And it's BRITISHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH made. I've been waiting for this for donkeys, got good reviews from festivals last year.

It's a different story to District 9... it's more Cloverfield/The Mist than District 9.

-Pr-
Looks interesting. Yes, there's similarities to District 9, but that can only be a good thing imo.

Nemesis X
Infected zone in Mexico? They must've came up with that idea eversince they heard about the swine flu epidemic going on over there.

dadudemon
It doesn't resemble District 9, at all.

More like a zombie apocalypse horror film meets a Jurassic Park movie.

ADarksideJedi
I don't think it is going to be any good.

you don't see the similarities?

AthenasTrgrFngr
i dont no expression aside from there being a "quarantine zone". thats hardly "district 9-esque" though

The Nuul
Its District 9 with a zombie/monster feel.

AthenasTrgrFngr
how? what are the specific "district 9 themes" that make this movie so comparable?

The Nuul
Oh, I dunno....the whole no monsters allowed signs for starters, the look of the quarantine zone, the filming is almost the same.

MildPossession
District 9 wasn't exactly original in those elements either. But anyway, as long as it's good, who cares if it's 'like District 9'.

More like the "District 9" genre. It's not similar, and yet it has that certain sense of realism to it. I'm definitely not complaining, considering "District 9" is one of the best science fiction movies I've seen in years, if not ever.

The Nuul
Yeah, its not close to D9, its has very little traces of it and Cloverfield. This move sucks and is very slow, dragging boring. its just two people trying to travel from Mexico to the USA and you only see the monster once maybe twice, thats it.

4/10

Dave_97
maybe its just because of glare, but that looked too damn dark.
couldn't even see the last shot. like. anything in the last shot.

but who knows, it might be good, trailers have lied before.

The Nuul
The trailer is way better and more exciting than the whole film. The trailer has all of the best parts. Dont watch this on the big screen.

And no I just saw it, its not good.

jinXed by JaNx
really don't see how people compare this to district 9. If you said, the mist, then yeah, i see it.

jinXed by JaNx
Wow this is putrud. I mean Baaaaaad, Quite possibly the most useless movie ever created. It's worse than dragon wars, yeah, THAT bad people. oie

The Nuul
Yeah, like I said the trailer has all of the best parts the rest is no name actors with shit acting and story.

MildPossession
Worst than Dragon Wars? you are talking out of your arse big time. And there was nothing wrong with the acting, it wasn't amazing but it was NOT shit. The story was nothing new but it was nice and simple for the film and the film is wonderfully shot, some nice stand out scenes.

It's a decent science fiction film but not a classic like a lot of previews made it out to be, if you are expecting some fast paced film(District 9 type action) then you will probably be very disappointed.

It must have been the quality you saw, saw everything fine and dandy on the film version I watched and the dark parts of the film were not hard to watch at all, could see everything that was suppose to be seen.

I recommend the low budget film Monsters. See it on the cinema screen. Nicely shot, a good music score, and two leads who are not annoying.

It could have had some more money spent on the special effects, the interior scenes of the petrol station is one place where it could have benefited.

It's even more impressive that it apparently cost around $400,000/$500,000 to make, and a debut film from the film maker.

But yeah, it's nothing like District 9, and reminded me of a The Mist/Jurrasic Park mix. And yes it has a big creature like in Cloverfield, but then, Cloverfield isn't exactly original either...

Did you guys who have seen it watch it on video on demand then?

The Nuul
I didnt see DW but this movie did suck ass, it was boring and you saw the monsters twice.

MildPossession
You saw them at the very start, partly during one scene, then in various scenes(but dead), then a type of offspring in another scene, and you saw them for quite a long time during most of the end sequence, in what was probably one of the standout and beautiful scenes.

Just because you found it boring and slow, doesn't mean it's shit.

It might be different for me, I went into seeing it knowing that it was a slow film where nothing much happens, I wasn't expecting some big action fest.

RE: Blaxican
What does make a movie shit, then? hmm

MildPossession
Not what they think. stick out tongue

MildPossession
Here is a nice little bit of a review I found on it:

However, rest assured the story is as involving as it is surprising, subverting genre expectations at every turn to create something utterly unique and original.

Indeed, the only criticism one can aim at the narrative is that at times it's a little slow, with some scenes lasting too long and outstaying their welcome towards the film's end.

McNairy and Able shine, however, creating believable characters who embark on a dangerous journey physically, and a more tender and touching one emotionally. For the most part a two-hander, much of their dialogue is improvised, and it's a testament to the talents of these two actors that it always rings true.

But it's writer-director Gareth Edwards who deserves the most praise. Shooting guerrilla-style on a shoe-string budget, he's crafted a wholly original feature that stays with you long after the credits have rolled. Edwards was also responsible for production design, but it's his special effects work that truly impresses. Created on a laptop over the course of six months, the monsters in question are something to behold -- bioluminescent things of beauty that look like they come from a far more expensive movie.

And it's not just the monsters -- clever effects work is littered throughout the movie, enabling him to tell this most intimate of stories on the largest possible scale. The result is a creature feature unlike any other, and one that has announced the arrival of an exciting new talent in the shape of this young writer-director.

Also another interesting review here which fits perfectly with what some have said on here:

The Nuul
I thought Carriers is better.

jinXed by JaNx
Nothing happened in this movie? It was just people talking about really cool stuff that we never got to see. Oh yeah and they walked. I'm sorry but it's balls when you have a build up with no canon.

Nemesis X
What does the monster in the movie look like?

I agree 100%

There was also nothing clever about it, it was shit.

That's a BIG statement. In my opinion, "Dragon Wars" is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and I say that with 100% honesty.

MildPossession
It is an idiotic statement to be frank. stick out tongue As I said, he is talking out of his arse.

The aliens look like massive squid but with spider like legs that can move them around, but in the dark they glow a fantastic red colour It's nicely designed and different to the usual 'alien', it's more like nature and how something that we brought back via bacteria might just mutate into.

jinXed by JaNx
Dragon Wars at least tried to do something. It at least tried to entertain it's audience. I cant even consider, Monsters a movie because nothing happened.

The Nuul
This is more exiting than this movie.

Yeah, sounds like one of those stupid movies with a bunch of plot where the action and big booms should be.
