Both of these heros are similar in that there seem to be a different incarnation/descendant of them in each of their games.
For this fight both can use their swords or any other weapons they've used and any magic they have. Also any unaided feat showings they've had in any incarnation can be used.
(...Basically for Link's side you are probably going to end up using what is essentially TP Link, since he's the physically most gifted of them.)
I'm don't know much about Ryu, I beat Breath of Fire II like 10 years ago so I don't remember much. And I'm currently playing Breath of Fire III thus I got the idea to make this thread, but I'm only a couple of hours into it.
I do remember one great durability/magic resistance feat for Ryu in Breath of Fire II though.

In this vid, which leads up to the last boss in the game, the host body of the demon master uses a spell to trap ryu and his party inside crystals. Ryu easily breaks out of this spell, and then soon after overcomes a paralyzing spell. Then he has a great durability feat where he's running up the bridge and is being bombarded blasts and they don't slow him down at all.
In Breath of Fire III so far I've seen ryu while he's still a child, be stabbed by a sword in the back and survive. After he got stabbed he reverted back to his baby dragon form but was still unconscious for a little while.
