REVAMPED SUPERMAN RESPECT THREAD

Simple bio:
Superman was created in 1938 by Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel. Superman is sent to earth when he was a toddler from the planet Krypton. He has many powers such Super Strength, Heat vision, Super Speed etc.

Something like that. I've seen it argued in several different ways, such as Zod and Superman hit each other hard enough to crumble away a planet. Honestly, this arc was so full of symbolism that it's tough to tell what Azzarello intended.

Well besides that he did survive a severe brain hemorrhage in Action # 775 without ill effect and in another instance fought on without a heart (I believe it was the Emperor Joker arc).

He is normally so durable he doesn't need that high a healing factor these were exceptional circumstances, especially the Superman # 657, so a separate sub section would be ok just because he's shown a great capacity to cope on those rare occasions when he's sustained grievous injury. Or maybe call this one damage soak.

A great healing example was in that Superman/Batman arc where the bullet goes through his hand, but the hole is already gone by the time Batman says something.

I don't have a scan but I really like that one...

Kurt Busiek also had some healing showings. Given further thought, I can probabaly come close to a dozen examples. Might be worth adding in, Kgkg. I'll see what I can do about scans.

some of his best feats are missing, like breaking through reality in his fight with earth-2 superman, moving a planetoid by himself, and surviving the suneater

It seems that pre-Crisis with post-Crisis continuity have merged, but it doesn't mean we should start using feats from Pre-Crisis Superman. Not yet anyway.

But as long as stories that happened in Pre-Crisis continuity are remembered by current Superman or in a situation like this one, imo, feats are still applicable. Similar to how many things introduced in the Byrne era have been retconned, but many events during that period are still in continuity.

Also even DCAU superman wouldn't get enough energy from the sun to perform his superfeats. The solar abttery theory has never made sence.

During the Critical Condition arc when Steel is inside Superman, he comments on the "reactor" that converts solar energy into usable power.

I don't remember exactly how he words it, but he pretty much proves that Supes is more than just a battery.

"Solar Battery" was always seen, by me at least, of a layman's definition of superman's powers... i've never taken it to be that literal, tbh...

Three feats from Superman: Beyond should be in here.

1). Apparently Superman's origin story is so incredibly moving and powerful, it can create a competing narrative with which to combat absolute nothingness (I'm still not even entirely sure what it means, but it sounds unbelievably incredible).

2). Superman is literally the living embodiment of the concept of the Superhero, and the "idea" of him is even more powerful than any of his constituent super-powers.

3). Superman showing that the Monitors were misinformed. Apparently, Multiverse-level beings that can destroy universes with a thought are not the only individuals that can bottle or carry bleed; Superman can.

None of that was precrisis the entire universes were rebooted with their entire histories generated,otherwise people who casually travel time all the time would have noticed that shit hit the fan 20 years earlier,waverider had to go to the linear mens headquarters to find out about the crisis,hal had to go directly into the timestream ect ect.

kryptonite and magic are pretty lame and out dated, imo him using his actual personal energy store as a weapon of last resort would be a better weakness. it's more heroic and more logical imo.

I agree. I think something that should be introduced is a weakness to Positron weapons. If his Bio electrical aura works like a Plasma force field, which i presume it does as this is the only kind of electromagnetic field one can generate that repulses all kinds of matter (charged and un charged), then it should be susceptible to anti matter positrons. Seeing how advanced most the civilization are in the D.C. universe its not that hard to believe that they can create positron weapons.

If his Bio electrical aura works like a Plasma force field, which i presume it does as this is the only kind of electromagnetic field one can generate that repulses all kinds of matter (charged and un charged), then it should be susceptible to anti matter positrons. Seeing how advanced most the civilization are in the D.C. universe its not that hard to believe that they can create positron weapons.

Granted, it wasn't just a simple planet moving feat. Starbreaker was pushing Earth out of orbit and they not only had to pull the weight of the earth back but they also had to pull against Starbreaker's force.

God knows how much more difficult that is than just "simply" moving a planet.

So I heard it was a PC feat from supes, so it wouldn't be canon to current supes...there was some confusion over it. Although it's a very subjective feat, either Hal was using his will combined with supes strength to move the planet or either Hal used his will maintain the construct while supes strength alone moved the planet.

JLA #30. I should add that Superman's peak speed is determined by the writer, so while McDuffie may see Superman as capable of FTL, it's not quite consistent across the board.

Not really, its Star Breaker doing all the hard work, he's the "moving" the planet out of orbit, Hal and Superman are just pulling its back to its orbital state of equilibrium. They therefore have gravity helping them.

Its quite funny that in the same arc, Duffie stated that Dianna is faster in hand to hand combat as well.

No not really because by the time they had got out there and started doing something it was already well out of orbit,they were pulling against a planet mover who while moving the planet could take on the justice league and the closer the planet got to the sun the stronger starbreaker gets,its a legit planet moving feat.

Pretty good feat, but nothing to go crazy for. From feats, we already knew Supermn was FTL (though this does shut up some idiots who still didn't believe it). Nice to know Superman can use IMP's aswell, and destroying a moon coming at that speed (who's up for some calculations ?) is impressive, but getting knocked down in the process is stupid.
