I like to talk about horror movies so I started this thread.I have seen most of the great horror films so i thought what we could do with this thread is leave what you think is the best horror movie of all time and people can discuss it.If you think there is a better one, then post it.I will start it off with what i think is the scariest movie that I've seen:
Psycho(the original)
It was released in 1960 but I think it stands still today as a definition of what a great horror movie is supposed to feel like.
Evil Dead
meh.......
there's too many different sub-genres to horror for me to pick a favorite.........I'd have to pick a favorite monster, paranormal, psychological, zombie, slasher, etc. etc.
I'll just go ahead and agree with Psycho............it has stood the test of time. It truely is a great film.
SlipknoT
Pyscho was good, but it dosent stand the test of time
slasherpunk18
How so?Do you mean that it isn't gory or flashy?
Evil Dead
sure it does. I watched it again last week as a matter of fact. I still enjoyed it as much as I did the first time I watched it.
There's no better testament to a film standing the test of time than it being entertaining and enjoyable over 40 years after it's release.
slasherpunk18
Two words:Anthony Perkins.
SlipknoT
When I say it dosent stand the test of time, I'm saying it dosent have the same effect it did back in the 60's. But it's still a decent film.
slasherpunk18
I suppose it doesn't have the same effect today.Great horror though.I just wish I hadn't known that Norman was the killer before I watched it.Kinda took away the effect.Okay, let's go to another classic. The Evil Dead.I've watched it 20 times and I can't get sick of it.
Evil Dead
Evil Dead is pure/true horror. It's campy at times.......it lacks in plot and acting.....but still a good piece of pure horror. I love it.
slasherpunk18
Gotta love Ash.I always loved the series for it's hokyness(don't think i spelled that right),great cinema.
slasherpunk18
BTW Evil Dead, great picture of Ash.
SlipknoT
ditto.
theres an Evil Dead marathon on TV coming up
ragesRemorse
Yeah i couldnt pick a single movie to be the BEST horror movie. That is damn difficult. there are to many branches in the horror realm. the best i could do is give a facorite, and even then it is difficult. I suppose Hellraiser, and suspiria are probably some of my favorite stories at the momment. Hellraiser is one of the most original horror fllicks out there. Suspiria is just an all around solid movie. I dont know i cant really think right now, insomnia has me by the balls.
slasherpunk18
what channel?
SlipknoT
The Monster Channel. You dont get it.
slasherpunk18
That sucks. It's okay though because, come to think of it.I have all 3 on tape.I had to tape AOD on sci-fi though so the good parts are cut out.
SlipknoT
Yea, I own the trilogy on DVD so, theres really no point
Cinemaddiction
"Psycho" was boring as hell, and didn't keep me "interested" in the least. How anyone can say it stands the test of time baffles me, personally. Easily Hitchcock's most overrated film.
Lord_Andres
you guys should check out a movie called Homicidal by William Castle, just love that movie
BackFire
Psycho is one of the most enthralling and interesting films of the 60's, and today. I've seen it numerous times and still find it chilling. It's recognized as greatness for a reason, because for it's time it was extremely unique unpredictable. The music, of course, is gold.
Lord_Andres
thats a fact BF
slasherpunk18
Oh my god,how could I forget to talk about the music?!In my opinion, the scariest music in the horror genre.
slasherpunk18
Oh my god!How could I forget to mention the music?!That has to be the scariest music in the horror genre!BTW Lord Andres, haven't heard of that movie "Homicidal",what's it about?
slasherpunk18
Sorry about the double post,my computer's kinda f****d.
Mr Zero
Hitch knew how to throw a scare thats for sure.
My only problem with Psycho was i got such a boner for Perkins dressed as his mother I forgot to be scared.
slasherpunk18
They should never have remade it.Without Perkins it just isn't the same.
SlipknoT
ugh, the remake was terribal
slasherpunk18
No respect...
Poor Anthony Perkins must be rolling in his grave.
slasherpunk18
Okay then, how about a new topic?
Let's see......
How about Day of the Dead?Feel free to discuss a different one if you like.
Cinemaddiction
Savini's best work, some of the most ingenius character development ever (Bub), almost gave "Scarface" a run for it's money with the "F" bombs, and it's a sorely underrated flick.
slasherpunk18
I agree with everything. In my opinion it is the best zombie movie.
SlipknoT
I dont see why it is considered the worst of the Dead series.
Cinemaddiction
It is? Well, social commentary aside, "Dawn of the Dead" (1978) isn't that great of a stand alone zombie movie, IMO.
ragesRemorse
Dawn of the Dead is a classicly great stand alone Zombie film, Day of the dead just gives it cult appeal.
dean7879
day of the dead is the weakest film compared to night and dawn but it is still excellent
slasherpunk18
I'm sure lots of people will go against me for saying this ,but,I kinda thought that the original Dawn of the Dead sucked.I thought that the first half was good, but I lost interest near the end.
Cinemaddiction
How so?
"Dawn of the Dead" had rather uninteresting special effects, campy, out of place music, horrible "zombie" applique, and there wasn't any sense of urgency throughout the movie. I'd imagine that would be the the major draw for average movie goers, and it wasn't there. It wasn't even impressive for 1978. I think people like the movie, for the most part, because it's everyone's dream to be holed up in a mall where you can have anything you want.
Take away the mall, make it a house, it's the same movie as "Night".
"Day of the Dead" is a gorehound's paradise. It was also smarter in a few instances.
slasherpunk18
I agree completely.Well put.
SlipknoT
The Zombies, did look stupid in Dawn.
slasherpunk18
It wasn't so much the zombies that got me as the story.
SlipknoT
I didnt like how the zombies were blue. And how the blood was that pinkish red. But other than those little things I like the movie.
slasherpunk18
Day of the Dead had great make-up effects.BTW,a couple weeks ago,I watched Day of the Dead and they cut out everything that made the movie great.I was so pissed.
SlipknoT
Where did you watch it?
Cinemaddiction
Sounds like what they did on "Sci Fi Channel". It was basically a 1 hour movie, with an extra 1 hour of commercials.
Show Rhodes with the frame of zombie hands, then cut straight to Bub saluting.
What busllhit. Don't even bother showing the damn thing!
SlipknoT
So they pretty much edited it to death?
Cinemaddiction
Like you wouldn't believe. That's why I don't watch movies on television. Especially with quotes like this, being a favorite, at a pivotal moment of the movie..
"I'm running this monkey farm now, Frankenstein, and I wanna know..what the heck you're doing with my time?!"
ragesRemorse
I remember the last movie i watched on basic Cable was Beverly hills cop. I was about 14 i think. I mean replacing the word f.uck with a voice over saying "not cool" just brought reality crashing down all around me. For kicks i treid watching die hard on Cable, and that, well it is the funniest movie you can watch after USA got done editing and dubbing words over yippie kye ay mother hater.

SlipknoT
I have Voom TV and they dont edit anything. Dead Alive was on the other day and it was completely un-edited.
slasherpunk18
How sad yet how hilarious.
slasherpunk18
I was at my house.About 2 in the mourning.Insominias a *****.
slasherpunk18
Okay, how bout a new movie? How about The Shining?
It's one of my favs.
