Does anyone know if Super Nintendo cartriges are region locked or not? I hope not.

Your biggest issue here is that North American SNES consoles were different in design to Japanese and European ones- the cartridges are physically incompatible.

On top of that, the PAL region cartridges (mostly European) have internal chips making them incompatible with US and Japanese systems. Get past that, and you tended to get an inferior experience trying to play a non-PAL game on a PAL tv set.

So, short answer- yes, just not on the same principle that region locking applies today.

What about Region 4 Super Nintendos (or are they the same as Europe?)

Ushgarak
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by region 4 in this instance, as the regions didn't exist at the time. If you mean Australia, then I think they used the European PAL version.
