That isn't true. In one of the early JLA issues (around #30) he was using Firestorm's power and someone else's at the same time. That was the time he was crushing a 35 man JLA team.

Everyone's more familiar with the JLU version...LOl.

That's because the JLU Amazo was a friggen beast and the original Amazo looked like a weightlifter from the 40's.
