Why do we seek moral absolutes?

Moral absolutism is only really prevalent amongst religious people, i certainly don't believe in moral absolutes, nor do i seek them.

because it is easier for the brain to work with absolutes instead of variable. it makes people feel more secure and is the same instinct that leads to stereotyping{i.e. managing the great amount of information one gets}

People want absolutes because it's much easier to process. Also the scope of most people's live is so small that absolute morals are easy to believe in.

schema + cognitive dissonance

good/evil are easy schema, if something didn't fit nicely into those categories our brain would go into conflict mode until they did.
