Rules

1. We argue based on them fighting in character. This means the characters in question have displayed the abilities on screen/in game or its reasonable to assume they have the abilities and it's in character to for them to do so in conflict.

2. Each faction/side has equal preparation. This translates into an invasion type thread. This is the general point. No one shots or mega weapons that can solo the other side. There is no time travel or battle field removal. A few examples are as follows: The triforce cannot be united nor can Death from the Harry Potter universe or the Guardians of Hyrule aid the characters. No one can use the resurrection stone. The Harry Potter characters are not allowed to shape shift to spy on the opposing faction. Both factions of characters have 1 week to prepare for an invasion type battle.

3. It is assumed for the purposes of the thread the protagonists and antagonists both work together against the foreign invader. Arguing Link goes after Ganondorf midway through the battle is a no go. Both sides are equally unified with no betrayals at all.

4.The location is simple. Hogwarts on one side of the map. Hyrule Castle on the other. 2 miles separating each other. Open terrain between them.

5. There is an agreed upon 2 week time period for this battlezone. Both posters have agreed that if we both agree it can end before the 2 weeks is up.

6. The judges who are accepted agree to debate this solely on the arguments presented. The decisions of the judges themselves are to be influenced in no way, shape, or form by their own personal opinion.


This is just the thread with the basic rules and is intended to find the judges. Nate (my opponent) extended me the opportunity to extend the challenge to any hardcore members of the zelda brigade. If no one else comes forward after the weekend then it's me versus Nate.

For the furthering of information,

You should decide on how Felix Felicis should work. In MVF, it has been used as a Deus Ex Machina due to the wording of how it works.

Dragons?

Define Guardians. Some things may not count while others most certainly will.

The (Sacred grove)Guardians being the characters that talk to Link and help him through their words throughout his quest.

Regarding the stipulation of mega weapons: I understand refraining from abstracts such as Death and Triforce wishes, but could arguments be made for more encompassing effects that, while far reaching, might not be powerful enough to take a great majority of the opposing faction? In this regard I am considering for example the Twilight Field. From what I understand on it now, it seems like an effect that could affect younger/lower level wizards, but could be defended against by more skilled ones. I will of course be studying in more detail, and if I find that I feel it to be closer to a mega weapon, as you call them, I will refrain from utilizing it in the battlezone.

On another point, is there general knowledge of opposing factions in this scenario, or are both sides essentially going in blind?

By open terrain I will assume you mean flat plains. Will offensive abilities be capable of targeting the castles directly, or will the fight take place mainly within this 2-mile "No Man's Land"?

I have no issue with this rule itself. I assume the most suitable candidates would be those who have some knowledge of the fictions being presented, so that we need not waste space in posts to explain things.

Oh, I understand. It will be a close comparison of individual units in combat, I am trying to establish a limit to large scale abilities. It determines how I consider Hyrule's battle plans.

I am considering more in the idea of siege attacks. If either side is capable of summoning something or just on their own power having something capaable of large scale damage, perhaps if they're able to have a clear shot at the enemies' headquarters it could be an option for victory. Now that I consider it, I assume if one castle falls it signifies defeat? Or is this meant to be victory through annihilation?

I will leave this up to you. You are free to argue outside of mega attacks which can win the thread singlehandedly. I want to keep atomic bomb type of threats out of this thread as it defeats the purpose.

Do the judges base their vote solely on the material you two present, or if they know something the debaters didn't bring up they use that to guide their decision.

Only on the quality of the debate.

Like that BZ link the winner was a guy that supported Batman over Wolverine, even when the latter would obviously win. I know Hyrule would beat the HP verse but if I was a judge and Quan put up the better argument, he'd be the victor.

I don't post in here too much. I've been more focused on the MVF recently, but i'm glad i didn't get axed. I promise i'll be fair and impartial if given the opportunity.

I don't understand how feats are less if they are given proper context. Having to judge based on the merits of the debaters sounds more like judge material than not.

I'm not sure I understand the differences. Clearly you will be under control of the characters in the BattleZone, so you must obviously remain in the domain of action that it has been implied possible by what actually happens in their respective fictions -feats-.

Portrayals and personality only matter when the characters fight with CIS on which isn't the case here -right? At least I was under that impression-.

Ah, then that's entirely different.

If that's the case, I wouldn't rule by feats, I'd rule by the portrayals, as long as their respective implications are provided by the debaters. Really, as long as their points are backed up by proof I don't see why it wouldn't be character proof.

...Again, this kind of debating asks for a lot of heavy work, I'm not sure if both sides realize how incredible huge of a task they are engaging.

I will admit I'm probably getting in over my head here. This will be my first ever battlezone, and I haven't even played the game for the side I'm meant to be representing. Luckily I have a fair few friends who can help me understand what I have to offer...and the internet, of course.

He said no matter what I said he was going with the other character due to his own personal opinion. Nothing personal but I'd rather not. Just enjoy yourself and read it. Anyone is free to post their opinion in a constructive thread. I will post another thread in which people can convey their opinions or thoughts on the debate. I'd just ask they wait until it's finished as it alters the posters doing the battlezones arguments as they will obviously read it and address it in the battlezone.

Most of these posters have not done one. After you do one you don't feel like doing one ever again. There is so much effort involved and it's so time consuming that until you do one that a person never truly knows what is involved.
