I think it's become a fad to not like Keanu Reeves. Does they guy have a whole lot of range in his acting skills? No, not really. But give the guy a break. He pulls off some amazing physicality and now that he knows all the martial arts stuff from the Matrix films, he's probably not a bad fit for a film like this. This probably isn't striving for Oscar nods, but just a fun visual feast. And will it bomb? Yeah, probably, heh. But that doesn't mean it can't be decent.

Looks cool!

Keanu was pretty good in Man of Tai Chi. He's a huge fan of old school MA films. He has respect for the genre.

Don't know why everyone is so against Reeves. He's actually a decent actor. I'm not sure that i would have cast him for this role but it looks like he'll do fine. I imagine this would be a hard role to cast. Reeves has shown he can be a good solemn actor which is what i think people equate him to being to often and he also has the physical capabilities to not need a stand in.

Agreed, the hate Reeves receives is typical of this generations need to mock.

Most people in my age bracket love the guy. And after Man of Tai Chi and this film, I believe people will start to see the man doing what he loves....which is kung fu films.

The Matrix sequels went over most peoples heads, and that was to be expected. As a lover of the Ghost in the Shell series and other Cyberpunk themed anime I understand why such films left people scratching their heads.

Never understood the hatred for Keanu apart from his acting ability. Despite having one pretty shit time of it he gives most of his earnings from his work away. He supposedly gave away nearly all his $80m from the matrix trilogy to the effects team cos he recognised that they were the people who made the film a success, not him. Made a load of them millionaires. Top bloke.

That being said this film looks all style and no substance.

It was a good start. And very old school.

Not everyone's taste but I liked it.

Movie looks like Conan remake level shit.

Has the ass-feel of Sucker Punch and The Man with the Iron Fist.

True the SFX truly do cheapen such a genre.

So many HK cinema classics have had such horrendous sequels/remakes recently.

Chinese Ghost Story, Storm Riders ect.
It's sad to see the Chinese go down the path of film making that reminds me of Mortal Kombat but without any of the fun factor.

Professional critics sometimes remind me of internet goons who want to seem cooler by hating something vehemently instead of enjoying it holistically. The fact that Black Guy in a Fat Suit Sequel Eight Billion Madea's Christmas ranked marginally higher at 20% tells me that the critics aren't the best barometer of enjoyability for films. Hobbit 2, which is the most disappointing Tolkien movie since Ralph's animated series, ranked much higher, and atrocity to mankind Lone Ranger ranked 31% (That was a horrible film which went on forever).

Grain of salt folks. In any case I plan to see it today so if it is indeed crap I'll let you know.

I will see this at 3:40 and give you my professional opinion my ardent followers.

Agreed. Yeah, that is a pretty significant difference. It could still be enjoyable. The Lone Ranger deserved a much lower rating.

Very solid film. It wasn't the action dominated film many thought it would be. Really about duty and honor. Enjoyable story and I would definitely recommend it.

Absolutely terrible movie and I actually got bored in the middle. Keanu Reeves didn't fit in, felt stale and unoriginal, terrible character development.

Fighting and effects were awesome though.

I trust ares more so yeah, sounds good.

I didn't get a chance to see this since dinner took longer than expected. Hopefully tomorrow. Duty and honor are good themes.

Henry Sanada should have been in every scene

Reeves is okay in the role..

its not a half bad film but can only recommend if you like Reeves or Samurai films... 6/10 rating
