Infamous

Impediment
I looked for an existing thread, but I didn't find one, Peach and GK.

I downloaded the demo this weekend from the PSN, and I was actually pleasantly surprised at how much fun this is. The demo is over 30 minutes long, and offers a wide array of game play.

inFamous, a sandbox video game, is the story of Cole McGrath, a bike messenger given an assignment to deliver a package that is secretly a bomb. Cole survives the massive explosion and develops electricity-based powers. Soon, Cole discovers that his city has fallen into chaos under the rule of gangs and factions and must fight back against them to restore order. The game allows players to choose what path they would like to follow. Players taking on more good deeds will receive more helpful and exact powers while those who do bad deeds will have more destructive powers.

Has anyone else played this demo? I'll definitely be buying this when it releases this month.

Smasandian
I didn't realize there was a demo.

I'll try it out considering I heard good things about it.

Impediment
Here is some game play footage with commentary:

The game looks like a lot of fun but i'm still wondering how much the game actually has to offer. Looks like a PS3 update and answer to Xboxs' Crackdown. I'm just hoping for some morality consequences and rewards as well as a fairly deep leveling system. The combat controls look very responsive and intuitive.

So, whats your verdict on the demo, Imped? How are the controls and did the demo live up to your expectations?

Impediment
The controls are actually pretty smooth. I enjoyed how the movement of Cole just flows along. Honestly, I had never even heard of this game until I stumbled upon it while reading the Game Informer article while taking a shit. Then I looked for the demo, and was blown away.

Nemesis X
The game will be out tomorrow but I'm gonna buy Prototype first. This game looks like a lot of fun. I think I'll be evil first when I get it.

Magee
There is one thing I like about this game, its actually challenging. I couldn't glide through the the demo in five minutes and it took me ages to get past protecting that crate. The environment is great as it feels like you can interact with every thing however the timing of the release is bad since prototype is out in a few weeks. They are similar games and prototype, in my opinion would be more enjoyable as it's more violent and seems to have the edge in variety / gameplay judging from trailers.

Most definately. Prototype is indeed more enjoyable. Radical Entertainment is the same team who worked on Ultimate Destruction and who wouldn't like that game? Prototype is Ultimate Destuction but gory and more fun. Yes, the timing is bad for inFamous to be released when Prototype is nearly out but oh well. If gamers are into intense nonstop violent action, they should buy Prototype first. I think Radical Entertainment has Sucker Punch beat.

Smasandian
How do you know Prototype is more enjoyable than InFamous when it hasn't been released, and no demo?

UD sucked. the destruction part was fun the escorting little girls and time attacks was out of character and not as fun.

You'd be surprised on how much crap you can find on YouTube, no joke.

Smasandian
What does YouTube have to do with anything?

Have you played the game? No, so you can't find it more enjoyable. A couple of game videos does not give you that.

What a dumbass.

Edit Anyways I plan on getting this game sometime this summer.

Main reason for saying Prototype is better than inFamous:

inFamous is a PS3 exclusive.... and god forbid if a PS3 exclusive is any good

...so fanboys keep going. no expression

I really can't wait for this game. I'm downloading the demo right now. will have to wait another 4 weeks to get the game (I'm broke this month)

Prototype does look sweet though, I'll be getting that one for 360

leonheartmm
ive actuallly been on to this game for a LONG time. oh, how i wish i had the gadgetry necessary to play this. sigh.......................... it looks REALLY awesome.

Quincy
Going to go pick up my reserved copy today at Gamestop. Comes with an extra power "Some lightning sword or something" and the Beta for the Uncharted 2 multiplayer stoned

Zack, calling me a dumbass is stupid of you. Now go back to fooling around with your donkeys while playing Final Fantasy.

Prototype beats InFamous because it looks more fun. I'm not saying InFamous isn't fun (it's actually 95% close to being as fun as Prototype) but from I've seen in both games, Prototype is the highest on the fun chart.

Prototype has a better story. Alex wakes up in a morgue before getting dissected by scientists and notices that he has amnesia and super powers. He must use his powers to find out who he is, who gave him the powers and kill them. This story seems better than a delivery boy caught in an explosion and having electrical powers.

The superpowers are more awesome in Prototype than InFamous. Alex can absorb his enemies and take their appearence. He can use the appearence to sneak into military bases and stuff. Alex can lift tanks and throw them. Alex can grow blades and slice and dice people. Alex can grow impenetrable armor. Alex can run up buildings. All I've seen Cole doing is shooting electricity out of his hands, gliding, and draining energy out of people.

Alex can hijack a tank and a black hawk. Do you see Cole driving anything like that? No.

I really love this game, a 9.5 in my book

Anyway, this is one of the reasons I am getting a PS3.

Dude, Nemesis. Don't you see? That's how they want you to react. Stop raging/letting them provoke you and just shrug it off. Let it go already. erm

At any rate, yeah. This game looks like it will own indeed. Thinking about getting it (if I end up getting a PS3, which I've considered for awhile, but still not 100% sure yet), along with Dead Rising 2.

your point being?

If you mean comparing PS3 exclusives, whenever a good PS3 exclusive comes out, 360 fanboys rip it apart just for being a PS3 game, when they haven't even played it

All I'm saying is you can't compare both just yet based on a youtube video. They both look great... but so did Assasin's Creed

Haze did suck btw

leonheartmm
it looks better and more serious than prototype. albeit slower. but it has better mechanics to counteract. plus, i think the protagonist's powers are much more cooler and technical as well as the backstory.

Smasandian
I heard that the story is really good in this game.

I might pick it up, or just wait till it come down in price.

I've heard no word on DR2 being on the PS3 I still thought it was going to be an Xbox exclusive like the first one was.............until it was ported to Wii.

Quincy
This game is sweet.

Controlling Cole is easy, they did a great job with that. His movements are smooth, and it really is alot of fun.

Using electricity is sweet, since you can snipe across rooftops with bolts, and rapid fire into crowds to shock the hell out of people. They really did a great job with this game. It reminds me of uncharted.

As for climbing things, you can pretty much grab anything. When trying to escape from enemies, I pretty much just jumped at the closest building, and you'll be able to pull yourself up and climb and shimmy and all that jazz. Like Assassin's Creed, but smoother, faster, and easier to control.

You can heal yourself by sucking the electricity out of a variety of things, like Cars, Phonebooths, all kinds of things. You can get behind cover, and fire bolts while shielded. I actually have alot of fun with the bolts, since you can fire them off even when shimmying across a wire.

Needless to say I'm excited to go home and play some more.

X-Play instantly gave this game a 5 out of 5. Seriously, they just started the review and one second later they just gave the score. They never done that before. This game must be really good. I hope they give the same response to Prototype.

If I like Prototype then I like Prototype. Just because I think it's more fun than InFamous doesn't give you (or anyone) the right to argue with me about it.

You don't have a PS3? I sometimes thought you did. Lucky for me I have both a PS3 and 360.

When you think about it, Prototype and InFamous are kinda similar.

jalek moye
not really, they have similar graphic styles, but thats about it

Quincy
They are similar in that they are Sandbox superhero games yeah.

Phanteros
yay new genre. Thanks crackdown.

SaTsuJiN
So what can you do in this game, besides shoot lightning orbs?
cuz thats all I've seen in every video lol
(I mean what is in your arsenal of superhero powers)

Smasandian
There's a few things like like grenades, melee, shockwaves, and this tidal wave thingy.

But from the demo, the missions were pretty cool. You had move this train, so I climbed on an apartment, glided over, started the train by moving the cars with a shockwave, then with my electricity started the train.

Over the course of the mission, it stopped a few times so I had to recharge breakers. It sounds dull, but guys are firing from everywhere, you can jump on the wall, shoot the guys, jump back on the train. I guess you have to play it.

The running around and moving on buildings and such is very reminiscent of Assassins Creed, but it seems the story and missions are going to be alot better.

Quincy

You have an arsenal of melee attacks supercharged with electricity.

For offensive weapons, that I know of, you can blast lightning orbs, shoot a charged lightning blast, like a snipe, fire off arc lightning (like Palpatine) throw sticky lightning grenades, harness the electricity into a blade, also when falling from high up, or just plain jumping, you can charge electricity and when you hit the ground, explode into a shockwave in a circle around you.

As for non offensive, You can use an electric shield, glide on lightning arcs, use a type of electronic data perception to see where electrical outposts are, where you can recharge. When you take down people, you can either A.) Suck the life out of them to heal yourself and powers, heal them, or restrain them with like an electric shackle.

The action is pretty fast paced.

YodaIam
Been playing the demo, will be getting this.

Impediment
I just picked up inFamous today. I'm really enjoying the game, so far. I've decided to do all good and heroic actions the first go around, then I'll be the bad guy the next time I play through the story.

You don't start out with any of the powers you experienced in the demo. You have to do unlock certain abilities as you progress in the game.

Neo Darkhalen
Well looks like a sequel is already planned, what a surprise, I really wish developers would stop jumping the gun.

Impediment
I hear that the endings (good and bad) leave it open for a sequel, as well. I'm barely 3 hours into the game, though, so I wouldn't know.

Phanteros
i think the ending is the same for both. developers do that for sequals so they don't have to create 2 openings.( but then again they could be like The suffering and do such)

YodaIam
Powers along the way? Sounds good, with the demo I like to just to fight in the city, such explosive battles make for some good fun.

Impediment
I've cleared the entire Neon District of The Reapers! This game is so much fun!

I can't wait to see what happens when I play as a villain the next go around.

Anon E. Mous
Is there going to be a 360 version of this? Or is it exclusive to PS3?

:cross fingers: <------------------- Lol not a smilie.

YodaIam
PS3 Exclusive.

i have a theory about infamous.

**************SPOILER ALERT*************************

we all know that keslar is cole from an alternate future. we also know that he ativated the ray sphere to create a "champion of light" to beat his nemesis, who is seen as this dark pale, blak and red fire weilding guy who destroyes everything the future cole loved, hence forcing him to use his powers to time travel and shape his past self into a warrior capable of taking down that nemesis. well, im thinking, based on evil/infamous cole's appearance and red and black lightening, that future cole's nemesis is ALSO cole, only one who chose to become evil an selfish and let his powers mutate to the red and black lightening/fire.

btw, is any1 even sure what KESLAR'S powers were?

leonheartmm
btw, infamous RAPES prototype.

Burning thought
Ok so ive played Prototype and enjoyed it a lot, so now ime wondering what powers you get in Infamous because if its better than Prototype ill prob get it. Playing through Proto I feel I have a ton of powers and moves to choose from, are there many in infamous ,I get the feeling there are only a handfull because people seem to talk abouta few major ones solely as if their the only ones, like lightning bolt, storm, grenades.

You just get electricity as a power however you learn new ways to use it.

Well i gathered that, what I meant is that how many new ways are there? in prototype theres what, 6/7 weapons if you count normal fists, each has like 10/20 upgrades in the form of diffrent abilities and powers, that are not just +damage/range but also techniques and ways to use the weapons.

Does Infamous have an impressive list of abilities that I can use? or is it more centered around a couple of specific ones with many uses?

Impediment

Electric shots (like bullets)
Precision shots (for sniping, etc)
Train rail and power line grinding (for quick travel)
Thunder Drop (jump to the ground and make a small explosion)
Electric grenade (timed electric balls that explode, and can stick to targets.)
Shockwave (for clearing debris or moving big groups of enemies/people.)
Electric Hover (lets you float slowly downward in the air.)
Electric shield (for those pesky bullet attacks.)

.........and there are still more abilities that I haven't unlocked yet! All of these abilities have progressive levels of strength that can be unlocked by using your experience points.

Burning thought
klkl, ill probably get the game simply because it looks fun and theres a lot of good things said about it, how repetitive is it? do you find your doing a lot of the same things again and again like Prototype?

Somewhat repetitive, but very fun, in that you get to choose your path of righteousness or infamy.

Although this multiple choice just seems that, good or bad...you never seem to be able to mix and match with multiple choice, it's always either one extreme or another.

Since you bought them at the same time, how do you feel about the two games? Is there one that you like more than the other? Gripes about them?

Burning thought
Ive not played Infamous but looking at it, it doesnt look like it gives you as much weapon variety, ability variety/content and ive not seen Cole get into a vehicle either....

k1Lla441
played it today, seems pretty cool. Graphics are pretty good, minor hiccups here and there. Combat was probably the best part, destroying and flinging cars around made me feel superior smile

Doctor-Alvis
I played the demo but, from how my friend described it, you have all but a few of the powers after the first level of the demo. Granted, if those missing powers are as spectacular as the lightning thing it might be fun to go for them, but as a player who likes to go for upgrades and unlocks, I thought it diminished the value to have almost everything handed to you in the demo.

Impediment
I just started a new game as a villain. I've already finished the game as Hero, now I plan to do the same as infamous. It's really neat to see how people react to you as a villain.

I plan to try and get all the trophies, but it's going to be a pain in the ass to try and collect all of the blast shards and dead drops.

you dont start out with those powers in the game that you had in the demo

Correct. You start out with none of the powers you had in the demo.

That's half the fun, if you ask me: Acquiring all of your powers.

I watched Sling Blade last Saturday.

Buying this soon after repeatedly playing the demo.

Completed Prototype and frankly so far I can decide what gameplay I enjoy most. When i get it properly I'll be able to make a decision I imagine

Smasandian
Great game.

There was a slight dull in the middle of the game (too many conduit missions), but the last 10 were amazing.

Great sidequests, not repetitive at all (Ubisoft Montreal pay attention!) and a good story to boot.

I'm disappointed about not meeting the TV guy. Oh well.

Can't wait till the sequel.

I see. That's like 80% of the fun for me. And you get most of them in the demo? It cheapens the accomplishment for me.

Ryo 666
Only got 3 more missions left. I was going to do all the side missions and level up my powers completely but if I do that I'll just get bored and lose interest in the good side. Guess I'll just go on there when I feel like being a dick and level up over time.

Know it does take to long to get your gliding power.

Well, give them credit, they need to sell the game and a demo of the game with no powers usually doesn't do that.

It was quick taste of what to expect.

NemeBro
I'm getting a PS3 soon, so I will pick this game up.

True, but how much was unlocked? When I checked the upgrade screen on the demo everything but a few skills seemed to be unlocked.

Smasandian
Most of it was unlocked.

But the demo is 30 minutes at the most and the missions in the demo are tough if you just started to play.

If they give you a mission for a demo from the start of the game, it's not exciting and gives away the first story part of the game. If they give no powers but an exciting, tough mission then people get frustrated. It's a fine balance but the demo did what it was suppose to do.
