Superman uses his super-knitting to make a gigantic straitjacket that holds Tyrant and somehow stops him from using any of his powers. He also knits Sentry some nice Angora socks and mends the hem of Zeus's toga.

Nope, I'm pretty sure in the Silver Age his powers were explained as the result of being more highly evolved then humans and being born on a planet with much higher gravity. The solar radiation explanation I'm fairly certain was introduced by Byrne. Could be wrong though.
