Michael Stackpole, the author of numerous Star Wars novels, was at the Barnes and Nobles Bookstore at Oakview in Omaha, Nebraska on October 5. He was signing books. I am lucky enough to live in Omaha and to be able to see Anakin's pod at the SAC Museum and now to have a book signed by Michael Stackpole. Below is a scan of the page in my book he signed. Notice, we have the same first names smile .

You and Mr. stackpole seem to have something there.smile

yodaadoy9
lol

Ratcat
No fair, I want one. I have to say I do enjoy Mr. Stackpoles writing style for Star wars very much having read I Jedi, Dark Tide 1 and just beginning Dark Tide 2.

I think I may have to go back an read the Rogue Squadron books now. Does anyone else think he may have played a little X-Wing Alliance or any of it's predessors? His desritions of the inflight goings on during any space battle just sound so much like he's playing it out on his PC before writing it.

yodaadoy9
yeah. Well, that is a good thing. He's pulling all the aspects of Star Wars together so all of the information about ship flights is the same and there isn't any confusion.

Ratcat
Oh, I know, it's great. That's probably why I find him one of the easiest to read.

yodaadoy9
yeah

Xizor
Stackpole keeps it simple, which I enjoy. His books focus less on bizarre new aspects to the universe and instead stick to Lucsa's plotlines, with an emphasis an the characters, something that readers can relate to better since everyone both loves and relates to the OT characters. This is why Stackpole is one of my favorite authors.

yodaadoy9
I agree. I don't like reading books that have nothing to do with the Original movies.

Admiral Kettch
Stackpole rarely uses OT characters, though. He had to in DT, but all of his other stories revovle around very minor OT characters, or EU characters.

yodaadoy9
yes, but most of the locations are from the movies

Admiral Kettch
Sorry, don't agree with that either. Yavin IV and a very small part with Tattooine are probably the only locations from the movies that he has used. Everything else was created in the EU.

yodaadoy9
Coruscant, the Senate. Those were used. he has references to Kashyyk (sp?) which has a strong relation with Chewie.

Admiral Kettch
Coruscant was an EU creation. And Kashyyyk has never been used in a movie.

yodaadoy9
Coruscant was not an EU creation. They just gave it a name. In the movies it was just know as the capital or the central system. I know Kashyyyk was not in the movies, but, at least for me, reminds me of Chewie. I'm not saying that he uses exactly the same thing, but he builds off of it. Someone wonders about Chewie and wants to learn more, such as where he came from. A book with Kashyyyk in it would be a good place to go.

Admiral Kettch
Perhaps Lucas had that idea in his head, but there is no mention of a capital planet in the OT.
