nod to Q already in in casino royal... he thanks M for the car (I think); he could have thanked Q.
small thing though, not important

Lord Melkor
Just saw it, very nice movie, and I like Bond`s character development.

I had impresion that Dominic was just one of Quantum members, and this definately set things for sequels. Mr White escaped, didn`t he, and he was the one Bond was after.

Darth Martin
I'm going in with low expectations and I will treat this as a third act to Casino Royale and not a whole seperate movie.

Myth
I was really really disappointed in this new Bond film. It was a decent action movie, but it just didn't feel like a Bond film. I expected it to not be as good as Casino Royale, but this was probably one of my least favorite Bond films, because it didn't have much signature Bond moments. Quote wise, they implied the "Shaken, not stirred" but didn't actually say it, and that was just about the only thing. Craig had a little charm with the ladies, but it still wasn't there. The action was decent, but lacked the suspense that Royale had. The bad guys just weren't menacing or intriguing enough compared to previous bad guys. The ending fight was also terrible. You knew the whole place was going to blow up when the bad guys had that horrible random dialog that lets us know in advance that it will blow up (you know, when they said "sounds unstable" referring to the energy cells that power the facility). So what ignites the explosions? A car ramming through the parking area door. That was ridiculous. So they build the facility in a way that a car hitting it blows it up? Yeah, that is totally believable. If they are going to make something unbelievable, make it more intricate than that at least.

Ok, rant over.

Fallen
i refuse to read any reviews.

just commenting that i have plans to see the film tomorrow... hopefully.

Quantum of Solace is easily in the my Top 5 as the Bond series goes. Probably 2nd on my list. All thanks to Daniel Craig who is now the best Bond in my book. If I compared this to Casino Royale I would say their tie but if I would had to choose I'd say Casino Royale was slightly better. The action as one of the film's main strong points. It's biggest obviously being Craig.

Things I loved about the film.
-Daniel Craig! He carried the film and is best bond in my mind. Most Fleming.
-Smart direction on Forster's part aside from the editing. Man had a vision.
-Big thumbs up to Dench and wright for their roles as M and Leiter. Hope they return.
-Not too long.
-Loads of action. But not dumb Brosnan action, good action. Especially when Craig actually DOES the stunts.

However this film was far from perfect indeed.

-Wasn't a fan of the "Bourne Supremacy" style fast editing. But I could still make out what was happening, except how exactly Bond got rid of the last boat.
-Thought the opening titles was crap overall.
-Hated the subtitles for the locations.
-How Bond survived he plane fight was a bit unrealistic. But hey it's Bond.

But these were my only gripes about the film.

As for your complaint of the "Bond moments" I don't think you have to say the line in every movie. There are films where there are no Q. Moneypenny is nice but not required. Again these films(Craig era) are smart and for the new generation and I don't think its so bad that they are distancing themselves from the formula a bit. I men if you want to go with the formula look at where that got the Brosnan films.

I love where there taking the franchise and look forward to seeing Bond 23.

Things I want to see in Bond 23.
-Daniel Craig
-Martin Campbell directing, David Arnold composing.
-More of "Quantum" and Mr. White.
-More Judi Dench and Jeffrey Wright.
-More Aston Martin DBS V12(best Bond car IMO)
-Opening gunbarrel.
-If goes w/ plot Q and Moneypenny. stick out tongue

Robtard
Was a great film; not quite as good as Casino Royale, though. IMO, they put way too much action that was too close together and not enough intrigue and plot development that Casino Royale balanced nicely.

Craig is definitely my favourite Bond of all time, does such a good role as the suave yet viciously lethal British agent. I hope he's 007 for at least another 3 films. As above, I do look forward to the next installment.

SpaceMonkey
This movie was a huge disappointment to me, and I wasn't even expecting much.

=Tired Hiker=
I was a bit disappointed. I watched Casino Royale again right before going to see Quantum Of Solace just to get in the mood. I thought Quantum's plot was a bit simple and boring, the acting was great, but the writing, some of the direction, and especially the editing annoyed me. There were some great edits, but there were also some really bad and unnecessary edits that took me out of the film, whereas everything about Casino Royal was perfect.

Darth Martin
I would like for Martin Campbell to return to the director's seat but have to admit Forster brought some things that couldn't be achieved otherwise. Like the "Opera scene" for example.

=Tired Hiker=
Oh, and was there ever even a part in the film where Bond used a machine gun with a silencer as was shown in every trailer and movie poster for Quantum Of Solace???

SelinaAndBruce
I have been a fan of the Bond series for years, I even find something to enjoy in the crappy ones but I had my doubts about the reboot of the series trying to update and make Bond more realistic. Where it worked in Casino Royale (not completely to my satisfaction as it was a great movie but I still think it lacked some of the charm that many associate with Bond) I have been hearing really bad things about this one and I am skeptical about seeing it in theaters.

Mairuzu
Nothing to say that hasn't already been said. Good film, CR was better.

I liked it, my GF loved it......no expression

CR was better, but I still enjoyed QOS a lot

Thought the plot was a bit confusing (didnt catch the part about why he was looking for Vespa's ex boyfriend to start with?) and the secret society thing wasn't really elaborated on, all these important elite figures part of a grand scheme, yet Bond only goes for Greene.

I love how Craig is a bit of a beefcake Bond, capable of knocking down 3 agents in less than 10 second, wouldn't work with Brosnan or anyone else.

Oh, and where was the line 'Bond, James Bond'? Was hoping to hear that at some point, but no.

Overall, sweet movie, awesome action, plot was wonky though. Wonder how they'll top it for the next one.

Spartan005
does anyone know how bond found vesper's boyfriend at the end or am I the only one confused about that. and correct me if I'm wrong but he faked his own kidnapping, so mr white literally had nothing to do with vesper's death?

and was Mathis a double agent or not? At the end of Casino Royale M says "Well this proves that Mathis is innocent" but they still tortured him and what not. kind of confused about that.

First off I have to say that i am a big bond fan,but I would have to give this movie a big fat zero out of ten, it sucked.
There was no humor in it at all. no martini shaken not stirred, no bond, james bond. none of the one liners. They should of and could of gone with a new story without continuing 20min after casino royale.
The chase scenes were way to close and shakey, made me dizzy and couldn't tell who was who. and the editing and jumping back and forth between the horse race and the chace and the opera and the gun fight was just stupid, don't try to be so artistic. They couldn't even come up with a different way to kill Fields, drench her in oil and put her on the bed just like Jill Masterson in Goldfinger, i mean come on it was the same scene even her pose on the bed, just stupid. and you give an agent the name fields and don't even put a joke in??? I was expecting M or Felix to phone bond, and he says that he is just in the field or something like that. This is one of the worst bonds, right there with licence to kill and the world is not enough.

Darth Martin
sad On the contrary I thought this was the second best behind Casino Royale, and also I think LTK is a great Bond movie. Different tastes I guess.

M said "well this proves Mathis was innocent", but Bond was sceptical and says it only proves that Vesper was in on it, not that Mathis was innocent - It could have been a "double-blind", where neither Vesper or Mathis knew that the other was in on it.

In a nutshell - just because they found out Vesper was selling them out didn't neccesarily mean Mathis was innocent. And yes, Mathis was actually tortured until they eventually found out he was innocent, he wasn't kidding around. And Bond left him to be tortured and Mathis keeps referring to that. Before he dies, he asks Bond not to leave him, alluding to the forementioned.

D-Wag
Yea I was somewhat disappointed with Quantum Solace, it seemed like they just through a bunch of shyt together and said there's the movie. Casino Royale in my opinion was better than this new bond flick.

Sith Master X
Just came back from seeing the movie. All I can say is...wow. I was totally let down by this one in almost every way possible, which is a shame considering how much I loved Casino Royale. Now I wont fly off the deep end and call the movie "terrible...sucked" and all that garbage. It just didn't do anything for me. I thought the pacing was slow...it was utterly confusing. The action scenes were good...yes, but actions scenes aren't what I'm after in a movie.

Above all, this just didn't really feel like a Jame Bond movie...and maybe thats why I didn't like it. It seems to me like they are turning 007 into a bad guy almost...obviously he isn't, but I'm not so sure that I'm really digging the darker side of Bond. The ending as well seemed pretty abrupt and didn't really feel like anything was concluded.

Although this is really minor and not a major deal...or perhaps I just didn't pay good enough attention, but where was the "Bond, Jame Bond" line? I don't recall hearing that once, and thats tradition for crying out loud.

Darth Macabre
Perhaps this movie would have been better suited as being filmed with Casino Royale and being released last year, while they filmed 23 to be released next November. To me, it just seemed like a midquel story, that had no real conclusion and just continued Casino Royale.

As for the movie itself, though, I enjoyed it, even with it having too much of a Jason Bourne film. I liked Greene, I liked White, and I love Quantam; I hope they keep the later two in future films. Daniel Craig was great, and Judi Dench was fantastic. Overall, I'd give this film an 8 as a movie, but only a 5 as a James Bond film.

Hi there,
The new James Bond movie .i.e " Quantum Of Solace " is remarkable doing well in the box office of all over the world.as well as becoming favorites of most viewers. The Domestic Total as of Dec. 9, 2008 is $152,720,716. just imagine the popularity of this movie. Many people in this forums we not satisfied with the movie. they were expecting similar to the previous Bond movie "Casino Royal ". But this movie is much better then the earlier one. While both movies have remarkably done well in box office.

The main problem QOS has: Where's the beef?
I fail to see a storyline in this as nothing is lost or gained at the end of the movie... I wonder what took Paul Haggis so long to polish the script as the emphasis is on action and definitly not on any story.

LordPrydon
I have not seen this latest Bond film as of the present time of writing. Is it worth seeing? Is it better than Casino Royale which I rented but was overall not that impressed by.

Jovan
No. No story at all. Not worth any spending. If you're all about brainless action and lousy storytelling: than yes.

LordPrydon
Defintely not. Thank you for the wise counsel. I prefer my movies to have some point to them.

I consider QOS to be #2 on my list of Bond films. #1 is Casino Royale, so if you didn't like that one not surew if you'll like this one. I think of it as a continuation, not a sequel.

barand1
It's definitely a continuation to Casino Royale. I watched Quantum again last night and although I like the movie very much it is slightly weaker when compared to CR and that's mainly due to an unclear story and not enough emphasis on the villain. I think Bond works just as well as the movie's villain, if that makes sense. At some points in the movie you're left wondering what and who Bond is after, whereas in Casino Royale it was always clear that Le Chiffre was the target. The only other thing I think made the film suffer was it's editing. I don't think there was a shot that lasted more than 5 seconds. It was very flash, sharp, straight cuts and very difficult to watch at some points.

Hopefully the producers and writers know what went wrong with QoS and will make sure less complaints are made next time round. Can't wait!

coolmovies
I just rented this and i loved it its the best bond movie ever

Am I missing something, why people saying this movie sucked? Was a damn good movie and I like the fact he's out for revenge.

In Quantum you start with revenge and in the end he's got that but has gained absolutely no new information on the organization. Even worse, they're talking about moving to a new storyline without Quantum!
