How is Shuma-Gorath defeated in his desire to conquer/destroy the universe while HOTU is in its possession, if at all?

Shuma is extremely powerful even under his own powers. with the HOTU he would be unstoppable and add that to genious level intellect...

There are some who can stalemate him. That's about it.

It doesn't matter who has it. Anyone with the HOTU can defeat whoever they want, so the fact that it's Shuma-Gorath doesn't really add anything.

Thanos w/ THOTU took direct shots from LT without any damage whatsoever. They would never be able to hurt any HOTU user.

Except for TOAA type characters, he ain't losing, and it doesn't matter if even Spiderman wields it.

Actually wrong, Thanos could only wield the HOTU due to his experience and his body being used to wielding other cosmic powers before, if a normal person tried to use it they would probably blow themselves up or something.

Shuma could likely use it though

No one can beat THOTI, maybe some exceptions about stalemating it. I think that even PR Beyonder would get wrecked.

I agree. A number of factors could determine what a HOTU user does with it and how well they use that power. For instance, if an idiot like The Blob were to wield it he could probably get it tricked out of his possession or not even know what to do with it.

With Shuma, its intellect is already incalcuable, and who knows what it would try to accomplish with it in its possession?

I think it'd make a fun story arc, even though it's revisiting the whole thing with Thanos, but I think it could play out differently just based on the character change.

But since Shuma-Gorath is already somewhat omnipotent (at least within its realm it's omnipotent in every sense of the word) wouldn't having HOTU make it truly omnipotent like the others you mentioned?

HOTU is not truly omnipotent. Otherwise, Thanos would have been stupid, and he wouldn't have fallen to the One Above All's real plan

One could argue that TOAA/Presence/GEB are not truly omnipotent: ie TOAA needed Thano's help to solve that flaw (right?)

Heck, even the author (assuming that TOAA =/= author) isn't truly omnipotent, because he is bound by laws that prevent him from putting racist stuff on, and is influence by the editor/fans/etc.
