"Afro" Magus is powerful enough to give a hell of a fight / win against Thanos. With Lord Mar-Vell, the duo do it.

Last appearence Magus get his face mauled by Thanos. Then, the Mad Titan stomp Mar-Vell.

Pretty much. Thanos is Mar-Vell's Kryptonite.

It's been a while but wasn't recent Magus a crafty all-rounder who jumped into death knowing he could reappear elsewhere? Thanos would override Magus' ace in sleeve due to his newly reacquired Death Avatar status.

Which means he can kill those who normally can't die. And can't die himself.
