It was retconned, she did that with the aid of the Dragon of the Moons influence. And she does doesn't have the Mind Gem at the moment.
Also she had fluctuating power portrayls in her original brief stint in the Avengers.

MM take this against current Moondragon 6 or 7/10

Moondragon sans DoM and Mind Gem in GoG at the moment is not in the same league as the one in the 70's.

Was it not during the Defenders run? Defenders v1 138 where he explains how he buried within Moondragons mind. As he gained more influence his host became more powerful.
