This is not a versus battle, but more of a question that has been on my mind for a little while. The conflict of the thread; is power set vs mindset, and abilities.

Is the Sentry another take on Superman, or is he another take on Adam Warlock?

At his start he was Superman, over time they began to make him more different iirc

Yes, the creators intended him to be Marvels Superman, but he got more powers later on, somewhat like PC Superman.

But he had a duality from the start as well correct?

Sentry is 1 to 1 based on the character "Marvelman", who was created by Mick Anglo. Later on Alan Moore took over and made Marvelman "famous". Alan Moores story "inspired" Paul Jenkins to create the Sentry. And by "inspired" I actually mean STEAL the idea straight up.

Marvelman is nowdays known as Miracleman, because back in the day there were some copyright issues regarding the name "Marvelman", since that character was a straight up copy form DC's Captain Marvel, who was a copy of Superman.

So it went like: Superman > Captain Marvel > Miracleman > Sentry

Sentry has three similarities to Superman:

1. His symbol is "S",
2. He has a dog named Watchdog (Krypto) and a Watchtower (Fortress of Solitude),
3. At the beginning Sentry was receiving his powers from the Sun, just like Superman (later on we found out that the Sentry is capable of absorbing all different kinds of energy to empower himself).

Sentry however has much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much more similarties with Miracleman:

1. Boths origin start with them being retired superheroes, who can't remember a thing anymore... When they start remembering their past, their start transforming back to their alter egos,

2. Both remember that something bad happened to them in the past and that a great evil is coming back to destroy them (for Miracleman it's Kid Miracleman, his former sidekick and for Sentry it's the Void),

3. Both of their enemies are dark figures in the dark, with lightning and tendrils surrounding them and they both go after the wives of the Miracleman and Sentry,

4. Sentry's and Kid Miraclemans death are also very similar, but it's too long of a story to explain it.

So, what tells us all of this? Sentry is not a Superman ripoff at all. Few similarties don't make him one, because he is power set wise, personality wise, mind set wise, origin wise and so on totally different.

However I'm not saying that Sentry is an original character. He is not. He is a straight up ripoff from Miracleman, even though I personally dislike the term "ripoff", but here it's kinda justified.

Insane Titan
Sentry was based off Superman , then became much lamer.

Sentry has all of Superman abilities plus interest. The guy can do anything once he puts his mind to it.
