Post Hickman Starbrand fought off the avatars of 3 universal abstracts. He wins.

Defeating the avatars doesn't mean defeating the abstracts.

True but the abstracts were hellbent on killing Starbrand and pumping their avatars full of power (shown on panel).

This is actually one MAIN feature of the Starbrand. Death means nothing to a wielder. Not even nullification can stop their rebirth.
