I think its a doubing movie from theater so its like that n cheaper and also the clearity is less...

BruceSkywalker
new releases are not cheap at all here in cali..

movies that have been on dvd for a few years and aren't really selling are often times sold at a very cheap price to try to get people to buy them

wicker_man
I'd imagine 'cos of Blu-Ray and the markets fierce competition.

Exactly , just like how video's got cheap as dirt when dvd came out. If anybody's old enough to remeber that.

Compared to DVDs, videos were shit quality, unlike dvd to blu ray.

That's really not even close to being accurate , but your welcome to your opinion.

Do go on...

You go first my find feathered friend.

Explain why my post was not accurate in your opinion.

jayce78
Explain your statement other than just your opinion? Can you? Are all video's shit quality as you put it? Are all dvd's great quality? Are even some dvd's better quality visually than a high grade video tape? I think the answer to those question's is yes and no. It all depends on the video or the dvd. Nobody hates dvd , on the contrary , it has givin us a lot and had made the way for Blu-ray and High defenition , but your statement that dvd is better in all area's than a sharp , high grade video tape is just your opinion , unless you can explain in techniqial terms and than I'll certainly back off from my opinion. Although I have a feeling that neither of us are tech people and just basing an opinion from our own experiance , which is fine.

That's one where it's easy to find, but a number of places agree and that's what I've always been taught.

Fortunately, now most DVDs unless you go with a label that can't be bothered, are very good transfers. Out of my whole dvd buying, I think 2 or 3 were incredibly crap for transfer, so to me, it's rare for bad transfers, just got to know what you are buying.

I didn't mean shit quality as a whole, I use to be fine with VHS, as most, but then DVD came along and it was plain to see there was an incredibly noticable visual difference between VHS(not SVHS by the way) and DVD, especially now on flat screen large televisions that a lot of people have.

I also believe to get very good quality VHS playing, you have to have rather good equipment, specialist.

Oh and I don't think DVD or Blu-Ray is crap, just if you thought that...

I liked the look of VHS -- it was a closer medium to actual film. Digital video is so... meh to me. Plus VHS last longer.

Well It's the age old arguement of film vs Digital. The truth be told is both have wonderful qualities about them. Both have advantages and disadvantages. So it's nice we have all these choices to complete our home video theater. It's just a shame that VCR video is gone. I think we possibily could have done a little more with it , to include the option in the digital age.

The_usher
There are different means of storing movies these days. So the cost is come down.

I think it depends on where you go.Most places Dvds are expences but if you want to buy an older dvd then it is pretty cheap and that is fine by me.

Laserdiscs last longer than both VHS and DVD.

The big problem I came to have with VHS, was that I wanted to watch films letterboxed in their original format, and too few of them were.

And VHS is the first to fall apart. It dies a little death every time it's run through the hubs. You start getting those ways lines at the bottom...

Right now, it TVs you have to look carefully at. Those HDTVs with TruMotion - that looks unnatural to me. Things are too sharp, and the movement reminds me of video.

Ok, DVD's are a certain quality by nature (4.37 gigs, High Definition that is), blue ray are a lot higher quality because the file size is higher (14.7 or something like that)

The overall quality of the film itself depends on how it was made, compressed and burnt, its just circumstantial so you can't say all dvds sucks or are good, its a false equivalency.
