This is your absolute as of today top ten list of all time comic book characters. There can be no ties either. I am just curious as to see various posters top ten lists as of today. I knock comic book fans can be fickle so outside a few it will shift as the seasons change.

Lol. Technically it doesn't apply. It's the same character in both cases, with the same memories, abilities, etc.

The personalities change, though, so your question is a valid one. We just have to take the spirit of the question instead of the letter of it. I'd go with Jeroen and Tennant, respectively.

But part of what I love about the characters is that the process of reinvention is built-in without the need for retcons, reboots, or fans yelling at changes in direction or actor. So it's the character concept as much as the individuals that I like, which makes the "which one" question somewhat unnecessary. I think I'd like either one less if they stayed the same, even in my favorite incarnation.

This thread has actually been eye-opening to me, because it's showing me how I compartmentalize certain comics in my head. Star Wars is in its own compartment, all the comics that are among my favorite and count as literary "art" are separate (V for Vendetta, Sandman, Planetary, etc.) so when I thought of my list I didn't include anything from them.

Somehow Doctor Who is in with mainstream comics, which doesn't seem to fit. But meh, it can't all make sense.

But really, at least half of mine would remain comic characters. That is, if you can consider my list entirely due to comics as it is...things like Doctor Who and the Tick are there because of the TV series more so than the comics.

Realistically, I know none of them are. The only way this stuff could come about in our universe is if we interacted with something that could warp our reality to have different properties and physical rules. That may or may not be possible (it would probably need to involve interaction with another dimension), but certainly hasn't happened yet.

I'll put this as nicely as I can. I have no problem closing and banning all threads which aren't vs threads. So you all have 2 choices: Stop spamming non-versus threads with petty arguments or follow the thread topics. And FYI, this includes the Character Ownage thread. Depends on the type of stories you like. He's more of the Spiderman of Milestone comics. If you like that type of character, go for it.

So I got bored at work (seriously) and broke down the responses so far based on number of selection in the top 10 and average position (from those who actually ordered them).

There were a couple people I didn't include because they have 20 lists and I didn't know what to do with them. I considered everyone's list as a ranked ordering unless otherwise stated in the post, for simplicity sake. To eliminate some variables, I grouped all the Flashes together as most people just said "Flash". Some other characters I divided if I felt they were different enough. I also may have duplicated a few names, so sue me.

A few highlights first:
There were 170 different characters listed
108 of those were unique to a single person's list
Avg. Rank only includes those on lists that were ranked. "In no particular order" did not get factored in to Avg. Rank.

I've listed here all the characters that made it onto at least two lists.
Among the Surprises/Notables:
-Wonder Woman made only 1 list
-Captain Mar-vell made 1 list
-Nova made 1 list
-Swamp Thing made 1 list
-Dr. Strange made only 2 lists
-Aquaman (3) made as many lists as Wolverine (3)

That's actually pretty cool. I'd be pretty curious to see how our character preferences compare to those of the average comic reader, or really any large population size.

Kinda makes me want to go back and order my list for accuracy's sake.... meh.
