Harry Potter ( I just need to read the books, that's all)
Pirates of the Caribbean messed

A Talking Dog

forumcrew
thats gotta be #1 easy for the i hate but morons love it category

M® $¥®€Ñ
any Ben Stiller movie. His style of "everything goes wrong but ends up good in the end" comedy gets old too quickly.

Lord Soth
They excluded FAR too much from the transition. They left out so much stuff that it's infuriating to a fan of the books.

Two more that I thought of: Signs and Seabiscuit

Punker69
I think this thread is basically name some big movies you dont like smile.

Zed
c'mon people give some reasons, just boring reading a list of movies.

Why dont you like these movies?

Kes

burlyman
Star Wars (I have only seen some of one and i hated it embarrasment)
Harry Potter
....

Cinemaddiction
Precisely. On top of people gettin' away with bashing others for their taste in movies, who the hell here really likes "Seabiscuit"? laughing

Kes
What are you talking about? Nobody is bashing others for their taste in movies. We are simply naming movies that we do not like but everyone else seems too. If you see it any other way is because you do not respect the fact that ppl have different tastes.

finti
Schindles Lisszzzzzzt
Castaway
Titanic
Godfather
Matrix triology

Ok
Schindlers list, too long, to dull and a overrated story

Castaway: an hour monologue of Tom and a volleyball . need I say more

Titanic: mushy wuss story

Godfather, talking about much ado about nothing a certain sleeping pill

Matrix Trilogy, nice effects lame ass story that people seem to debate to death.

WindDancer
I'm going to add these 3 (I can't believe I remenber them)

28 days later
Gangs of New York
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Cinemaddiction
forumcrew's response to "Spiderman":

Guess that's not bashing? embarrasment

If that's the way they feel, I guess I'm a moron.

Samas-adian
Soth, what was not included in the books???

Finti - how is Schindler LIst overrated story??

<<Solo>>
Finding Nemo

finti

forumcrew

forumcrew
well i grew up on the comic and cartoon some so i just thought the movie was crap.. same as x-men and other marvel things they are ruining..

although i will admit the 2nd looks much better, and X2 was an improvement... so maybe it just takes them a few tries

Kaleanae
Not another teen movie no expression

BackFire
Gladiator is, in my mind, the most overrated film ever made. It is a total rip off of sparticus in every way, not just in basic premise, but also in the more detailed aspects of the story. It did nothing new and all russel crow did was state a bunch of lame one liners in a monotone voice.

The Passion - I found it boring beyond comparison. Just a guy getting beaten in some way or another for 45 minutes. The best parts of the film were the flashbacks sequences, which we got small tidbits of jesus's past. Unfortunately instead of having more of these in order to get people to care about the character of Jesus, they elected to show us the same basic act of cruelty repeated till he died. Also it was very preachy.

Tomb Raider - Oh man, fell asleep in this one, thought it was truley horrible.

Godfather- The first hour of the film is nothign more then an itialian guy droning on about the lack of respect he gets. Has some cool scenes, but just found it boring.

Black Hawk Down - Constant action does not equate to constant excitement. It was another boring and repetitive movie much like the passion, just guns shooting and nothing more.

Matrix sequels - Pure pretentiousness. Preached and preached and flaunted it's lame, formulaic religious metaphors straight from Phylosophy 101 that were so obvious it was laughable (Yes, Neo is supposed to represent Jesus Christ, we get it, stop droning on about it. No one cares). Top it off by starring Keanuu Reeves and throw in a love story with two people that have zero chemestry and you got yourself a movie with little too offer.

Rules of Attraction - This movie was one big gimmick. It was like a student film in the fact that they did all sorts of crap that had no purpose other then simply being wierd. Like the rewind sequences seemed to be thrown in there simply because it made the film seem interesting to those who can't recognize the difference between something that's creative and smart, and something that may be unique, but stupid. Also a tired story of teen angst that put me to sleep.

Queen of the Damned - Worst movie ever, a long wannabe gothic mtv propoghanda pushing music video that had a story so horrible I ached after watching it. I would have walked out of this movie but I was stuck there because my friend drove and didn't want to leave. Plus the vampires were so lame and homoerotic looking that I thought for a moment I was watching a gay porn, which it may very well actually be in disguise.

Cinemaddiction
Well, I'll do you one better and and admit that I grew up on the live action television Spider Man shows, both NBC and on "The Electric Company". wink

What was wrong with X Men the movie? Brain Singer is godly for his adaptation. It was almost flawless, and alot of others would agree.

They have to modernize these movies in order to get mainstream audiences to watch them to begin with. Everyone cries foul when Hollywood shits out remakes, but when an original movie based on a comic book makes it big, they still aren't satisfied.

C'mon people.. stick out tongue

silver_tears
I thought that Spider-Man and X-Men were wonderful yes
Also I would like to hear peoples' reasons for hating LotR confused

Matrix 3, the ending I disliked erm But I don't hate the movie. I love it.
Daredevil was an overall piece of crap no expression
Charlies Angels, was nothing like it should have been, they focused on weapons and such here, whereas originally it was just kick ass girls rock
Scary Movie 2,3, they just plain sucked, the first was original and funny, but they should have stopped there.
The Hulk, sick enough said....

Myth
Lord of the Rings - What can I say, it just doesn't appeal to me. It was made well, I'll give it that. But I'm not a big fantasy guy and it just didn't hold my interest. Plus, I can deal with that, but not for a combined 10 hours. By that time I'm just flat out angry. Then it took 30-40 minutes to end with 6 different endings. Save some of those for the true fans in the extended DVD for the love of god. That was hell for people who aren't big fans of the movie.

Fast & the Furious - The plot in these types of movies are just weak. I think everybody just likes these because the cars are eye candy. Its almost like rap which is based way too much on image (speaking of, I hate 8-Mile too but thats only because I don't like rap). The ending scene of part 1 was just stupid as well. The cop is trying to catch up to Vin Diesel and when he does, they randomly decide to drag race (with a train coming). That was pointless and stupid.

The Sixth Sense - The ending was great. Possibly the biggest shock ever in a movie. However, to me the movie just dragged on until that part. It was good acting, but it was so monotone the whole time and made me want to sleep. They talked slow and quiet in other words.

Master and Commander - BORING AS HELL! People say how realistic it was and how it was just like being on a real ship. Well, thats nice but being out on a ship for a long time sure sounds boring to me. The whole movie there was so called suspense where they get all panicky because they see the other ship ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE ****ING OCEAN! They make it seem like its a close call but the ship is so far away. Also, where's the realism at the beginning? You know, when they can hardly see the other ship yet that ship can shoot those inaccurate cannon balls from a 1/2 mile away with 100% accuracy. I also went into that movie looking for battles, I got a 5 minute battle at the beginning, and a 10 minute battle at the end with 2 hours and 15 minutes of boredom in between. Plus, who really gives a damn about the Dr and his beloved animals.

Lord Soth
Harry Potter- Already gave my reason

Signs- The acting was good, I'll give it that. But I HATE the story and the ending...very anticlimactic. Plus, they insert some random crap every so often that just doesn't fit in with the rest of the story...it was terrible

Seabiscuit- Boring

ArrghPirateGirl
Seabiscuit just sounds boring not even going 2 bother with that

I hate whats it called LOL Hate it so much cant even remeber the name

Kes
Duh! stick out tongue Sorry I thought I edit that.

Kes
My knowledge of Spider-man comes from the cartoons. Usually ppl just complain about the web being organic. To me that was what I most hate in the cartoon, the web being created by Peter so I liked the fact that it was organic LOL

As for X men, my knowledge again comes from cartoons, and again I appreciate Singer giving it a more down to earth look. Lets face it, ppl flying around would look lame. IMO superman is the only one who can do that wink And if they had the original suits roll eyes (sarcastic) It would look as crappy as Spawn or Flash Gordon...whatever the hell its called. Again IMO.

I dont know how old Spider-man is but X-men is like 40 years old, it has changed a lot since the 1st drawings, I dont see ppl complaining about that huh

Junaspher

Darth Revan
Most SW fans claim to love them sad

Somehow

Devalion
Charlie's Angels 2 and Tomb raider 2, in my opinion were made just so the Actors could do the unimaginable! Utter Crap. For me both were unbelievable stories.

Cinemaddiction
Charlies Angels 2 was just a guy flick. I sat through the first 15 minutes or so, and all the sexual innuendos were just so overbearing, I turned it off.

Devalion
hehehehehehehehehehehehe! I take it that by the time they did the strip thing in the club, you'd practically turned it off?

Lord Soth
Try arguing that with Mr. Parker.......he never gives up laughing

caballera
People like Tomb Raider?

Master and Commander
2001: A Space Odyssey

ArrghPirateGirl
If u hate sd so much j#1 why the hell do u go around talking like him???

Darth Revan
oh and let's not forget The Music Man... I used to like it but when I was in 6th grade or so my stupid choir teacher made us watch it and she kept forgetting where we left off the last class period so we'd end up starting half an hour before where we ended every day... So I've practically seen the whole movie four or five times now...

Fire
Spider man, The Hulk, Ace Ventura, need I go any further?

Mr Parker
Ditto.same here.Boy am I glad to see that there are other people on this thread who hated that movie also. smile
a few others I will also add are
Batman 1 & 2
E.T.
Xmen
Men in BLack
& Independence day.

Cinemaddiction
Let me add 2 more; "The Punisher" & "Bubba Ho-Tep."

punkyhermy
LOTR

Mr Parker
Forumcrew you are too cool.I totally agree with you, hollywood is ruining marvel comic films these days such as xmen with all these stupid changes they make. and for that poster that said they got to modernize it.Oh please, thats no excuse for those stupid changes they have made in comicbook films in recent years. roll eyes (sarcastic)

forumcrew
x-men flawles.. they changed characters... they made rogue a child and a baby.. pretty much turned her into jubile.. especially with the Logan fixation. I dont really like that they had to change their costumes.. dont see a point in that.. and now their going to the pheonix already!? theres no way there doing the hole thing in space... oh and wolveriene not having a big connection with saber tooth? theres many more.. this movie was more flawed the spiderman was

Cinemaddiction
Well, Rogue was 18 in "X Men", I wouldn't consider her to be a "baby", personally. As for changing their costumes, I'll address it both here and below respectively. It's the 21st century. Tight blue spandex with "X" medallions, and black and yellow spandex is NOT going to cut it. Don't you remember Cyclops rib to Wolverine on the X Jet on Liberty Island? In order for people to take notice, it has to be modernized. This isn't the 1960's version of X Men, it's the new millenium, faster, sexier X Men.

I'm not familiar with the Phoenix Saga, so I won't touch it. What did you mean by Wolverine not having a big connection with Sabretooth? They can't waste time building everyones backstory when you have an ensamble cast of literally 10's of important characters. Singer played up the most important stories, and enough so to build the tension of the whole movie.

Read above, and yes, it is. Riddle me this, you want to see "Blade" based on his original comic book appearances!?!

http://www.marveldirectory.com/pics/picsb/blade.gif

HELL NO..and neither does anyone else! Why? Because it's DATED, it's UNAPPEALING, it's visually BORING.

Brian Singer is a big X Men fan, and from what I know about the series, he is doing it justice. It's smart, funny, adventurous, and alot of fun to watch.

Keep in mind, if Stan Lee didn't think that Sam Raimi and Brian Singer wouldn't do his brainchildren and his adoring fans justice with their work, I don't think he'd sign away for these adaptations.

claidisa_felton
ET THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL...what do people see in it??? i just cant watch it...and no its not because it hasnt got loads of FX...i just dont feel for the characters and dont find it moving

Mr Parker
Yeah I hear you Claidisa.Glad to hear there are other people out there who feel the same way as I do.When that movie first came out when I was a kid, everywhere I went, all I heard was people talking about how great and touching of a story it was. After seeing it I could not believe what I was hearing.I just cant figure how anybody can get so emotional about a fake puppet which is all E.T. is and I am a guy who normally finds things in movies and tv shows touching and get more emotional over things than most people do.I think they must have totaled the box office figures wrong back then saying it made more money than Star Wars like they did,no way could it have done that because that movie doesnt have the same following and anywhere near as much of a fan base as Star wars still does today.naw they screwed up the box office totals back then somehow.

Mr Parker
Rogue hardly looked like and adult though like she is in the comics, thats a major beef that many Xmen fans had with this movie was there was no reason for her to be so young. mad Like he said so well,it was pretty much a jubile fascination thing. Just because you dont think their costumes from the comics wont cut it,doesnt mean they wont. For people to take notice it has to be modernized? not hardly.Their costumes are fine the way they are, dont mess with tradition. mad wolvie not wearing a mask was a reasonable change, those changes he just mentione and pointed out, were NOT reasonable changes. visually boring, unappealing, dated? please give me a break.these are superheros we are talking about, they are suppose to have skin tight out fits. roll eyes (sarcastic)
you also need to keep in mind that Marvel sold their rights to these studios to make those films and that Stan Lee has no say so in the matter whatsoever in how these studios make the movies. flawless? hardly.those movies were HUGELY flawed,

Myth
You guys may not care about Daredevil but could you imagine how gay it would have been if Bullseye looked the way he was suppose to? Come on, a bad guy in blue tights?

amity75
I hated Gladiator and Finding Nemo.

Cinemaddiction
That's my point, you won't see Daredevil in some goddamn banana yellow body suit with beady red eyes.

Honestly, in the year 2004, the 21st century, do you think people want to see this...

http://www.marveldirectory.com/pics/picsw/wolverine1.gif

or this..

http://www.crankycritic.com/archive03/posters/x2-wolverine.jpg

Obviously what your totally failing to realize is by making these "mutants" more human, people in general can identify with them. I would have assumed you would have already known this? It's pretty much what the catalyst for the entire X Men saga; equality.

Like I said, these brightly colored sissy body suits don't fly in todays movie society. That's better left for comic books. Tradition doesn't bring audiences in, modernization for the general public does.

When I say "sign off", I mean that Stan Lee wouldn't have given his approval, which I am POSITIVE both directors did before submitting it, since he knows best.

Lastly, don't confuse "flaws" with something that was done different on purpose. Something are bound to get lost in translation, and some things are going to be better adapted to flow with a mainstream motion picture. Don't get the two mixed, because there can't be any critical flaws unless they set out to do everything according the original in the first place, which they did NOT.

forumcrew
first off if your not familiar with phoenix you dont have a past with
x-men so you dont get this arguement.. they could have kept similar costumes.. they did for spiderman.. and the most important stories? wolveriene and sabertooth is one of the most important x-men story lines or comic book story lines of that matter.. and bottom line they ruined Rogue.. and missing Beast and Gambit... then adding in the little tidbits about them.. Beast is an original ****in X-men Brian Singer did a good job making a modern version based on some of the characters so kids could like a movie similar to the old X-men.. he did a Half ass job making a good X-MEN movie..

Myth
I agree that they should keep important stories together but at the same time they won't merge well onto the big screen. Phoenix was bad ass and I can't wait to see her in the movie but it would obviously be stupid as hell for them to do the whole space thing. I'm keeping my stance on the uniforms though. Seriously, do you know what the comic book Bullseye looked like? *shudders*. Hell, I didn't like the Spider-man costume either. I thought the movie needed darkened up a bit and it would have been cool if Spidy wore his navy outfit.

Lord Soth
The thing I hate about comic book fans is that they can never enjoy the movies...even if it's REALLY good, like X-Men was. They spend to much time picking it apart for not 100% adhereing to the comic book, which is rarely a bad thing anyway.

ArrghPirateGirl
Yep I agree with

Cinemaddiction
I have as much right to dissect these movies as anyone else, comic book knowledge withstanding.

I said before, they don't have TIME to exploit every single characters relationships. What's bigger? Someones personal feud, or delving into the most popular characters unknown origins, when Singer focused on "Weapon X" in "X2"?

As for Gambit and Beast, they also gave the shaft to alot of other X Men. In Xavier's school, there were only mere mentions of Artie, Kitty Pryde, Jubilee, and Collosus had little screen time. You can only put so much into a 1.5 - 2 hour movie, and still devlop the characters, the story, and wrap it all up, and make it enjoyable.

You people still fail to understand this whole deal with the costumes. They work for COMICS.

Name one comic book movie where the original costumes were kept for the characters? Tick..tock..tick..tick..

That's right..VERY FEW. The Rocketeer? BOMBED. The Phantom? BOMBED. The Shadow? BOMBED!

God, even the lame ass "The Avengers" movie updated it's style, and it still bombed. Have any of you watched X Men: Evolution? Did they not change their outfits for that show as well? Ever consider why? Because it's 2004, maybe?

The reason you don't see any comic book movies being made with these "superheroes" in their original garb is because it's so ****ing outdated and unstylish, that it would get laughed at and ridiculed!

Everyone seems to forget the 1989 Batman movie. Everyone went apeshit when they saw Keaton's vacumformed bodysuit, and the new Batman logo. From that day forward, "original" costumes would NOT cut it in today's movies. Do you think a guy wearing gray flannel pajamas, some blue biker shorts, a yellow belt, and a little blue mask would have made him look intimidating? No.

That said, Spiderman's outfit had a MAJOR overhaul. The red is redder, the blue darker, the eyes are pearlescent domes, the webbing is raised, and the logo is updated. Of all the people that hated Green Goblin's outfit, I loved it. I thought it was necessary, and very stylish.

Sorry for the rant, but alot of you are failing to recognize what will and will not work in the 2004 when it comes to movies being adapted from comics. Something work in print that sure as hell don't work on celluloid.

Dario Argento
The Scream trilogy

Kes
Its kes smile And indeed she is. Ppl give reasons,ok?!
And please no more superhero talk.

forumcrew
i dont think X-men was really good by just movie standards good yes but not great but the fact is its about a story that already exists so they should stick to it, or be creative and make their own idea

Mr Parker
call the damn movie something else for christ sakes if they are going to betray the spirit of the comic by having them wear black leather outfits.that movie SHOULD have been called BLACK LEATHER MEN.seeing as how they have never been seen on screen there is no proof that those costumes dont fly.as forum guy pointed out earlier there WERE critical flaws in the movie.again STAN LEE has no say so in the matter what so ever and a lot of times directors cant make the movie the way they want it to be made because studios wont allow them to,for instance we know for sure that Raimi wanted to have Gwen Stacy in the upcoming sequel to the name of the movie at the bottom of my sig, big grin but thats not going to happen because the studios wont allow him to direct the movie the way he wants to direct it.

Mr Parker
you seem to go along with whatever hollywood does to a superhero movie no matter how stupid the change is so I can see reasoning with you is hopeless.there have been many people I have come across who were non spiderman fans who hated that goblin costume, that tells me something right there.the thing is people moaned when they heard about the costume chage to batman but once they saw the new costume they changed their mind because unlike the goblin or the xmen costumes,it was a reasonable change.Bullseyes costume change was reasonable, goblin costume and xmen were not. roll eyes (sarcastic)

Gregory
I think the idea of updating costumes is silly. Costumes were never based on what was fashionable, so it doesn't really make sense to "update" them, since there is nothing about them to link them to a given time period in the first place. That being said, it doesn't really bother me.

Having Batman kill people in the first two movies, on the other hand, does bother me. I'm not going to go into details--people who care can come over to the Comic Book Forums and look it up--but since the discussion is "movies that you hate but others love," I thought I'd mention it.

lomelindi
MOULIN ROUGE!!!!!

what a big s.hit for me... sad

Cinemaddiction

Cinemaddiction
..and you seem to be unable to grasp the concept of evolution. It's been a pleasure talking to a brick wall this entire time.

Just because it wasn't based on what was fashionable doesn't mean that the style can stand the test of time, which it doesn't for any comic book characters made between 1940 - 1995. Like I said, nobody wants to see a supposed superhero in spandex.

Sorry, Kes. I'm all done.

finti
superman is the only half decent superhero movie out there
Batman movies Spiderman sucked big time, never bother to see the rest of them

Lord Soth
I can easily say the same of you roll eyes (sarcastic)

Kes
No more superhero talk!

sauron
i hate resevoir dogs, i dont see what all the fuss is about, but it seems amazingly popular with everyone else

Lord Soth
It wasn't superhero talk, it was a statement saying that he's incredibly stubborn stick out tongue

Anywho, I'll be the first to admit that it takes a lot for me to hate a movie. Even if I'm aware that the movie is bad, I can still enjoy it. So It's hard to name anything more than I already have stick out tongue

forumcrew
i think people are either QT fans or not.. not a lot of middle ground

Gregory
I didn't hate it, exactly, but Citizen Kane bored me so baddly that I turned it off halfway through. I honestly don't see what's supposed to be so great about it.

remember it was made in 1942..? i think

Omegaman
TCM, Beaches

finti
still is boring

Dr Mystery
You know the movies I'm talking about? The ones that all your friends and work colleagues go on and on about, the critics rave about them, but for some reason you just can't stand them, or at least can't get into them? You tell people that you don't like a movie and they say something like; "You just didn't understand it", or something like that, and you're like "I understood it, I just didn't like it".

Sure you could post your criticisms on that particular movie's thread, but some people get defensive and it can turn into a slanging match. So I thought we could do with a place to have a little go at the films we can't stand without the need for people to defend those films.

I'll go first:

ERASERHEAD:
I was channel surfing one night and this film had only been on for a couple of minutes so I watched it. It made me feel like there was a succubus in the room draining the life-force out of me, I felt empty and by the time it finished it was about 4am and had no choice but to go to bed feeling like a zombie.

DONNIE DARKO:
I saw this film in the cinema and I have watched it a couple of times on DVD just to see what all the fuss was about. Okay the acting is not bad I suppose, it looks like a well made film and the story has that peculiar edge that I usually go for, but to me the whole film just feels pretentious.

EDEN LAKE:
I actually found myself rooting for the kids in this film 'cos the guy and his girl were so annoying, particularly the guy, who was just asking for it IMO.

THIS IS ENGLAND:
Another pretentious one IMO. Working class England in the 80's, big wow! I've seen that in too many TV shows or films, hell, I grew up in working class England in the 80's. I love all of Shane Meadows' work (Once Upon A Time In The Midlands possibly being an exception) but this, I just couldn't stand it.

THE 51st STATE:
Piece of ****!

ANTICHRIST:
A relatively new film. I was expecting a lot from this Lars Von Trier film, but all I got was Willem Dafoe and his wife sitting there naked, crying and hugging in their garage. ****off!

MildPossession
The following always come to mind for me:

Casablanca

Die Hard - o.v.e.r.r.a.t.e.d

Clerks and any other Kevin Smith film - one of the most overrated film makers ever

The Shawshank Redemption

Scarface

Blade Runner

Crash - the preachy 'race' message one

The Departed - nothing new... it's a remake... yawn, and the Oscar win was a joke

Top Gun

Don't hate any of the above though.

Why anybody could enjoy that piece of trash I will never understand

Hardly a movie everyone loves. Hell, most people haven't even heard of it probably and amongst critics is was extremely polarizing.

Mystic River
Paranormal Activity

Why'd you hate Inception?

Totally agree with you on Paranormal Activity though.

Maybe "hate" is too strong a word. Like Paranormal Activity, Inception, in my opinion, was WAY over hyped. Everyone I spoke to about this film, whether on this board or my friends and family, hyped up Inception to be this spectacular, life changing film. I mean, it was a decent film, I have to admit, but I just don't see what is so awesome about Inception.

Loved is too strong for me, but I liked Anti-Christ. But yes, definitely not one EVERYBODY loves lol.

I included Antichrist because all of my friends went on about it being so good. I even overheard 2 guys in a bar talking about how fantastic it was.

I dont think your in the minority on that.

For me.E.T. when I was little, everywhere I went all i heard was how this was the greatest movie.people saying it was their best movie they ever seen.and when i talled about how much I hated it over the years, many would say-your the first person i have heard say that about it.i fail to see how so many people can get do teary eyes over a fake puppet dying. roll eyes (sarcastic) I'll never get it.I mean Im talking about ADULTS who told me that over the years.

Another movie would be "Popeye" the movie.Alot of people hate it and think it is lame but I like it.

Personally I never understood the appeal of GroundHog Day, I just found it too tedious to watch.

Funny enough, whenever it's on tv & I'm surfing channels, it's always the same scene in the movie I come across.
